Looking towards Gary who was standing to my right, his entire body trembled in fear. Then when I looked at my hand, I could see that my hand was shaking too. I can't believe I was shaking either.
Is this what it's like to face a creature far above your own level? Although I hate to admit it, this creature is completely out of my reach and even if my mind is ready to fight, my body does not feel the same way.
Three knights stood in front of us, while Gary and I protected the carriage behind us. The knights stood very quietly gripping their weapons tightly, waiting for the beast to move.
While the magical beast did not move a single inch and he continued to stand there watching us all closely. He then moved his hand slightly upwards and pointed towards the knights with his claws.
"You will never be able to defeat that shadow beast, soon we will take over this entire country." His voice sounds so creepy.
"The beast can talk" Bernardo looked like he had just caught his wife cheating, he could not believe it.
It shocked everyone there, magical beasts usually did not speak, very few magical beasts possessed intelligence. Beings like dragons and humanoid beasts would probably have high intelligence, but there was never an unheard of beast like this that could speak. Maybe the shadow beast was using the bear as a container.
"Your mission will fail, and your loved ones will die." The bear said this while looking at me strangely rather than the knights standing in front of him.
The Shadow Bear jumped about 15 feet in the air and went towards the forest. There's no trace of him left.
"Why did the shadow beast let us go?" ask Bernardo.
"I thought they were just intimidating us, they wanted to shake up the kingdom and make us mentally tired" Delbert replied.
Gary is moving towards Wilfred.
"Maybe he knew he was going to lose?"
"I don't think, if it was an ordinary bear king then maybe we could defeat it, but that kind of shadow beast was much stronger. Even though I believe we can defeat him, we will definitely suffer a great loss." Wilfred replied.
While Gary gulped at the thought of fighting the bear.
Bernardo came and whispered in Wilfred's ear.
"It looks like there's a clue about our mission, maybe they're traitors who are in the academy."
Wilfred did not respond but had a worried expression on his face.
Delbert.
"They've been watching us since we left the inn, maybe the attack on the adventure is to make us come down this road. I don't think this is all a coincidence. I know the red boy will give you bad luck."
I looked towards Delbert with a half-hearted smile.
"I don't think you believe in myths, or you just choose to believe when things don't go your way."
Delbert stepped forward preparing to teach me a lesson, but this time Wilfred stopped him in time.
Wilfred looked at me and Gary and could see Gary covered in blood.
Delbert scoffed
"There are only elementary level beings, even when I'm their age, I can do much better than them."
Shortly after I defeated the bear beast, I had received another notification from the system.
This was a surprise to me because I had not seen the notice for a long time since I had hunted beasts in the black forest in preparation for the test.
After obtaining the three crystals from the wolves, I seemed to stop receiving the notification no matter how many times I defeated the beasts. It was the same as defeating the monkey beast. Perhaps it was the maximum amount of crystals I could get from any ferocious beast.
I decided to keep the crystal for later and hide it from others for now. I still don't know if this system is specific to me, or if it applies to other humans, one thing I don't want to do is be the subject of human trials.
Another thought came to my mind about that Shadow Beast. Why did the Shadow Beast bear look straight at me? Could it be that he felt something inside me, or did it have something to do with the mission these knights were on?
Before we started leaving, Wilfred came to me and Gary and told us not to tell anyone we met about the Shadow Beast. He did not tell us the reason but made us swear not to tell anyone about this.
After which, the knights quickly and wasted no time returning to their horses and continued on their way towards Renny City. After from here along the journey went smoothly and we did not have any problems anymore. A few hours later and the knights told us that we had finally reached our destination.
We arrived at the Renny City Gate which was surrounded by a stone wall about 20 meters high. There were many soldiers and knights stationed outside the walls. It was impressive for the size of the city. It had the same level of protection as the other major cities.
"Why are there so many guards?" I asked Wilfred.
"Renny City is an important base for us, we must protect the future of our kingdom, without the city of Renny there will be no one to protect us in the front row. You could say that the city of Reny was more important than some of the Cities in the Alure kingdom."
"Don't you say we're far from the border?"
"Although Shadow Beasts might not appear here, and even though there were only one or two that came from time to time, that was not the reason the guards gathered, the reason they were Dark Guilds."
"Dark Guild?"
Gary sitting next to me seemed interested in the topic.
"I've heard of the Dark Guild. They were a group of people who wanted to see the fall of the Alure kingdom, the leader used to be a member of the board of the Avrion academy until he was banished by the academy."
Gary said with a satisfied expression on his face. He looks so childish acting like that. Like there's a rivalry going on between the two of us."
"Why was he banished?" Ray asked.
"Relax young people, you will learn all this in your education, look ahead in this city because you will spend the next ten years in this city, learn everything there is to be a knight."
