When did Steve really feel sleep. Really sleep. He himself even forgot. In the past, every time he closed his eyes, the faces of Riston and her friends would come to him in a dream, grinning in a disgusting way.
The dream is still often haunting, but dreams about the accidents that he and Lexi experienced are more common lately. The fear he felt was truly terrifying.
Today was a surprise. As he opened his eyes, sunlight entered the room through the window slit.
Steve sat down, looking at the side of the bed that Zenia occupied was already empty. His outstretched hand rubbed the pillow leaving a few strands of Zenia's hair there, a stark proof that they had indeed spent the night together.
Steve folded his lips, holding back his smile.
His phone rang loudly, making him scowl while throwing cursing sentences.
His brow is curved looking at the name listed on the phone screen.
Steve replied without enthusiasm, "Hi."
"Away awake?" I heard a lazy answer too.
"If I haven't woken up, who do you think is talking to you, Pax?"
Gosh, Steve still holds a grudge against that middle-aged man. Calling the name Pax without frills or even feel awkward.
"You sleepin' well?"
"Never be so happy today."
"So good thing?"
"After what happened, do you think there's still something good in my life?"
There was a deep breath from across the phone to the cynical answer he gave. Steve didn't feel guilty at all
"Where are you?"
"In my room" said the plate and what it is.
"What are you doing?"
"Just hang out."
"Together?"
"Himself."
"Then I went to the countryside. Today Harry will do the same."
"What did you find?"
"If I find something, Harry can't leave today."
"Hm."
"Do you think my daughter is alive?"
"Why ask me? I'm not a psychic."
"Have you forgotten about it?"
"What is your business?"
"She's my daughter."
"Then?"
Pax growls, talking to Steve always manages to make him blood up. Steve's calmness made the man difficult to guess.
"Your friend delivered 499 champagne and I turned it down."
"Dearly enough. I'm wasting a lot of money on that fucking drink."
"Your face sucks, it's not nice to see. Is your time very leisurely, Pax?"
"You think I'd be hanging on to you if I didn't get bored."
"Then end this call. It's so awkward."
"I didn't hear you feel awkward at all."
"I'm just trying to be polite. Looks like it worked."
"Why should you be polite? My daughter no longer exists. What's important to you be polite."
"What does this have to do with him?"
"So you're just hanging out in your room?"
"That's what I said."
"Is there anything interesting in your room?"
"I was just looking at the grass that was starting to grow" he lied.
"Hm. My wife and I are going to Spain. Alena misses our daughter very much. Maybe meeting Isabel could cure her longing."
"Enjoyed travel. And now I have to end this call because I have to go."
"Why hurry up so much. Aren't you just watching the grass?"
"I need to pee."
Steve turns off the phone, throws it away and walks to the toilet. At least he didn't lie about himself wanting to pee. Steve washed his face with cold water before descending down to look for Zinia. Whether the girl is still at home or has gone home. She hoped Zenia would still be at her house.
His hope was granted, Zenia was in the kitchen. Looks confused.
"You hungry?"
The girl reflexively looked. In his hand were two eggs.
"Want to eat eggs?"
Zinia nodded, "I'm confused as to how to cook it. I mean, I don't see any teflon, spatula.
"I'll cook it for you." Steve took the egg from Zinia's hand, staring at the girl for a moment.
"How did you sleep?" Steve asked as he shuffled the eggs, then poured them into the preheated teflon.
"Suspicious."
"really?"
"Yes. I just woke up when the sun was shining."
"Good then. About last night..."
"Don't apologize," Zinia interrupted quickly. His face was red. How Steve touched and kissed her is still vivid in his memory. Zenia could still feel Steve's hand exploring on her face. "I'd feel really bad if you did that."
"What I'm trying to say is about me having a nightmare, but it seems like you're thinking about something else" Steve bites his inner cheek, holding him back from laughing. Zenia's face was not like a boiled crab. Flaming red.
"Eh?"
"I don't want anyone to know what I'm going through. But by the way, how do you know I dream the same thing?"
"I'm just guessing. I often have the same dream. It's just that my condition isn't as terrible as you are to the point of being bathed in sweat."
"You having a nightmare?" Steve looks very curious.
"Yes, I can say that. But it seems your dreams are worse. Surprisingly, I had no dreams last night. Instead I hear you screaming. What happened to him?"
"With him?" Steve frowned. Was he delirious, saying someone's name? Steve wished he hadn't done it. However, Zenia's reply made her flinch. His heart is always not broken.
"Lexy. You screamed Lexi's name. Who her? A lady? Your sister or..."
"Breakfast done. Prepare plates. I'm gonna burn some sausages."
Steve changed the subject. Clearly he was avoiding. Yes, he deliberately avoided. About Lexi is not something he wants to discuss right now either with anyone.
"I'll be home after breakfast. Zetta said some of her friends would come today. Maybe they'll come home. I have to welcome him."
"Friends?" The man's radar was instantly active, signaling there was a threat. "Zetta didn't say that he invited some friends."
"Does Zetta have to report to you about everything?"
Steve didn't know if Zenia was quipping or if she was really asking.
"Eat." Again, Steve changed the subject.
Zenia obediently enjoyed her breakfast without asking back though she was very curious. Sometimes he feels Zetta and Steve have a very close relationship. On the other hand, he also realized that Zetta is indeed a girl who is very easy to get along with anyone.
"By the way," Steve asked in the middle of his chew. Zenia raised her head, looking at Steve, waiting for the man to continue his words.
"Ehm, by the way, his friend is a man or a woman?"
"I think men and women. Zetta says some of her friends are better than you."
Steve clutched his spoon tightly and almost broke it. He clenched his lips tightly so as not to let out a rough swearing.
