New Happiness, Begins

New Happiness, Begins
The Part 23

While he was silent, a loud whistle sounded.

"Oh I'm a bird watcher" said Dr. Amanda. "Burung is that what I just heard?"

Kendall was relieved that the topic of conversation had changed, then walked around the court to return to the stairs and glanced down while rubbing her eyes. Below, David Booker bent over while whistling and dropped something from a paper bag onto the bird food stand. To Kendall's amazement, a pair of brightly coloured Bluebirds appeared and swooped down to grab onto the food stand, not caring for David who was close enough to stick out his hand and touch them. Kendall was amazed. The man could actually lure the birds out of the trees.

"Kendall, are you still there?"

Kendall turned her attention back to the phone conversation. "Yeah, still. I'm not an expert, but it looks like a bluebird?"

"Oh! They're the prettiest creatures."

Kendall observed David's large muscular body and the excitement on his handsome face as he watched the birds dance around the feeding grounds. "Yeah, indeed," he murmured. Unexpectedly, Kendall was excited, but also felt something akin to fear rush into her heart. He can't do this anymore...

"Kendall, are you still there?"

"I'm done, Doctor Amanda. I'll call you back as soon as I can."

"OKAY. Take care of yourself, baby."

Kendall disconnects the phone, then grips the fence to control emotions. He felt so unlovable and so lonely. If only he could stay in this tower, far from the hassle of the people down there...

"Hey!"

Kendall looked down and saw David looking up at her. "You okay up there?"

Kendall nodded and waved, then sighed deeply and started down the stairs. He doesn't have to be in this place much longer. He can get through all this.

By the time Kendall got to the last rung, David was ready to help her get off. The man's touch made him react. Kendall walked away as quickly as possible with a reddened face. Can the man see how much influence his touch has? Sure do. Men like them must enjoy it, feel good, make a woman mediocre like herself pounding.

"You managed to call?" ask David.

"Yeah."

"And is everything okay?"

Instead of answering, Kendall gestured to the bird feeder. "So I saw you calling a bluebird, you could talk to an animal, Mr. Booker?"

Kendall has a confused face. "Tool?"

"We used the animal in a compost container behind the canteen and caterpillars a favorite food of birds."

Kendall follows David back to the ATV and wears a helmet. "What other wild animals are here?"

"As usual raccoons, deer, sometimes bears."

Kendall's riveted. "Bears?"

"Don't worry. The bears are more afraid of you than you are of them."

Kendall smiled half-heartedly. "I doubt." One more reason to get out of here. "Don't mean to divert the conversation, but is there any word on my car?"

David clucked sadly as he sat at the ATV and put down the crutches. "Sorry, no."

Kendall put on the helmet hook. "Where are we going?"

David smiled broadly. "To my favorite place on the mountain."

Kendall is reluctant, but David's excitement draws her in. He climbed up behind the man and tried to keep their bodies apart. But as soon as the ATV walked forward, it immediately jerked to the close of David's body. Kendall was too tired to fight, so she closed her eyes and pretended that David enjoyed it as much as he did.

...----------------...

David directs the ATV halfway down the mountain, then turns right and circles the mountain to an area he is very familiar with. He found a paved road that was already broken and full of reeds. Unexplainably feeling happy as Kendall's hand tightened the embrace at the waist. They passed through mounds of rubble along the way, the remains of the ruins of houses.

He stopped the ATV next to a plot of land that had been cleared. Even while waiting for Kendall to come down, he cursed because he had invited the woman here. I was just trying to find a way to fill Kendall's time and delay her departure, she said. I wish he would feel attached to Happiness, but I can take him to many other places in Happiness. Why did I choose this place?

Because David felt sorry for the woman after knowing that Kendall came here for running away from an unfaithful fiancee. Kendall is easily offended and looks like a confused person. Apparently he's heartbroken. Is he going back to Denville because the ex asked him to come home? Might as well.

David's hand gripped the ATV tighter. He did not know the man who had been engaged to Kendall, but already felt dislike for him. Playing around before deciding to live a quiet life is very different from cheating after making a commitment. In the eyes of David, Kendall is the type of woman who takes everything seriously, including relationships with men. Maybe he has given all his love and is now confused. For some reason, David felt obliged to prevent the woman from returning to the man who had treated her arbitrarily. Moreover, he wanted to show him that something could survive.
