53. Old Man

Almost a year had passed since Ray entered the Avrion Academy. This means it is time for basic training as our knights to end and we will move on to the second year in the academy. We still have to continue training according to the sash we received and Ray still has to continue training as a dragon knight.

The training of the dragon knights was not as expected, they had invited a teacher from Roland academy to try to train us using magic.

After not succeeding in magic, they tried to force us past our physical limits expecting something to happen. Every day we would try something different, rather than considered practicing, we were like being considered as test subjects. Whatever happens, they don't seem happy with the results we gave them.

With the end of the year, winter has come. The snow was getting higher and big ice appeared on the sidelines of the building.

Not all students graduate in the first year. Some students found it too difficult to complete their training due to their own laziness or incompetence, while others had broken the rules of the Avrion academy so they were forcibly expelled.

Ray receives most of the information about the situation in the Avrion academy from Kyle. It seems that now Kyle has become our eighth friend, spending more time in our room than he is spending his time alone. He was still as usual following all the gossip that was going on around the academy.

Rumors spread among the students that the dark guild had infiltrated the Avrion academy.

There were some knights in disguise and working for them. Some people claimed that the knights on the battlefield were lost in enormous numbers, a shadowy plague began to creep across the border.

Of course, this information was not given to the students and the students only found out about it through the rumors circulating, making it difficult to ascertain whether this was true or not.

What we do know is that knights often hold meetings between knight masters, and also it seems that the knights in this city have been reduced.

Ray had grown a little bigger and muscular and it could be said Ray's sword skills were now more formidable.

Ray was even now comparable to Gary when using our sword skills, but it seemed like Ray had encountered an obstacle in the sword. If Ray had fought Harry now, Ray knew that he would have no chance of winning.

This gives Ray three different options to increase his strength.

First To learn how to use and utilize Ki in his body and sword, second to unlock more dragon skills and third to collect more ferocious beast crystals.

The first choice required Ray to find a teacher or wait until the academy taught him a new skill.

Ray's second choice still doesn't know how to unlock his dragon skills. So this decided Ray to choose the latter and the easiest option. This opportunity would come as soon as it entered its second year, after being held hunting on the land near the kingdom.

Once the training is over, it has become a routine for Ray to relax on his own on the roof at night. Others will continue to talk about what happened in the city of Avrion and are already used to Ray's absence.

As Ray looked down at the city, something strange caught Ray's attention. Below was an old man who walked alone all night.

Retired knights were allowed to stay in the city so it was not a strange sight. The city is safe due to the fact that only knights are allowed to stay here. This makes the city very rarely an act of crime.

What caught Ray's attention was the figure behind the man. A group of four people seemed to be following him.

Ray had been watching them for a while, to confirm his suspicions.

Ray thinks this town isn't as safe as it looks. After all, humans are human, they do cruel things to each other for no reason.

Ray won't get involved because it's none of his business, but something keeps bothering Ray.

Raya decides to activate her dragon eye skill to see what happens.

The shining color of their bodies was yellow mixed with purple. Ray had seen the purple aura twice before, the first was when his father was sick and the second was against the Bear King. This can only be interpreted with one thing, namely the shadowy plague.

After what happened to my father, they have all become my enemies. It was time for Ray to ask them some questions.

Ray immediately descended from the roof of the building by utilizing sidelines and cracks in the wall.

Ray decides to stay on the rooftops of the house as he passes through town. That allows Ray to position himself better and get a clearer view. Ray immediately went to the place when Ray saw the old man.

Ray finally caught up with the old man, a group of people wearing black clothes were still following him from a distance. It was as if they were waiting for the right moment to attack.

The old man then did something unexpected, he decided to walk down the alley between the two houses, where no one was there. it was as if the old man had a death wish. It was clear that the group would use this moment to attack him.

As the old man entered the alley, Ray also followed him through the roof. As Ray had expected, when the man had reached a considerable distance into the alley, two people blocked his way and cornered him inside the alley. The old man turned around and now two more stood up to block him from escaping, the old man was trapped.

"I'm afraid you're gonna have to come with us, old man."

The old man looked around, seeing if there was anyone around.

"I think the rumors about the dark guild infiltrating Avrion are true."

For a moment Ray thought that he had misheard, the dark guild? Ray's confused.

These people were clearly infected by the shadowy plague. How could the dark guild relate to the Shadow Beast or did the old man just mistake them for the Dark Guild?

One of the men started laughing.

"You know nothing, the Dark Guild will soon take over Avrion and none of you will be able to stop it."

“One against four, it will be difficult, but I will not give up just like that without a fight.”

The old man sounded confident, but the aura coming out of the four people was strong, at least the old man was only able to take down two people and the old man did not seem to be holding any weapons.

Although Ray himself is not confident to fight him, Ray believes with his black knight skills Ray can escape if he is in trouble.

The main thing Ray needs to do is hide his identity from them, if they are still alive to see tomorrow.

Ray immediately took off his black sash and cut it into two pieces, making it into one long strip similar to a scarf.

Ray wrapped his face with a sash to cover his mouth and nose.

Ray wore his black knight gear which included a hood so that his hair was well covered.

Ray jumped off the roof of the landing building next to the old man.

"Why don't we try two against four?"
