My father's condition didn't get better or worse, but the situation my father was in made me angry.
My father had been fighting on the front lines for many years and I doubt the people he saved even remembered his name. For many years he had worked as an adventurer protecting people, now that he was the one in need of help, there was no one beside him.
It was just me and my mom. It seems that humans are unwilling to do troublesome things like reward those who do good deeds in their lives. This thought made me angry.
My goal now is to pass the Avrion Knight academy examination and today is that testing day.
The villagers were more excited than usual because of the knights who came from the Avrion Academy. This was a very rare opportunity that only happened once a year, they treated the event as if it was a festival.
Decorations were everywhere on the streets and women wore their best clothes hoping to attract the attention of one of the knights.
I waited in the village square. There were many people out today with their children, swinging their swords practicing for the upcoming event, hoping that their child would succeed. I happened to see Gary alone but there was still no sign of Amy.
Suddenly loud cheers sounded from the south direction of the village.
"They're here" I said with a smile.
Three people have entered the city. Everyone was riding their own horses, with their large muscular bodies, waving at people as they passed by. On each horse, a blanket on the lower side displayed the coat of arms of the Avrion Academy, followed by a carriage that also displayed the coat of arms of the Avrion Academy.
These three men will decide my fate. I could feel my fingers tingling with excitement.
The knights descended from their horses and walked towards the wooden booth in the middle of the village, which was often used for announcements.
The three of them felt a little uncomfortable there. In the middle stood a supreme figure of the three. A man with black hair, face and body sculpted with a warm smile. He reminds me of my father.
On his left was a short round fat man with a very long beard. Holding an axe on his chest as if it was his lover.
Finally the last man on his right. Curly blonde hair and blue eyes. Some people may think she's a girl if only by looking at her face. His armor also stood out compared to the others. Although they all had impressive equipment with his shining armor. Most people had to sell land and their children to buy such equipment.
The man in the middle came forward and started his speech.
"I'm Knight Winford of the Avrion academy, I came here today with Knights Bernardo, and Knight Delbert." He shouted in a calm voice.
The two Knights bowed to the villagers as their names were mentioned, some girls shouted as Knight Delbert called out. The man in the middle continued to speak.
"We are here today to test whether any of you, children, have what it takes, to become a knight and show off our academy emblem with pride."
The man pulled out his sword and stuck it on the ground below.
"With this the test has begun"
The crowd cheered in response.
Quickly a group of people got out of the carriage behind them, each holding a wooden board in their hands. They immediately worked and began to make a pulpit in the middle of the village square.
Thirty minutes later the platform was completed. In the middle of the square was a doll that I knew well. It was the same kind of doll my father gave me to practice with.
"The rules are simple, you have to defeat the doll in battle, the use of magic is prohibited, but you can use any weapon you choose." He yelled.
"Will anyone try for the first time?" he said with a faint smile on his face.
Many children have raised their hands, thinking that the task is too easy. They did not think what the puppet could do. If I hadn't fought that doll before, I would have done the same to what they do now.
The first contestant to take to the stage, a boy who has an athletic body for his age, he holds the standard sword that can be obtained from any local blacksmith.
Bernardo went to the back of the doll and simply said "level 1" The doll was surrounded by a purple light while being active.
The boy instantly moved as soon as the test began, swinging a nice punch towards the puppet's body. The boy's parents stood in the middle of the crowd smiling, they thought that their child would pass the test. The next moment their jaws fell to the floor.
The puppet quickly moved its shield to block the attack. In response, it hit the boy's face with his wooden sword. Blood flowed from the boy's mouth as his body touched the floor.
The noisy crowd became quiet.
The instructors have taken turns to assess the candidates. Each one ends up failure after failure at this point no one will pass judgment.
I walked closer to the square because it was approaching my turn. I could hear Knight Winfred and Knight Delbert talking to each other. My senses and focus had increased after absorbing the crystal stone as if the two were talking next to me.
"I told you coming to this village was a waste of time" Delbert complained.
"We must do our duty as the elders ask" Winfred replied.
"A knight should be a noble, not a dirty commoner from a dead village"
Winfred sighed
"This country is in trouble, and we have to find the boy in the prophecy, we've gathered four, but who knows if the boy is among them,"
"You believe in crazy things like that,"
Delbert said with a hand on his face when the other competitors failed.
Winfred remained silent hearing the question.
As the two of them were chatting, a shocking thing happened. A contestant finally passed the exam.
I looked towards the boy whose hand was raised up by the knight Barnardo, it was a face I knew well.
Gary was the first to pass the exam.
