New Happiness, Begins

New Happiness, Begins
The Part 41

Harry pursed his lips. "I don't remember you ever introducing women to Mom."

"I think Mom's gonna want to meet because Kendall found her ring, that's all."

"so yeah. If I hadn't known you more deeply, I would have thought you were in love with this woman."

David denies, but decides that the best are indifferent. "But you know me, right?"

"You're sure you didn't hit your head when you fell out of the tower? You got weak first to the doctor and now you're taking care of the deer."

"The condition of the fawn is improving" said David, ignoring the talk about Kendall. "He could stand up and walk around with a cast. I've had some people make cages for him."

Harry looked furious. "Good, because they have no other job!" He got up and pointed in anger. "You won't be working during the summer on your feet like that, so I'm alone with the workers and the women!"

"Wait a minute. I've been watching the clinic even though one of my legs was injured and monitoring the media room installation."

"Working things that bring no income!" blow Harry. "Our tatal production is not too late because workers are often plagued by silly things, such as pretending to be sick to see a doctor, or work on clinics whose personnel we don't have or make stables for fawns!"

David recalled their previous conversation as Harry expressed his concern about the deadline for achieving their goals. The three-year calendar that covered the office wall with a large circle on the deadline served as a faithful reminder and Harry felt depressed.

David raised his hand, asking Harry to stop. "I know it all seems messy right now, but it's definitely going to work out. The workers and the women have started to have better relationships..."

Harry grunting.

"...rather than before" continued David. "And the food in the cafeteria was also gone..."

Harry snorted again.

"...partially," continued David. "And the communicator's device is being worked on." He grimaced, waiting for Harry to react.

Harry closed his lips. "I don't think it's too bad."

"Plants in the garden are starting to grow" David added. "And the clinic is ready to open in the near future. We're progressing rapidly, Harry. Just look at it later, we can definitely meet the deadline."

Harry rubbed his face with his hands, then grinned. "Go back from Atlanta with a certificate from a specialist stating as soon as you can get back to work."

David grimacing. "I'm more worried about Mom's comments when I see these casts."

Harry walked around the table and patted David on the back. "My guess is, Mom would be too busy judging Doctor Jenner so as not to notice your cast. Is Kendall ready?"

"Who is what?"

"Faced with the interrogation method of the little and sweet old mistress of Luisa Booker's style. CIA should have asked for tips from him."

"We won't be there long" David assured Harry. "There's a lot of work to do in Atlanta."

"True," said Harry sourly. "Be careful."

David shook his hand. "I understand Atlanta."

"I mean our doctor." Harry looked at his brother. "Doctor Jenner isn't one of your goofy bar girls. While trying to convince her to stay, you don't do anything that'll make things worse."

David rubbed his back sternum that suddenly felt pain. "Not going to."

"Are you leaving Happiness?" ask Hailey.

Kendall is shocked and looks up from her place to check out the fat and carefree Oscar. "Why are you asking like that?"

Hailey shrugged her shoulders. "You keep a great distance from other women. Like you don't want to live here."

Kendall looked at her hairy patient again. "Honestly, I thought about it. My commitment to this goal is not as great as you and the other women."

"They'll feel lost."

"Don't worry, my ex-boss seems to have found a replacement doctor."

"I mean, they're gonna lose you, Kendall."

"They're all amazed by you and want to be friends with you. But I don't think it's gonna happen."

Kendall continued the examination, her heart pounding. Hailey's words made her want to defend herself, as if she had let everyone down. And that's why he didn't try to get to know those women in the first place.

"If you don't mind, please don't tell anyone about my planned departure" he murmured, attaching a stethoscope to Oscar's chest.

"OKAY. You're going back to Denville?"

"I haven't decided yet."

"What about David?"

Kendall froze. "What's wrong with her?"

"I heard you two are going to Atlanta tomorrow."

Is there a jealous tone in Hailey's voice? Kendall removed the stethoscope from her ear and looked up, she had never been envied by another woman. Although it may be more because he is going to the city, not because he is going to spend time with David.

"True," said Kendall, keeping her tone calm. "It's an appointment with a specialist to examine the limb and I'm going to select the equipment for the clinic."

"If you like David, that's okay."

Kendall is confused about choosing the word. "I don't like David..."

"He likes you too."

Kendall laughed a little. "No. You're wrong."

Hailey twirled the eyeballs. "Girl, when we had a picnic the other day, I gave her a sign that even the blind could understand. But his mind drifted far away.I think he thought of you here."

"Most likely think of the deer," Kendall said sourly. He stroked Oscar's head before handing it to Hailey. "He looks healthy, but he still needs to be watched. If he eats grass again, it probably means his stomach is still bad."

"Thank you." Hailey shifted to hold Oscar. "As for advice, don't let that ex-partner scare you into falling in love again."

Kendall felt swallowed and hugged the body. "Talk is easier."

"I know what it's like" Hailey said in a sympathetic tone.

"You?" kendall asked, observing the face and body of the beautiful woman. "I can't imagine you. I mean. you..." Kendall searched for a word while Hailey smiled.

"I've been dumped and betrayed more often than you can imagine" she continued. "I've been engaged five times and have never been to a woman at all. No one is immune from heartbreak."

Kendall feels stupid for thinking beautiful women have fewer problems than most women. "I think you're right." He tucked a pinch of hair behind his ear. "It's just that some of us don't have much of a chance to attract the opposite sex."

Hailey shakes her head. "Kendall, your body shape is good, you just have to stand out."

Kendall's cheeks are flushed. "I'm not good at dressing up and styling my hair."

Hailey reached out and touched Kendall's chin. "Slight highlights and maybe bangs will accentuate your eyes..."

Kendall touched her hair in shame. "Of course."

"The right time to change looks is after a breakup" Hailey said, gesturing toward Kendall's pants. "You got something cooler to wear on your trip tomorrow?"

Kendall rubbed the thick cloth that had become her work clothes. "Not really."

"I'm sure some of us must have something. You have to look really alluring when you go to Atlanta to buy supplies."

Hailey's eyes glittered and inevitably Kendall laughed. He was swept with a feeling of gratitude to the woman who had made him jealous.

"So how do you want to change your appearance?"

Old habits ambush Kendall. He does not want to trouble people and is afraid to look silly. After all, he wasn't sure he could maintain that new appearance. Her hair and makeup have never changed since she was a teenager.

Since adolescence. Kendall let that consciousness settle. God, he's been stuck in that habit for too long. He sighed and raised his hands in a surrender style. "Okay, there's nothing to lose."
