New Happiness, Begins

New Happiness, Begins
Part 17's

"So when are you back?" ask How

"As soon as my car is repaired. Believe me no, my car broke down just as I was trying to escape?"

"Difficult to believe" said Cara suspicious

"But David said he'd have people check. So if the damage is light, I can go home today. Tomorrow at the latest."

"David?" confused Way. "Oh, you're shaved?"

Kendall laughs. "yeah. He was waiting for me downstairs, so I guess I shouldn't linger. Everything's okay, right, in Denville?"

"Very good," said Cara cheerfully. "At least you're planning a trip at the right time."

Kendall frowned. "You mean how?"

"Oh, I thought you knew."

"Know what?"

"Sorry I have to deliver, but there's an engagement announcement in the paper today. Your ex-fiancee and her boyfriend are getting married."

It was as if his stomach had been kicked. Kendall tightens the grip of the phone. "He... engaged?" Kendall's head is pening. He gripped the tower fence so that his body did not fall.

"Kendall, are you okay?"

Kendall wet her lips, trying to make a sound. "yeah. I'm doing fine. It's just I'm not. I mean, it's so fast..."

"Maybe that son of a bitch gave him the ring you gave him back."

"Throw..."

"What?"

"I actually threw the ring at him."

Laughing way. "That's my new friend."

Kendall laughed bitterly. "Well I can really start a fight with them."

"It can happen to anyone. Don't blame yourself. Maybe you should stay there a few days before you go back, to clear your head."

"Hey!"

Kendall's head turned to hear the sound. David.

"You okay up there?"

"First already. Thank you for your advice, Cara." Kendall said to a mobile phone

"Either. Careful."

Kendall disconnects the phone, then goes back around the court to the stairs and looks down.

David waved to him.

"yeah. I'll be there in a few minutes." Kendall

"Let's relax" David replied "Below I'm having fun with insects." David beat the air like a windmill until he almost fell from the crutches.

Kendall smiled and her heart improved a little. Then he reminded himself that David Booker was just trying to make up for words about him yesterday.

About his sad love story, which is actually true, even more than the man knew.

Kendall turned around and quickly checked her e-mail account. The only important message from her former boss, Doctor Amanda, is conveying the magnitude of their loss of her at the practice and reminding them that their door is always open if Kendall wants to come back. Glad to know too. Kendall didn't reply, just saved the e-mail.

He began to walk up the stairs, then remembered the clothes left behind and took them back. Afraid that his movements would be hindered if he carried it with his hands, he decided to put it on and roll up his arms, then began to descend.

The journey down was faster, and suddenly the steps of the tower were up. Kendall's plan was to jump to the ground, but suddenly a sturdy arm wrapped around her waist and lowered her to the ground. He tried to get away from David Booker as quickly as possible, but the friction of their entire body was inevitable.

"Hey, that's my shirt" exclaimed David

"I think so, too," said Kendall while trying to release it from the body.

"Save it. You fit it" said David, shaking his hand.

"Too big for me."

"Looks are interesting" David said, reaching out to pick up a small flower from between Kendall's hair. "At the wind, huh?"

"Yeah" said Kendall, her blood rippling at David's touch. "What flower is it?"

"Laurel mountain," David answered while returning it to Kendall. The flower looked like a small umbrella in Kendall's palm. "Many grow in these mountains."

David nodded. "Superficial, right?" Did you get the signal above?"

"yeah. I managed to call and check the messages."

"All is well?"

Kendall looked up, whether the expression on her face was clearly emotional. "Sure," Kendall lied.

David's eyes narrowed slightly, but he did not ask. "Ready to go home?"

"yeah. I want to talk to the mechanic about my car."

"All right, come on." David leads the way back to the ATV.

"You're very good at using crutches." Comments on Kendall

"This wasn't my first experience." David laughed with a laugh.

Kendall clenched her lips, thinking whether to ask further. He won't stay here long to care about David's life.

"I saw the cannon's shredded scars while examining your limbs."

David did not reply and it was difficult to interpret his expression.

"What force did you serve in?" Kendall

"Army of Land."

"Iraq?"

"Afghanistan."

"I'm sorry to hear that" Kendall murmured

"I didn't. I'm proud to have been there."

"I'm sure so," Kendall said. "I mean, I'm sorry for what you've been through."

"Bad one." David consented. "But not as bad as the people who live there have to face. Every day I am thankful for living in this country."

"yeah. You're right" said Kendall, who appreciates the close relationship between David Booker and his brother with this mountain. He saw something sparkling between the ground and the leaves near his feet, then crouched down to check.

"What did you find?" ask David, stop.

Kendall removes the splinters and uses her fingers to pull the ground-covered object attached to a chain.

"Hour hands" David said with a smile. "Your eyes are sharp."

"There must be someone who accidentally dropped it while walking around here." Kendall handed the thing to David.

"Perhaps" said David as he removed the ground and observed the object more closely. "Or this hour was brought here by a storm. Every day we find objects scattered by the storm. Jewelry, furniture, utensils, sometimes even photos."

"Can we find the owner?"

David smiled. "Can we try. It's time you met Colonel Molly. Come on."

Along the way back down with an ATV, Kendall tries to distance herself from the back of David's field, but gravity keeps their bodies from sticking. He did not want to enjoy any touch that was on this man's body, or any man's.

Kendall never had time to date while in medical school or during PTT. He used to eat and sleep alone. Back to all the memories when he was still with his former fiancee. From the beginning of the meeting, until the incident that made them separate.

Suddenly David's hand caught his. "You okay?" ask the man over the shoulder.

Kendall spontaneously pulls a hand from under David's hand. "I'm fine." he said, more determined than he wanted.

Being betrayed by someone you trust completely openly is excruciating. But what's worse is that he can't trust his own judgment of men. They all have sides that will eventually unfold.

After a few minutes, the road became flat and the roof of the dormitory began to appear.

David directs the ATV back to the parking lot and turns off the engine. Kendall jumped down, relieved to get away from the man. But his brain was still spinning and his hands were trembling due to Cara's notice, making it difficult to remove the helmet hook.

"Let me help you." David bargained

Kendall refused, but David put away his fingers and, leaning against the crutches with both elbows, pulled off the helmet hook deftly. Kendall avoided eye contact by staring at the man's chin.

"Thank you for driving me." Kendall said stiffly, taking off the helmet.

"Together, Miss Little Doctor." David lifted Kendall's chin with one finger. "Did something happen in the tower?"

Her voice sounded soft, but Kendall reminded herself that the man only felt sorry for her. David admits in front of his brother that he kissed Kendall out of compassion.
