The Eternal War Kasarewang

The Eternal War Kasarewang
Vijaya vs Magic (2)

Adi drags Harsa on a beautiful Saturday for practice. His last holiday was already in use. Not yet the sun was rising, he had paved his way to the Spirit World Bank in the middle of the living room. The torn transparent hood shows a wide grassy valley. Just like in the Material World, the sky there was still dark blue, and gradually bright.

“Yok, fast Harsa.” Adi said impatiently. He stood on the edge of the torn hood complete with his usual army uniform, pliable leather vest and pants.

Harsa, who had just five minutes to wake up from sleep, was rummaging through kitchen cabinets, looking for bread or anything she could eat for breakfast. “Bentar, Brother. Breakfast first. I haven't taken a shower either.”

“No need. So that you absorb physis faster later.”

Just as she found one piece of bread in the refrigerator, Adi lost her temper. He snatched Harsa in the collar of his pajamas and threw her behind the hood. “My magic is eaten a lot for free just to pave the way to the Spirit World Bank.” Adi complained, while entering the World Bank of the Spirit.

As before, Harsa's body felt much heavier tenfold. Adi was not affected at all. When Adi's two feet stepped on the Spirit World Bank, the transparent hood repaired itself, then the road to his house was gone already, leaving them in an endless savannah.

“Party why the hell do we have to learn magic on the World Bank of Spirit?” asked Harsa with a frown. He tried to stand up by flowing his physis all over his body. Immediately, the physis broke out of his control, and exploded in the form of fire.

Adi looked at his sister with a flat expression. “So you don't accidentally burn down the house. After all, the Spirit World Bank physis is denser than the physis in the Material World, so it's easier to control the physis and recharge your energy here.”

Harsa sighed, falling back down. “What's because it's here much heavier than in... World Material?”

“Honestly, make me the same, because I was born here.”

“So where is it here?” Ask Harsa, give up on standing. “And I still don't know what is physis.”

Adi sat down in front of Harsa and picked up a sharp twig and started drawing on the ground. He drew a few circles that overlapped each other. “See this.” Tell Adi.

“Heeh?”

“More or less, here is a picture map of this world from the perspective of a Kasarewang. You can look at it like looking at a venn.” diagram Adi explained immediately. “Earth, space, everything that can be explored by man is in the Material World, and the Material World is entirely within the Edge of the Spirit World, but not all who are on the Edge of the Spirit World are in the Material World. Right now, we are on the Edge of the Spirit World, but not in the Material World. Therefore, there are no humans or animals here.  Humans can come here, but naturally the Spirit World Bank outside the Material World is the abode of Raspangs and magical beasts. We went from the Material World to the Spirit World Bank through teleportation magic. Where is the Edge of the Spirit World? This Spirit World Bank is between the Positive Spirit World and the Negative Spirit World.”

“Heaven and hell?” asked Harsa with a frown.

Shoulder Adi. “Man has too many stories until I don't understand anymore. Positive and negative are just names. The point is there are two conflicting spirit worlds.”

“Mati.”

“Huh?”

“The only way for humans and Rats to go to the Spirit World, both positive and negative, is to die.”

“I think Kasarewang is eternal.” Harsa.

“I can die if killed, tahu.”

“How do we know the Spirit World we will come to after we die?” harsa asked, his hands started to sweat. Why is this lesson so scary? Fortunately, the dawn had just broken.

“Yah, Kai. The gate you can see in your spirit. When Kai is slightly opened, you can peek a little into the Spirit World, but if you get in, you can't go back.”

“...” Harsa processed that information for a moment, putting it as one whole concept. “I don't understand. Kai that, some kind of magic in us right?”

Adi saw it unsure. “Did you never unconsciously go into the white aisle? At the end of the hall, there will be a white gate that you can easily pass through. If you pass through that gate, you will go to the Spirit World. The gate was named Kai.”

Harsa's dream seven years ago came back to mind. Now, his fear appeared in the form of cold sweat. He then told Adi his dream.

“Good you didn't go through that gate.” Adi said, really relieved. It is not imagined by Adi how his father's sorrow that Harsa died. Adi does not tell Harsa, but the actual case where a half-human half-Kasarewang child managed to survive is very rare. Generally, two things can happen. First, the fetus will be born as an ordinary human because it does not have Kai. Second, the fetus will die because his body is unable to withstand the large pure physis due to the physis that comes out of Kai.

Cases like Harsa actually include a second case. However, miraculously, Harsa's human body is strong enough - stronger than an ordinary human - to withstand pure physis. Adi remembers Erik's asceticism when he found out that Darma was pregnant. Erik must seal Kai Harsa at the right time. Too soon will destroy the gate forever, too slowly, then pure physi will destroy Harsa's body. Harsa may not remember, but at the age of eight, was the second time Kai was sealed.

“Kak Adi” Call Harsa from her daydreams. “Means I'm going to die? If I pass through that gate?”

“Yes. Kai is the biggest reason for death for Kasarewang who is still a child and does not know better. On the other hand, it is actually either a curse or a blessing for Kasarewang. Because with the gate, Kasarewang can choose when and where he died.” Adi Clear. “Just be careful of that gate. Choosing when and where to die may sound like a blessing, but behind that, we must be really wise to determine where and when our death is right. If it's not right, that choice will be a curse.”

“Hmm. Okay. I'll remember, but if now I'm really dead.” Harsa Response. “I now understand where the Edge of the Spirit World is. Then, can Brother Adi start teaching me magic? Ee, because I have trouble standing here.”

“Ya, right.” Adi said, still amazed by his sister's physical. “Before that, what did you know about magic?”
