I'm Not a High School Boy
CHAPTER 43: Rey's Promise

Rendi has just returned home to take Adit and Tika home. Tika came with them, because Bagas was busy taking care of the lawsuit for Vienna.

Adit and Tika who initially do not know about Gisel's condition accidentally hear the talk of their father who is on the phone. As a result, they immediately whine asking to be delivered. That's why, they were suddenly in the hospital with Rendi and Satrio.

Upon their return, much of the information Gisel received from Satrio.

"Regarding the sabotage on your car is almost getting its bright spot. And this also relates to all the problems that occur in the project. All investigations are almost entirely directed at Dave Corens. Do you remember?"

"Dave Corens of Corens Corp?"

Satrio nodded his head.

Gisel recalls the last time he met the man when they were presenting a proposal for a new city in England 5 years ago. He is the deputy CEO of Corens Corp., of which his father is the CEO.

But, that was 5 years ago. Now, he's the CEO.

"Isn't it too late to sabotage? Does he expect the project to be handed to him if Skylar fails?" asked Rey, who listened to them.

"If you look at what he's doing, I think he just wants to derail the project" Satrio replied.

But Gisel doubted it. "I think it's more than that."

"But there's more to it than that."

Gisel and Rey compactly looked at Satrio as soon as they heard his words. What's more important than all that?

"The last few days, Rafael has been in and out of the Corens Corp building. Five times in the last two weeks."

Satrio put a lemar per sheet of photographs featuring Rafael walking in and out of the building. Gisel took a sheet, and so did Rey.

"What do you want?" asked Rey.

"Unknown. There's no case he's been working on relating to Corens. And we know who the lawyer is. So I guess Rafael's not applying to be Corens' lawyer."

Gisel scrunched his forehead. He kept looking at the photo he was holding. This time he thought very hard. What does this have to do with Corens and Rafael?

"Gi, from today let Alpha Team be with you wherever you go."

Gisel looked at Rey who was starting to worry. But, Gisel was also unsure if this was the answer.

"No way, Rey. Alpha team should not be seen near Kanaya for now. Especially if it's like this. I don't know what information they have. But, if Team Alpha is seen with Kanaya, I'm more worried that it will confirm the information they have or lead them to new information."

Rey can't argue with him.

"And Kanaya has a lot of weaknesses" Gisel continued.

"Dreams," said Satrio suddenly. "Let Alpha Team keep you at a distance. Don't let anything like this happen again."

"agree. Anyway gotta, Gi. Yeah?" asked Rey who didn't feel like she wanted no answer to her question.

Gisel had no choice but to obey.

"As for Kanaya's guardianship rights, is it almost final? Has it been discussed with Bagas?" asked Gisel.

"We've talked a lot. But our shortcomings are just evidence that could incriminate Clara. It should be done if we have it" Satrio replied.

"We need to finish it immediately. I don't feel good about Rafael and Clara. I'm afraid our plan to keep Clara away from Rafael didn't work out completely."

"What do you suspect?" asked Satrio.

"I don't know either. I just feel like something's wrong."

Gisel felt Clara's reaction was still fairly calm for someone who suspected her lover, even though at that time she looked angry. They must have something that makes them so strong and confident.

"Om will take care of everything. You stay alert. Remember the message, Om."

Gisel nodded his head. He felt that something big would happen in a moment.

......................

Gisel awoke with a breath that was no longer regular. Cold sweat had already soaked his forehead and entire body. He could feel his heart beating so fast.

The nightmare she had just experienced reminded her back to the moment Vienna took her. He was reminded of his fear at the time. The disgust returned to her.

"Gi?"

Rey had just entered directly ran over to Gisel when she saw that his best friend was deathly pale while holding his chest.

"Gi, are you okay? What's the matter?" he asked as he wiped his forehead which continued to sweat.

Gisel answered nothing. He continued to focus on breathing. His hand kept tightly clutching his blanket.

"Drink first, yes," Rey said again, giving Gisel a bottle of water. He drank it little by little.

For a while Rey remained there accompanying Gisel until he calmed down again. Gently rubbed his back without asking much. Letting Gisel calm himself down.

Gisel nodded his head. "I'm okay, Rey. Thank you" said Gisel, keeping Rey's hand away from him.

"Are you sure?" asked Rey once more.

Gisel nodded his head again.

"Rey ..."

"Hm?"

"Just go home. I'm okay, Rey."

Rey fell silent. Although Gisel was not looking at him, Gisel knew Rey was looking at him.

"You were here last night, right now. I know you're worried. But I'm okay now. So, you better just go home to rest," continued Gisel again.

Rey this time stood putting the water bottle she was holding onto the nightstand. "You need a break, Gi. I can rest anywhere. On the sofa, too. No need to think about that."

"Don't you think this is too much, Rey?"

"What do you mean, Gi?"

Rey turned slowly to face Gisel. His view is full of questions. His face showed concern.

"I heard your conversation with Juan outside" said Gisel.

"I heard you refused to go to Japan. You asked Juan to turn down all schedules out of town or abroad. I know this is an important meeting. But, you easily decide such a thing. Wh-wh-what for? Or maybe ... for whom?"

Only now, Gisel finally returned the gaze of Rey who had just kept looking at him.

"I saw you fighting to get to this position, Rey. You love the Falcon, so you keep proving to your father that you're worthy. Then now, I see you're destroying your own hard work for Kanaya?"

"Rel ..."

"I try not to interfere when you say you're willing to share your work and time with school, even though I'm worried about your health. But, for this one, I can't keep quiet, Rey."

Rey took a long breath. Gisel doesn't understand why Rey did it. If Rey had just been quiet, Gisel might have thought Rey was pondering. But, sigh? Why does it sound like he is trying to be patient?

Rey took the chair at the end of the room, and brought it to Gisel. He sat on it, and then looked at Gisel back with gentleness.

"So now, what do you want me to do?" asked Rey.

Gisel finds things different when Rey does that. He's not the Rey Gisel usually sees. There was a different aura than usual.

"It's obvious, right? I want you to leave. Don't worry about Kanaya. I've agreed for Team Alpha to stand guard around me. That means Kanaya will be fine. I promise I will be careful, be it at home, at school, or outside. So, go, Rey. Finish the job you're supposed to finish."

Without thinking twice, Rey immediately said, "OK. I'm goin. But ..."

Gisel was still watching him.

"But, there are things you should know, Gi. You and Kanaya are two different people. You are you, and Kanaya is Kanaya. The reason I'm near you guys is different too."

"Different means?" asked Gisel.

"You have 10 days until I get back. And when I get back, I'll just find you to explain. If you're wondering why, you have 10 days to figure out the answer."

Gisel looked at Rey annoyed. "Can't be explained now?" he asked.

Rey shook her head as she smiled her evil smile.

"Now go back to sleep. Tomorrow morning, I'll leave before you wake up. So, keep your promise as long as I'm gone, Gi. Don't do anything stupid" Rey said again.

Gisel denied it, "I didn't say anything stupid before."

"It means the same thing." Rey encourages Gisel to lie down, then pulls the blanket over to cover it. He did not care even though Gisel called his name.

"Gi ..," call Rey again, holding Gisel's arm from moving against her. Rey wants Gisel to stay under her blanket and lie on her back.

"I should have said this a long time ago. So, I'll say it now. I'm sorry for everything you've been through because of me. If only I had known, I would have protected you back then."

"Rey, I ..."

Gisel tries to turn around, but then Rey holds him back even harder.

"You ever ask me, who do I like? I do have. From then until today, I liked only one person. I love him more, Gi. I don't want to lose him. But, because of my own fault, I made him think I was the most unreliable person. I feel like I've become the most stupid person in the world. So wait for me to come back. I'll tell you who it is."

Gisel swallowed his saliva hard. He heard all Rey said, word for word. He could feel Rey's immense confidence. But this time, he hesitated. She hesitated, was her heart ready to hear what Rey would say in 10 days? Will he be ready to find out the girl Rey likes?

"Be careful tomorrow during your trip. And also, take care of your health, Rey," said Gisel from under his blanket.

"Hm .. definitely."
