The Degree

The Degree
Virgo Goal

Ray and Virgo went over where not many people were there. They are currently in the northern part of the park, where there is nothing interesting to see.

Both of them keep a distance of more than two meters to be alert if something unwanted happens. Even if Virgo conveys his motive just to talk. Ray would firmly refuse to believe.

The enemy is still the enemy. In this world there are no trustworthy enemies.

“It's a beautiful place, huh? Apart from our upcoming battle later.”

Starting from malls, parks and even entertainment sites such as cinemas. Secret really spoils them just for the maximum data that will happen in the next task.

Many enjoy it as much as possible without thinking about things that might happen in the future. They may think that this could be the last time they feel this kind of pleasure.

Few people realize some of the strangest things from this time of rest. Ray and Virgo are one of the few people who understand this suspicion.

“I'm sure you didn't come to say things like that.” At least that's what Ray believes. It was absurd to expose himself where many of his enemies were wandering around looking for him.

Virgo must have something he wants to tell Ray. If Ray is Virgo, he won't show himself for no good reason.

“I'll kill you on your next assignment.” Virgo delivered it without any other intention. His words correspond to what he will do in the future.

Virgo spoke again before Ray could respond.

“Not only you, but all those who have blocked me. Nothing will be left of you.”

Ray would take it as a wind then if it was someone else delivering it, but Virgo is definitely a different case. This person was the mastermind behind the determination of ten people with dangerous degrees among the second generation.

In addition, Virgo has long colluded with Sebastian so as to successfully instill an observer who will not be suspected and as a result, the death of the Order and the destruction of Blueeast is achieved.

“I don't know anything and suddenly someone says they want to kill me. If this is a joke, then your joke is bad.” Ray responded flatly.

“You are the mastermind behind the unexpected appearance of those people. I didn't expect that the woman would be out of her way to help you.”

From his words, Virgo already knows the existence of Indri and his group but chose not to disturb him in any case because the small group, contains people who he values has a dangerous Degree.

Even so Ray is somewhat doubtful that Indri really has a dangerous Degree. Surely Ray has ascertained the truth of his member's Degree, but only Indri is unknown.

“Gut? That's a meaningless accusation. It's possible that they came to help by chance because we have the same enemy. Maybe they just happen to do it. No one knows the way of the small group's mind.”

“You still refuse to acknowledge,” Virgo as if sighing tired. “Ray Morgan, I don't know what your Degree is. There's no way to determine if you're dangerous or not.”

It seems that Virgo's privilege to identify a dangerous Degree or not has a limit so that he can't do it at will.

“So. You want to eliminate variables that can't even be known whether what's in his pocket is a hoax or a candy.”

“You understand well,” Virgo does not dispute Ray's words. “In addition you are a figure who is in the middle of all the chaos before.”

The chaos in question is the emergence of Indri and others. If Virgo manages to track them down but ignores them, it means that Virgo believes that Indri will not show up to help any party.

But in fact, Ray's existence became a big change to the situation even though it was not the initial plan.

Ray initially planned to weaken all the unions and other people living in the Open World. Ray prepares bombs secretly around the Redwest and even makes arrangements to poison the water source.

If everything went smoothly, there would be at least a few hundred, maybe thousands of people killed by poisoning. Surely it will be short-lived until Erina realizes it but Ray's goal is achieved when the woman finds out.

If Erina finds out then she will lower the ban on consuming river water. Water will be purchased with DP which is a waste.

If the water and food supply are fully purchased by the DP, then it is only a matter of time until people become impatient to end the fifth task and by then chaos will break out.

Things should have gone that way, but the Virgo attack was something unthinkable. Even Sebastian's betrayal also plays a major role in destroying Ray's ultimate goal.

‘If all my plans are successful, it is certain that I get a reward from the task bonus.’

Ray may be disappointed but he tries not to regret it. What has passed will still pass, but revenge is a different thing.

“So, this is a declaration of war from you?” asked Ray in a sharp tone.

“Of course not,” curiously Virgo refuses to admit it. “Being your enemy now won't give you an advantage anytime soon. As I said, the next task, you will die.”

Ray concludes that Virgo will not move to do anything to him until his next assignment. The sentence may be pleasant to the ear, but as before. There is no credible enemy.

“It's weird. I'd believe someone else who said it wouldn't be hostile to me right now. But this is you. The same person, who wanted to kill me.”

A little too much Ray was able to guess in which direction this conversation would go. There are only two possible paths. Just in case Ray had placed his hand on the concealed handle of his gun.

Virgo has assumed that this will happen. He also tests Ray to find out how sharp this person thinks. And, as he expected, Ray understood the purpose of this conversation.

At the stage where everyone who became his enemy was in one place, fomenting a commotion and trying to throw a tantrum in the enemy's cage was a foolish act.

Virgo is not that stupid. He realized that with so many great people here, with just one small step his group would completely disappear.

‘For that reason this woman took another path,’ thought Ray.

Rather than making many enemies capable of eliminating it. Virgo chooses the risky path by reducing the enemy without making a fuss.

“Ray Morgan,” call Virgo. “I want to work with you.”

As expected, Virgo comes to give Ray a choice of the future.

‘Well, this is not boring.’

...****************...

Yo! Long time no two.

I want to give an explanation of Ray's secret plan, which he ran during the Open World secretly but failed.

All this time I was just making it explicit that Ray had a plan. But there was never a detailed explanation for it.

Well, just get on with it.

The first week where Ray rampaged due to being affected by Degree Erina, there was a time skip that I prepared. During the time skip, Ray sets bombs in various places.

The initial goal is simple. Under the right conditions, Ray will detonate his bomb to give Erina the possibility of sabotage and attacks from Blueeast. There are two possibilities of this.

The first, is that Ray wants a direct confrontation from Blueeast and Redwest to set up a great mess. If this really becomes a large-scale war, Ray will understand that the hatred of both is deep. And, one day there will come an opportunity where both parties are weakened. When it happens Ray will appear to present a performance, the execution of two great union leaders.

After that he will build his own union. It doesn't matter if a few members. When it happened there was only one union, the union he made.

Second, if the war doesn't happen because Erina doesn't immediately throw chaos at the Blueeast for some vague reason. So Ray will confirm that the leaders of these two great unions actually do not have mutual hostility.

Obviously if that happens, plan B will go as it should. The poison that Indri found et al, is plan B owned by Ray.

Plan B begins with his meeting with Leo and Rin. Even without asking clearly, Ray knew that the flow of river water starting from the waterfall also flowed all the way to the Blueeast region.

Assuming that the river is artificial and forms a vicious circle around the Open World, Ray includes dangerous substances that are perfectly capable of killing humans.

Even if the substance had a small impact as it dissolved into river water, it was at least very likely for people to be poisoned, even if not killed.

In addition, Ray's main focus is water that has been stored by Redwest in a certain place. If the water is believed to be toxic, and even rivers also contain toxins.

Voluntarily, either Erina and her guild, or her Order and guild. Both would not take such a big risk to keep consuming the river.

Therefore, the purchase of water will occur, where there will be a lot of DP wasted. The small task Secret had prepared would not be able to keep up with it. There will come sooner or later a time where all parties run out of DP and dissatisfaction arises.

From the dissatisfaction of the people, the coup is not impossible to happen. Ray will use a doll named Terumi and Leo to spark the flames of rebellion at the Blueeast. Ray will play at Redwest.

There are many possibilities of plan B. Even if the rebellion fails, Ray won't worry. He has a big bet that Secret should have unlocked the fifth task properly or not all of his guinea pigs would have starved to death.

And, yeah!

At first I wanted to play with the idea. But once upon a time, this idea that I thought was great went unused for several reasons. For that I added figures outside the plan such as Virgo, Indri and others.

And, this sucks. It sucks because in the last Arc later, it will probably have a very long story.

However, even so, this is worth waiting for.

Oh and for the record, I'll never change the Degree that Ray and Arthur have, and the other characters whose degrees have been revealed.

Why Arthur?

Do you know the movie Death Note?

If you've seen L's chase confrontation with Kira. Then this story will present the same thing but also different. In short, two important characters harua play.

Arthur will play an equally important role as the main character!
