Bitter & Sweet

Bitter & Sweet
Part 48's

Matthew's meeting with several messengers from the city government, seemed to go smoothly, as if nothing had happened to Matthew before his meeting.

Matthew who incidentally is a CEO who is quite young, can really work with professionals, until the people who meet him are on average much older than him, he said, looks disinclined to Matthew.

Although Matthew's work went well, there was still something that disturbed Chloe's mind, so Chloe could not concentrate well in doing her own job.

The conversation between Chloe and Maddison was ringing in her ears, and made Chloe probably die wondering what was really going on.

Chloe was confused and a little anxious, just in case she had made a mistake.

Because from her voice, it sounds like Maddison is feeling disappointed in Chloe.

But Maddison was still trying hard to cover up his disappointment, so Maddison seemed to have trouble talking to Chloe.

And in closing the conversation with Chloe on her phone, Maddison made sure they would return to the country soon.

Yes, they.

It's not just Maddison and Nathan.

Not to miss Jackson McLean, Grandpa of Matthew who will come to visit, after several decades he never set foot in this country.

Maybe because of something that was the subject of conversation between Jackson and Matthew earlier, who made a sudden decision like that.

And according to Chloe, it's certain that it's not something playful that could be the reason for the group's owner and founder McLean, until he wants to return to the country suddenly.

"Sin...!"

"Miss Ferns!"

Chloe who was deep in her own thoughts, gasped at the sound of Matthew trying to attract her attention by calling her name many times.

"Ugh? ... Yes, Sir!" chloe, hurry.

Matthew seemed to furrow his brows deeply, then drew closer to one side of Chloe's face, and whispered with a word,

"What are you thinking? ... We're still working."

"I'm sorry, sir," said Chloe, who immediately stood up from her seat.

Chloe continued to serve the guests who met Matthew, who was now preparing to leave the restaurant where they met.

After all saying goodbye to each other while shaking hands, Chloe then drove the messengers from the city government, to the outside of the restaurant.

When Chloe came back to see Matthew, her boss looked like he was staring at the screen of his phone.

"They're all gone, sir," said Chloe, leading Matthew to raise his gaze and look at Chloe. "Are we going now?"

Matthew then looked at the watch on his wrist. "There's still time. We can rest here, just for a minute."

"Good, Sir!" chloe said, then sat back in her chair.

"Cloe!"

Hearing her name being called, Chloe immediately turned her head towards Matthew sitting beside her, and seemed to be fixedly staring at her.

"Yes, Sir ... What's up?" Chloe was waiting for what Matthew would say.

"Hm ... When I have nightmares, am I delirious?" Matthew, who looked curious, sounded hesitant as he asked that question.

"L-yes, Sir...." Chloe hesitated to answer.

"What do you hear? ... What did I say?" matthew asked, who looked increasingly curious.

"You're rummaging, as if some stranger is taking you somewhere foreign to you, too" Chloe replied, cautiously.

"That's it?" matthew asked, looking to be sure.

Whatever Matthew said in his subconscious flashed through Chloe's mind, until Chloe said,

"I'm sorry, Sir ... But as it sounds, the stranger hurt you, until you complained of pain."

"Hmmm...." Matthew mutters. "You know it was just a dream. So you should not tell it to others, so that there is no misunderstanding."

"Yes, Sir!"

Although Chloe can answer with confidence, Matthew's statement still disturbs Chloe's mind.

According to Chloe, Matthew does not need to explain that it is just a sleeping flower, because Chloe must know it.

And without Matthew forbidding her to tell anyone about her dream, Chloe would not have to talk to anyone else.

Thus, it was precisely Matthew's statement that only provoked curiosity for Chloe.

"Did you eat well?" matthew asked, sounding like he wanted to switch the conversation.

Matthew smiled broadly. "You can order it again. Order two at once! Because I still want sweet food."

"Good, Sir!" Chloe then signaled the waiter to approach their table, and immediately made her order.

While enjoying an extra dessert delivered by the restaurant waiter, Chloe checked her phone which she had set up in silent mode.

"Oh, gosh!" chloe, without knowing.

"What's wrong?" matthew asked, looking interested to come see the screen display of Chloe's phone.

Chloe hurriedly hid her phone, so that Matthew could not see the contents. But it seemed futile, for Matthew then said,

"Can't he delay meeting you?"

Matthew means seeing a lot of missed calls from David, and so do some of the short messages David sent to Chloe.

Because she thought too much about her conversation with Maddison, Chloe forgot Agatha's words about the message from David.

Chloe doesn't remember to tell David that Chloe can't have lunch with him, due to Matthew's sudden schedule change.

In a hurry, Chloe conveyed her regret of not being able to have lunch with David, by sending a message to the man.

Explaining to David, Chloe has to have lunch with Matthew and the people who had the meeting with Chloe's boss.

"It sucks!" Matthew grumbled with a voice that almost sounded like he was whispering, and put on an annoyed look, while glancing at Chloe with the tip of his eyes.

"Ugh?" Chloe's confused.

"Should you apologize to him?" matthew asked, with his cynical voice.

"You did not think of being her lover. But it seems exactly the opposite. You don't want David to dislike you anymore. That's why, until you always try to keep his feelings, right?!"

As it sounds, Matthew is really upset that Chloe sent the message to David, and Matthew assumes that Chloe is trying to keep David's attention, in order to stay on Chloe.

Chloe shook her head.

"Are you aware? This behavior of yours, makes you look like a lover who feels jealous of his partner," said Chloe, from the origin of the talk.

"Yes! ... I am jealous!" matthew, sounds sure.

Chloe's wide-eyed.

"You always take care of her feelings. But you didn't hesitate to upset me. Who wouldn't be jealous if treated unfairly like that?" matthew said, furrowing his brows deeply.

"Pff.ht...! There's-there's this you.." said Chloe, laughing.

Chloe thinks Matthew is just joking, but it doesn't seem like Chloe's guess.

Because Matthew still had the same look on his face, it was as if he was serious as he spoke earlier.

"You serious?" ask Chloe, make sure.

Matthew nodded.

"Oh, gosh!" chloe said, then smiled broadly. "Good, Sir ... Now what can I do, so you can feel good?"

"Save your phone...! Just focus your attention on me first...! You haven't even prepared your replacement yet, have you?" matthew, who suddenly sounded weak.

While putting her phone in her bag, Chloe fell silent for a moment.

Chloe then holds the iPad and turns it on, getting ready to make job information. "What kind of assistant do you want? ... Are there any special criteria?"

"Nothing special ... Male or female, it doesn't matter. Just make a standard selection!" matthew said, then fed a spoonful of dessert left on his plate.

"Good, Sir!" chloe replied, then immediately carried out Matthew's direction.

While Chloe typed in a general notice to look for someone who could replace her as the assistant CEO, from the end of her eyes, Chloe saw that Matthew was staring at her.

But Chloe did not care about Matthew's gaze, and remained focused on his work, in order to be able to immediately publish the job information as soon as possible.

"It's done!" chloe chirps, after she's finished sending the e-mail, to the administration of the company. "We're just waiting for news from HRD."

When Chloe looked at Matthew, Chloe's boss turned her face away, as if she didn't want to look at Chloe.

"Let's go back to the office!" take Matthew, standing up from his seat. "Aren't I on an empty schedule yet, so I can meet Judy?"

"For a few days there has not been, sir." replied Chloe, who immediately helped Matthew to walk out of the restaurant.

"Especially, you said you wanted to meet her, later after your leg has recovered," Chloe continued.

"Take him to my house, then" said Matthew, stepping slowly. "Tell him, if he's not busy, then I'll wait for his arrival tonight!"
