The Part 27

"I brought you coffee." Khloe said as she handed me the still-steaming glass.

"Thank you" said Kendall, receiving a glass. According to his feelings, there was something else on the woman's mind.

Khloe slipped a loose pinch of curls behind her ear. "Doctor Jenner, I was wondering if you needed someone to, you know, help deal with patients and other things. Well, some kind of secretary."

"I haven't had many patients."

"I know, I'm not very qualified, but I want to work hard."

Kendall was touched by the woman's honesty. He realizes that if one or two things go differently in his life, his fate could end up like Khloe's. "I like that idea" Kendal said, "Only I don't know what the situation is right now." His mind drifted to a two-year employment contract he found among the forms David gave him yesterday, a subtle way. "I haven't signed an agreement with the Booker family, so I can't even pay you."

"What's wrong" said Khloe quickly. "I just want a chance to prove myself until the real job opportunity comes along. Among us, I'm a little bored."

Kendall hesitates, not wanting to make Khloe's hopes shattered as she leaves Happiness. On the other hand, Khloe has a point, there's not much to do until the city is better laid out. "I agree, but let's just go day by day."

Khloe smiled broadly. "good. Thank ye. So, what can I do?"

Kendall finds the key to the practice room in the lockbox and hands it to Khloe. "The new patient form is on the map in the blue archive box on the bookshelf. Take one for Andy and have him fill up at the top."

"okay." Khloe runs ahead, leaving Kendall smiling at her spirit. Kendall passes another woman in the Corridor, Gigi Hadid, the recruiter David calls. "Gigi, did the group from Atlanta come home last night?"

"No, yet" Gigi replied with a small laugh. "Hailey called and told me they'd be back today. He's renting a delivery truck to bring everything here."

Kendall pursed her lips, wondering if the Booker brothers had understood what they had agreed to when they sent Hailey out shopping.

"I know you're working with the Booker family to recruit professionals to come to Happiness. I just wanted to let you know that I've asked my ex-boss to spread the need for medical personnel."

"It's good to hear it" Gigi said. "thank you. I've got my own job. Imagine trying to convince a lawyer to come here." The woman suddenly looked bad. "Sorry, Doctor Jenner. I didn't mean to..."

"Don't worry" Kendall cut, ignoring the insinuations about her former fiance. "Let's talk again."

Gigi nodded and continued her steps.

Kendall continued downstairs, trying to forget the comment. Right, his former fiancee who was a lawyer would definitely not be willing to be in a place like this.

He frowned. Is it good.. or bad?

As she arrives in front of the temporary practice room, Khloe has found a form and clipboard and is waiting near Andy, who seems delighted at the woman's attention.

He or she goes inside, swallows pills to treat allergies that don't cause drowsiness, wears a lab coat, hooks a stethoscope around the neck, and washes hands. He never expected people to fall ill, but he wished Mr. case. The grammer, if not challenging, is at least interesting.

Apparently not.

Kendall suppressed the disappointment a few minutes later when Andy explained her nail infection then removed her shoes and socks. Kendall's eyes narrowed. "What is that..meat jerky?"

Andy grinned. "yeah. Kristofer told me to tie a slice of raw jerky around my thumb to ease the infection. And quite potent, see the part of the jerky that's going green?"

Kendall swallowed with great difficulty. "That's it." He put on gloves, then peeled off those disgusting slices of meat and threw them away. Andy's toes looked greasy and red. Kendall cleaned the thumb carefully, then slipped a small piece of bandage to remove the edge of the inflamed nail skin and gave the man a bottle of antibiotic ointment.

"Do I have to take another slice of jerky from the canteen?" ask Andy while wearing socks.

Kendall rolled her eyeballs. "I think you better stop the treatment with jerky."

"Alright" said Andy, but he seemed hesitant. Why did Kendall suddenly get the feeling that Andy would still do it, then give praise to Kristofer after the infection healed?

Kendall escorted the patient out and said goodbye, surprised to see five other men fill the chairs in the hallway. Khloe pacing around, taking care of them. The woman had already placed a pot of coffee and a folding table for herself near there. He handed over the new patient form to Kendall. "Next Fai Kadra."

Kendall smiled, feeling alive again because she was busy and happy because the men accepted the idea of going to the doctor "woman".

Not that their illness is serious, Kendall thought as the morning continued to rise. Achy back muscles, bad breath, accumulated earwax, canker sores and...

"Dandruff?" kendall asked, looking at the pouty-haired man sitting before her. "You worried about dandruff?"

The man was agitated. "I saw a little bit of white flakes while combing my hair."

Kendall did a quick check on the man's scalp, then gave him a bottle of lotion.

"What's this?" ask the man.

"Sunscreen lotion. You don't dandruff, your scalp peels from sunburn. Maybe you should wear a hat."

"alright. Thank you very much, Doc." And the man continued to thank her while retreating into the hallway. "You're the best doctor I've ever seen."
