New Happiness, Begins

New Happiness, Begins
The Part 60

When David got dressed and went downstairs, Kendall was in the car.

Daniel.

David stood in front of the dormitory, leaning on the two crutches, feeling his heart torn apart. Kendall was right, she had been trying to manipulate. David simply did not plan to fall in love in the process. Kendall glanced at him one last time, then sat in the front seat and closed the door. The car drove, carrying Kendall in it.

Stay away from Happiness.

David swallowed the saliva with great difficulty. His chest was as if he was being squeezed by a heavy burden. Suddenly he felt a familiar sting in the ear. "Oh." He looked up and saw Harry standing there. "Why did you punch me in the ear?"

Harry nodded towards the car that was moving away. "You're just gonna let him go?"

"Harry, there's something you need to explain."

"There's a doctor from the UK at the clinic. What should I explain?"

David looked at Harry sharply. "How could this newspaper advertisement be spread in the same city as where Cara Delevigne now lives in Denville?"

Harry's expression confirmed that it was no coincidence. And suddenly David realized Harry's feelings since the women had come. Apparently Harry was hoping to persuade the woman back. After a long time, the brother was still expecting his first love. David begins to wonder if Harry already knows where Cara lives, why he didn't just go there so they could be together after completing his service bond with the Air Force. Then David realized. Harry has put his commitment to rebuilding happiness above his own. His life is here now. If he and Cara do have a future to be together, it's the woman who has to come back.

"Like I said," Harry muttered, gazing at the dark-colored car that was sliding down the long paved road they had built with their own hands, "are you going to let it go?" As he did to Cara.

But David nodded. "The situation is different."

Harry was doubtful. "Times?"

Frustration and self-loathing overflowed in David's chest. He could not take his eyes off the car that was shrinking and kept getting smaller. But he felt powerless stopping Kendall. He needed to be alone with this unbearable pain.

Tower.

David glanced at the cast, then decided that he could climb. The pain may actually be beneficial. He could see Kendall go miles. Without telling Harry, David trudged towards the ATV. Harry smiled, as if thinking David was going after the car, but then frowned as David went in the opposite direction.

David splits a winding, hilly path, continues to increase speed and test the resilience of ATVs in order to reach the tower in a few minutes. Climbing the stairs was more challenging, but he managed to raise the body without overburdening the injured leg. He stopped once and looked down, aware of how dangerous it would be if he fell again. Upon reaching the courtyard of the tower, he advanced to the front side carefully, which was very difficult without the help of crutches.

As the exit from Happiness meandered before reaching the straight path towards the border road between countries, the black car was still clearly visible from the tower on this sunny, hot morning. David could even see two people sitting in it. He wondered what kind of conversation was going on, if Daniel and Kendall had made up.

He punches the fence, gets angry at himself for not chasing Kendall and tells her how much he loves her. If the cheating man can say love even if it's not true, then why can't he muster up the courage to tell Kendall about the true feelings that are stirring her chest?

Dangan full of determination, David pulled out a phone to call Kendall, then remember Kendall's phone did not get a signal in this area. Exasperated, he returned the phone behind the belt. Not knowing what else to do, he waved. Cars moving away and towards Happiness could see the tower at least from sixteen kilometers away. But can Kendall see it... Did he even look there?

David's brain drifted into the storm sirens mounted on the tower. David opened the iron box where the siren was stored, though he knew in his heart he would never sound a false alarm.

But wedged inside the box next to the siren funnel was an old can filled with red spray paint. David smiled. Whynot?

Harry would have hung it for soiling the tower's clean white surface, but David didn't care.

His prayer so that the paint could still be used was answered and he was happy because it turned out to be almost full. He shuffled the can violently and quickly sprayed the word "I", then drew a big heart, and wrote the word "Kendall" in high letters. Then he turned around and saw the car growing smaller while holding his breath.

"Please," he whispered, hoping the brake lights would turn on, a sign that Kendall saw the message, that the woman would turn around and come back to him. "Please."

But the car kept on going and disappeared on the horizon.

...----------------...

David sagged on the tower fence and exhaled loudly. His brain spun quickly looking for another option. He's not gonna take Kendall off. He'll fix the woman's car, then return it to Denville. He will tell her how much he loves the doctor and make her believe...

Then the harsh reality hit him. He was in the same situation as Harry... His life is here, in Happiness. And maybe he messed up this place because of Kendall.

He jerked his head back and yelled in frustration, then heard his choking sound bounce off the walls of the valley and back at him.

With a completely lackluster body, David began to turn around, but something on the horizon was caught by his eyes. Movement..is too small for a car.maybe an animal...

David grabs the always-linked binoculars on the belt and lifts them to the face. He adjusted his focus and saw the moving figure growing clearer.

Walk back with suitcase.

Walk back to him.

David's heart was blossoming. He cheered and waved both hands. "Kendall! Kendall!"

Kendall raised her free hand and replied.

Eager to pick up the woman with an ATV, David returned to the stairs and began to descend. Adrenaline overwhelms the body and she ceaselessly smiles, but forces herself to slow down the movement. He did not want to fall and break his neck. Notnot now.

It's almost there.

He was about five meters from the ground when his cast was stuck and his leg slipped. The feeling of deja vu enveloped him as he plunged through the air.

The landing on his back shook David's body and spouted air from his lungs. He lay there for a few seconds and waited for the pain to subside, only then did he dare to breathe.

While doing so, he breathed in enough air to be thankful that he was not dead. Then he moved carefully. To his relief, his ankle did not seem to deteriorate due to the fall earlier.

But, his left arm was not that lucky.

David grimaces, then laughs as he pulls the phone out of his belt and presses Harry's number.

"What's up now?" ask Harry.

"How do you know something's wrong?" ask David.

"Because the one who called was you."

But even his grumpy brother couldn't ruin David's happiness that day. "I fell again from the tower." David kept the phone away from the ear until Harry finished spilling the swearing.

"Has the other leg broken?"

"No. just the arm. But I'm gonna need a doctor."

Harry nodded. "I'll bring the English doctor."

"How about you take Kendall? He's on his way to Happiness, walking back here."

Harry nodded for a few seconds, then groaned. "Alright, this time you escaped. But this is the last one. We'll be there soon."

David disconnected the phone and smiled. That's Harry's best way of saying he's happy for him.

David pushed the body to rise with one arm that was not injured and leaned against the rock. A few minutes later, he heard an ATV climbing the hill and saw Harry driving and piggybacking Kendall behind him. David's heart was racing at the sight of the woman. After they stopped, Harry busied himself with the ATV to give them some privacy.

Kendall got down and rushed over to David. Her pretty face wrinkled anxiously as she squatted. "It's a bit overkill, right? I was on my way home."

"I have to make sure you stay long enough" David joked. Then he pulled Kendall's face close to his face and looked at the woman's brown eyes.

"I love you, Kendall."

Kendall smiled. "I know."

"Because that's why you came back?"

Kendall shakes. "I'm back because I love you too."

David catches Kendall's soft lips with a sweet deep kiss, promising things to come....

...THE ENDS...
