New Happiness, Begins

New Happiness, Begins
The Part 34

"What do you think?" david asked with a worried face.

Kendall removed the stethoscope from the ear. "I don't think I can help this animal."

"Just do what you can. I don't want to have to kill him."

David pleaded with those sharp hazel eyes and Kendall could not resist. He nodded, then held his head to force himself to focus. Think about what steps he should take first.

The deer needs to be sedated... Kendall can do that. The power required to sedate an animal may be greater than it is for a human, but he may have to be able to make sure the deer does not soar during the time he needs to examine it more closely. He walked to the locked cupboard, pulled out the bottle and syringe, and took a dose.

"Hold to be quiet" he ordered, then injected the anesthetic into the unscathed deer's waist muscles.

"I can feel the muscles relax" David said as the deer's eyes began to narrow.

Kendall pointed at the closet. "Take me some gauze. I need to know where the blood came from."

He took an antiseptic and began to cleanse the blood from the deer's fur. Fortunately the tears and blisters were small. But he couldn't say the same about a broken leg. He turned on a small X-ray machine and was surprised at how small the animal's limb bones were. It seemed too fragile to support much less to withstand the shocks of running and jumping.

"You can fix the bone?" david asked, looking over Kendall's shoulder at the picture on the screen.

Kendall shrugged her shoulders slowly. "Eitherway. I can try, but it means that this deer has to be locked up while its limbs are in recovery and it has to be bribed. But there's still a chance he won't survive, especially if there's an infection."

"I'll take care of it" said David.

"You yourself still can't move freely."

"Just do your job, Kendall."

That was the first time David called me by my first name, Kendall realized. The unplanned familiarity was unsettling, as was the man's belief that he could save the deer. And the way David looked at him made him believe.

The tedious work, fixing the location of the small bones and wrapping them with weights to hold them, while the cast glass fibers are melted to be smeared outside. Despite being in the cast, David was able to become an assistant. He follows Kendall's direction and they can work well together. Despite the focus of the task before them, Kendall continues to be aware of the man's presence nearby, every touch of their hands and shoulders.

Consciousness infiltrated Kendall's heart. Does he tell himself about his unwillingness for such a relationship so as not to have to face the fact that he does not have the ability to establish such a relationship?

Is her ex-fiance aware of that aspect of her personality? Is that why he turned to another woman?

Kendall's hand continued to work even though she felt a gaping gap in her heart. Being aware of yourself like that is really scary.

"Good look." David said as he examined the small cast that covered most of the deer's limbs. He looked up, but his smile disappeared. "You okay?"

Kendall nodded, then realized that her cheeks were wet. Shamefully, he threw away his face, his brain spinning. What would David think if he saw it like that? He wanders into the sink to remove gloves and wash his hands more vigorously than he should.

He felt as David approached him from behind, then the man's breath was on his neck. "Hey..talk."

Kendall looked up and her eyes met David's eyes in the mirror. He could not interpret all the emotions that hit the chest, let alone express it with words. He rubbed his cheeks and tried to smile. "Sorry, this is not my habit at all. For some reason, today there are many things."

"There's no need to apologize" David said, the man's low voice killing him.

Before Kendall realized what was happening, David had already turned his body. Within such a close distance, desire overpowered Kendall's body, making her breath flinch.

David leaned against one crutch and used the other to wipe the tears from Kendall's cheek. "I know you came here to forget the man who betrayed you."

Kendall. So the news spread.

"And I know Happiness is not what you expect," continued David, his hazel eyes fixed on Kendall's. "But you're needed here."

Those words alone had already blocked Kendall's throat. Their closeness causes an electric current, David's large body makes Kendall feel scared and safe. David squeezed the body together, as if there was a magnetic field between them. Kendall's lips open to breathe more air into her lungs with trembling. David would not let her turn her face. Her gaze held Kendall's eyes, challenging her. The man placed his hand on Kendall's nape and brought their lips closer very slowly until Kendall thought she would never meet.

But David's lips finally touched her. He kissed Kendall's lips completely and very gently, making Kendall's eyes glaze over again. The pagutan deepens as David's tongue slips to explore Kendall's mouth, awakening a buried passion. Kendall's chest went up and down in response. As he approached, the man groaned in his mouth and put his hand down to his back, pulling Kendall closer awkwardly, Kendall raised her hand to David's chest, and, tracing the hard muscle behind his thin sweatshirt.
