Ch. 179 - A Consequence
Xiang Yi Bai opened his eyes slowly after finishing the meditation for 12 hours. He suddenly saw Xue Zhan enter the room through the window carefully. Know his student didn't come home last night and started sniffing out the smells of trouble from his stupid student. Directly Xiang Yi Bai put on a fierce face. Xue Zhan who was caught instantly shrieked and developed a foolish smile while scratching the back of his neck.
"Good morning, Master, hehe."
"Golden your teeth" Xiang Yi Bai replied in annoyance. His eyebrows were clutched and his face was like a lion about to roar. "No you you hear the noise out there. What's going on?"
Xue Zhan immediately took a cross-legged position in front of his teacher and saluted. Not answering the question until Xiang Yi Bai repeated it.
"What did you do all night?" xiang Yi Bai asked.
Xue Zhan shook his head trying to lie, "There's nothing strange Master, I'm just walking around the college."
Xiang Yi Bai looked suspicious until Xue Zhan who could not dodge finally explained that last night the Golden Dragon College was attacked. He fought with a warrior who was one of the Red Fangs. Xiang Yi Bai wasn't surprised by the battle that night because he already smelled the smells of bloodshed, only he didn't expect Xue Zhan to interfere into it.
Xiang Yi Bai looked at Xue Zhan with a sharp gaze. "You know how risky it is to interfere in their affairs, and you keep doing it? You forgot we should focus on another mission, you forgot about Yue Linghe? What if someone finds out about our movements and we end up losing track of them?" xiang Yi Bai asked with a voice that started to rise.
"I can't let the innocent people in the college just die" Xue Zhan replied.
"You should have heard my orders but what you always do is break them. What good is it for me to be a teacher if your work always defies your Master?" xiang Yi Bai asked in a voice that still sounded angry.
Xue Zhan felt guilty about his teacher. He realized his recklessness always made Xiang Yi Bai upset. He knew that Xiang Yi Bai did not like insubordination, but Xue Zhan could not let innocents be killed there whereas he was just silent. Moreover, since last night Xue Zhan had continued to find out about the two warriors and made sure that they were the same people who attacked him in the Intermediate Swordsman Exam.
"I know I was wrong," Xue Zhan said finally, "but I still can't let them get killed just like that, Master. Please forgive my carelessness."
Xiang Yi Bai stomped his head dizzy as Xue Zhan finished his story.he did not stop to think why his disciple always interfered in matters that were not his concern. Xiang Yi Bai knew very well that Xue Zhan had always wanted to help others, even in dangerous situations. But he was also worried about the identity of the two of them. This is very risky for the second mission trip later.
"You've always interfered in matters that are none of your business, you idiot disciple," said Xiang Yi Bai. It seemed like he would grow older even faster by facing a disciple like Xue Zhan continuously.
"I'm sorry, Master."
"Is there anything else you're hiding? Before I turn over this one inn. Tell me honestly."
Xue Zhan held his breath, fear creeping over his body when he saw Xiang Yi Bai's face return in ferocious lion mode. He stammered as he let out a voice, "A-no, Master, t-but promise don't get angry. Yea?"
"Hm. Get the stuff out first."
Xue Zhan took a breath repeatedly, after all Xiang Yi Bai had promised not to scold him. He took out the White Jade Gem from behind the folds of shabby cloth and in that instant Xiang Yi Bai was angry no matter what.
"I knew this would happen! I don't know what got into your brain that was just a grain of dust that brought the White Jade Gem here when you clearly knew the danger of that stuff if it fell into the wrong hands but you it even adds to the burden of unrelenting trouble until it feels like I'd love to break your hands to stop doing stupid things that will hurt you!" yelled Xiang Yi Bai without pause.
Xue Zhan was surprised.
"Bringing the heirloom of the heavens is the same as putting your life in danger! You've seen what I've been through before, haven't you? I help others, carry other people's heirlooms and die miserably like a criminal. Though my purpose is only to protect but the whole world is hostile to me like a criminal. Put that thing back, Xue Zhan!"
Xue Zhan silently flinched. Staring deeply at his Master's eyes which were still wide open. He was looking for something inside those eyes. Xiang Yi Bai was still injured by what had happened in the past and did not want his disciple to suffer the same fate.
Xue Zhan understood and smiled faintly. "Thank you that Master is still worried about me."
Xue Zhan lowered his head and tried to explain, "Teacher, I found the White Jade Jewel at the battle site and cannot let it go just like that. There was only one survivor and he was just a little baby, I knew exactly what danger he would suffer if he brought this heirloom and decided to take it with me. I'm just worried he'll die protecting this treasure and it'll be stolen and used for some bad purpose."
Xiang Yi Bai threw a glance towards the window. Seemed still angry with Xue Zhan. "Dispose anywhere, throw yourself into the sea. Sometimes you're more useful as a mermaid than as my apprentice."
Xue Zhan chuckled.
"Oh, sorry apparently not enough." Xue Zhan grumbled, he took out two small wine jugs made with white ceramics. He bought it pretty expensive in the market. "I brought this to Master."
Afterwards Xiang Yi Bai turned his head. "You bribing me?"
"A little more, less. Haha."Xue Zhan's laughter instantly gained a tell. He stroked his hot head. Xiang Yi Bai's hand was already like a rattan with five fingers, his punch was painful until it felt like his brain was shifting.
"Next time I see you're carrying another heirloom with you ..."
"But didn't Master also carry the heirloom of the heavens? Why can't I?"
Xiang Yi Bai whose words were cut off breathed a heavy sigh.
"You haven't been able to protect that heirloom, Xue Zhan." He continued to calm down while drinking wine. "I often encounter difficult situations because of these things. You have many goals ahead, not for protecting this heirloom you lose the opportunity to do all that and come back to regret your death."
Xue Zhan nodded in understanding.
"I'll remember that well, Master."
Hua Lian stepped into the room in a hurry and anxiety was clearly visible on her face. "Outside it was very crowded," he said quickly, "The city soldiers intervened to find the perpetrators of the murder in the Golden Dragon College. There was a massacre last night."
Xiang Yi Bai raised his eyebrows, not surprised by the news. "I thought this was going to happen" he murmured.
Xue Zhan looked up, "But what should we do now?"
Hua Lian let out a long breath. "We have to leave immediately before the guard around here is getting tighter and harder to pass," he said, packing things as soon as possible.
