Chapter 38 - Library

Lucius' new life was really busy. He risked his own life in the future.

William Goldencrest may have intended to kill him in a duel at the academy in order to avenge his younger brother. And if Lucius had not prepared himself for it, he might have died.

Lucius is now risking his life every day.

On the morning before sunrise, Lucius trained his Mana using the Mana Flow technique taught by Carmilla. Increasing his Mana capacity by leaps and bounds.

Or rather, it was about 4x faster compared to an ordinary person who trained as hard as himself.

Then after the sun rose, Lucius prepared himself to attend lessons at the academy.

"Oooh, are you interested? I can recommend a book from Miss Alora Skyweaver. The magic hero himself, because he had the most advanced knowledge of space magic." explained the old man Anderson with a friendly smile.

Lucius quickly noted it down on his little book before returning to ask.

"Then the title of the book?"

"Kaleidoscope Realms: Exploring the Mysteries of Spatial Magic. Aaah, I remember reading it years ago when Miss Alora published it. It's really an interesting read and makes it easy for readers to understand the concept of space magic itself." explained Mr. Anderson with an increasingly wide smile.

Lucius recorded everything in detail. I felt that the book was important to him.

It's just....

"The book is in the academy's library right?" ask Lucius.

"Ah, unfortunately because there are only a few copies of the book, and the price is very expensive so.... Our academy only has one and students are not given access to the book." replied Mr. Anderson with a disappointed face.

"Well.... Then why recommend it to me." Lucius lamented annoyed.

"Lucius? What's up?" ask Emily while hugging her teddy bear which this time getting bigger.

Turning his back, Lucius replied.

"No. I'm just looking for this book and...."

Emily grabbed Lucius's little book slowly. Read what is written in it.

"Ah, the book of the Magic Hero? We have it." said Emily.

"Eh?" lucius asked in surprise.

"Come to our library. I'll ask my father for permission to give you access. Just don't spoil the book." continued Emily with a soft voice.

Either unlucky or lucky for falling into this F class, Lucius felt grateful for having such an amazing friend. Including Emily.

With his increasing proximity, Lucius gained access to a special floor in the city library.

Making Lucius able to read books that were even very difficult for even top-tier nobles to touch.

And finally, after eating together with his friends, Lucius followed Emily's footsteps.

Heading to the library of that extremely majestic and huge City.

All the books that the academy has are also in this library. Even so, this library has 4 different levels of access.

The first level is for the public who are on the first to third floor in this library. Anyone who signs up and pays a monthly fee can log in and read anything on all three floors.

In the first level it contains books with general knowledge for various fields. Starting from simple magic, sword techniques, medical science, to how to prepare various household dishes.

The second level is for the nobles. Only nobles who signed up and paid a monthly fee could read books from the 4th to 5th floor.

The 4th and 5th floors contain advanced books such as political science, city governance, government, and advanced magic. In general, it is a book to support the work that the nobles will do.

In it is a very valuable book, or very limited in number for any reason. It is also a floor for storing copies of important historical books.

Included in it, is a book by heroes from various generations. Because it is very valuable and has extraordinary knowledge, access is limited so that the knowledge on this floor is well maintained until the next generation.

Because of these limitations, librarians and literati who can copy books in it are very few. The number of books is limited.

And finally, the fourth level.

The highest level in the various libraries in this human kingdom. Where in it is stored the book of the Royal family which is very confidential, and must also be guarded very closely.

No one could enter this room other than the Royal family directly. Only they have the key.

Not even the chief librarian, nor the highest-level noble, could enter it.

They were only allowed to guard this secret room with their lives. And whoever is endowed with that duty, including as one of the most respected men in this kingdom.

Including Father and Mother Emily, who served as the chief librarian in the city of Arcanum.

"It's like that" Emily said after giving a lengthy explanation.

"The library turned out to be much more complicated than I thought.." Lucius lamented while scratching his head.

Emily led Lucius into the librarian's headroom on this first floor. Where his father seems busy working behind that desk.

"Ooh, Emily. You brought a friend?" ask her dad to be friendly. He has a beautiful appearance despite being 45 years old.

With her hair starting to whiten in some parts, as well as thick glasses hanging on her neck made her wisdom look so big.

"Dad, this is Lucius Nightshade. Lucius, that's my father, Lawrence Campbell. The Chief Librarian of this City."

Lawrence immediately got up from his chair. Walking over to greet her only daughter's friend.

His clothes in the form of a long black shirt with several shades of purplish color in some parts look so charming.

"Greetings, Lucius. Glad to see my daughter has a good friend like you." said Lawrence kindly while pointing her right hand forward.

Lucius immediately shook Lawrence's right hand while giving his greeting.

"It's an honor to meet you, Mr. Lawrence."

"So, what's the question of meeting me at work?" ask Lawrence to Emily.

"Dad, actually." said Emily softly as she handed Lucius the booklet.

After grabbing the book, Lawrence read it carefully in his heart.

"Hm.... So you want to read this book?" ask Lawrence, now to Lucius.

"Ji-if allowed." Lucius replied a little stiffly.

Lawrence was wearing his glasses hanging from his neck. To make sure that what he reads is not wrong. And after confirming it....

"Could only. Besides, you're my daughter's best friend, aren't you?" lawrence asked with a friendly smile.

'Eh? This easy?!' lucius thought in his heart.

"In exchange, please. Continue to be my daughter's best friend. And help me keep him out there." Lawrence continued, smiling.

As he glanced at Emily, Lucius could see that the shy girl was smiling as well. Also happy for the permission obtained for Lucius.

And with that, Lucius gained access to the library of this city up to the third level.

A right that even high-ranking nobles dream of, but not all of them are able to obtain.

Giving Lucius access to a much broader range of knowledge.
