Mortal To Immortal (Book 1)
Ep. 68 - Black Roses

Practicing using Bai Tian's Heavenly Star Scripture made Yao Han become sensitive to Qi, especially Qi which was negative.

Many things made Yao Han's sensitivity towards Qi even higher. Among them were life-and-death training with Feng Xian, stealth hunting on Star Moon Island, and lightning strikes as Yao Han underwent body forging exercises.

Shenghao and Honghao did not have as good of an ability as Yao Han, so did not sense the evil Qi that the gray-eyed young man meant, but they did not consider Yao Han to be speaking nonsense.

"Watch what you feel is right, Brother Yao. It seemed like there were black-flow cultivators or those who studied the black-flow science in this city." Shenghao.

The meaning of Shenghao's submission was that only those who came from the black stream or studied the black flow science could emit evil Qi.

Yao Han nodded slowly, he had once felt a slightly similar Qi while in the Moonlight City, precisely in the Jade Treasure Shop. This Qi was emanated by the black flow cultivators who were shopping there. The difference was that the Qi Yao Han felt was faintly colder and evil.

As Yao Han said this, Shenghao and Honghao compactly replied, "That's the Qi of death."

Honghao's countenance became even more serious, "Meaning there was most likely a ghost or undead controlling cultivator in this city. Seniors..." Honghao looked at Shenghao.

Shenghao immediately understood Honghao's serious gaze. This type of cultivator was a natural enemy of all the members of the White Lotus Sect.

There was a sect that was steeped in ghost and undead control techniques, named the Grey Sky Sect. Bad for the white flow party and most of the people, the Grey Sky Sect was a big ten star sect of black flow.

The Patriarch and Great Elder of the Grey Sky Sect were given the nickname as the Ghost Gate and the Gate of Corpses. The strength of both of them was in the Great Soul Realm.

According to Yutian's story, the Ghost Gate was the best user of soul magic, followed by the Gate of Corpses. The two of them were two old cultivators who were quite troublesome to fight.

One advantage to the opposing party to the Grey Sky Sect was that both the Patriarch, Great Elder, and the other members could only master soul magic to control ghosts and corpses. If they could master even higher soul magic, then Yutian in his prime as the Poison Gate would not be the strongest black-flow Gate Champion.

Shenghao turned to Yao Han, "Brother Yao, I hope you don't mind if we stay here longer to deal with the problems in this city."

Yao Han smiled faintly, "I understand. Don't worry, I'll help too."

Shenghao had wanted to say Yao Han didn't need to intervene, just himself and Honghao. But worried that the sentence would offend Yao Han, then he paused.

"After all, we need to look at the situation further. Just think good, may my feelings be wrong and there's no problem in this town."

Another in the mouth, another in the heart. Meksipun said so, Yao Han wasn't entirely sure. He secretly used his Translucent Eyes of View to look around.

The streets are deserted not because there are no people. They were there but locked themselves in the house, when it was still afternoon. This made Yao Han suspect that there was indeed something even stranger than before.

Yao Han's party entered the deeper city which was also very quiet like there was no life, until then they found a thin-bodied man walking while carrying a collection of dry wood branches.

They approached the man, then greeted him. The man was a little shocked by the presence of the three, especially seeing the appearance of Shenghao and Honghao with barely bald heads.

"I've heard of it, is it possible that you two are from the White Lotus Sect?" As Shenghao confirmed, the man's reaction was quite unique, "Young Brother, you must be the savior the sky sent to our city! You guys are good people, aren't you? Please help..."

"Uncle, relax. Please speak slowly so that we understand."

The skinny man whose name was not yet known glanced at Yao Han for a moment, then tried to catch his breath that had hunted.

"We'd better talk in my house."

The three young men looked at each other. Feeling the man had no ill intentions veiled, they followed the man to his home.

"I'm sorry I can only entertain you with this."

The man grimaced shyly serving some cookies and water to the three young men who were his guests. Yao Han and the others did not mind at all.

After making small talk, the three young men learn of a thin man named Kai, so they call him Uncle Kai. From him they knew the city they came to was called the Black Rose City.

Uncle Kai was a cultivator with the practice of being in the second level of the Basic Realm and being one of the people who became cultivators in the Black Rose City were not many in number.

Shenghao asked the reason behind Uncle Kai's reaction when he saw himself earlier. Uncle Kai looked agitated, a little stammered he told me.

"This city is in trouble, for an ordinary human-dominated city, this problem is huge. Our city is engulfed in ghost terror."

Shenghao and Honghao's countenances became serious and a little tense, Yao Han was a little calmer but he let out a long sigh.

Ghost terror began five years ago. Initially quite a lot of people see ghost sightings with different forms. Then there are some girls who mysteriously disappear. The peak of the problem was when a woman in her thirties who was pregnant one afternoon disappeared.

Uncle Kai shed tears when he mentioned about the pregnant woman who was also a victim. Apparently this woman is Uncle Kai's wife.

Yao Han then understood the reason Uncle Kai's body was so thin. His life is under severe mental stress due to the loss of his wife and future child who will be born in a matter of a few more months. Even though Uncle Kai and his wife have long waited to be blessed with a baby.

"I've tried to accept my fate of losing them, but the terror still hasn't disappeared. At least I hope this matter is resolved soon so that there are no further casualties."

Uncle Kai's tears are getting more and more. His face looked so lethargic and his eyes were almost empty. It was already very good that he did not end up killing himself because his mentality was not strong.

Yao Han touched Uncle Kai's shoulder then drained the Qi to calm him down.

"Uncle, I don't want to promise, but we'll try to help solve the city's problems." Yao Han glanced at Shenghao and Honghao, they nodded steadily signaling agreeing with Yao Han's words.

"Young man, do whatever you can. This old man will be very grateful to you." Uncle Kai almost kowtowed which Yao Han immediately stopped.
