Clenching his hands in front of the body, Kikan watched them climb onto Rey's pickup. He took a deep breath, and was about to start walking home, when Jason turned around and waved, and Kikan knew he would keep memories of that awkward smile for life.
Jason became moody, and kept quiet during the journey on his return from meeting with his mother. There's work Rey has to do, so they have to get back. "You okay?" Her question while their car swallows to stop at the city's central red light.
Jason shrugged his shoulders grimly.
"Can you answer with your voice?" Ask.
"I feel confused and weird." replied Jason.
Jason looked sad and sad. "Weird how?" Ask Rey.
This time Jason gave no answer, and just looked at the scenery along the way. Actually Rey can already guess, because her own feelings are also chaotic. He decided not to press Jason. They both drive in silence.
It's not easy being a father at eighteen. Rey was lucky to get help from her parents from the beginning. While she continues her education, she travels back and forth to campus two days a week, Rey raising Jason alone without ever complaining.
Now Rey feels that she is facing a much bigger challenge. He doesn't know how to deal with Kikan back in his life, or his son's life, not wanting to face all the questions and doubts he's longed for.
Because Jason didn't ask much questions, Rey didn't even give the letters Kikan sent to Jason. Except for some of them that aren't very emotional. Rey wants to protect her son, hoping that Kikan will move on and not harass them, once the woman is released from prison. But if Kikan is indeed innocent, it might be a hindrance to him and Jason would only hurt them both.
As soon as the car got into the garage, Jason immediately jumped down without waiting for his father. He immediately went into his room. Rey looked at her son upstairs, and it seemed that he needed some alone time.
Towards dinner, Jason finally came out of his room. Rey's waiting for Jason to have dinner. The two of them ate quietly, "What do you think about the meeting this morning?" Rey tried to open the conversation.
"I met my mom for the first time a few hours ago. And I can't decide how I feel about her."
"It takes time to adjust" he said, advising Jason.
"How do you feel when you're in my position?" Ask son. "Do you think he killed Lori?"
Jason has asked this question several times over the years. But Rey always said she wasn't sure and let the question hang. Kikan has never been present in Jason's life, so Jason doesn't press him on the matter, but now that Kikan is back, Jason needs a more assertive answer.
"He was not fully aware when all that happened" Rey said.
"What does that mean? Yes or no?"
Lori is the girl Rey began dating soon after Kikan, and Kikan does show her jealousy excessively. "I can only say she became somewhat. acting up after we broke up."
During this time Rey clung to Kikan's erratic attitude and obsessive tendency at that time as an excuse to ignore other behaviors, which tend to be more quiet and calm before breaking up.
" It could be that he did it, "
" right. "
His son's expression showed that he didn't like the answer. "But it could be, it's not proof!"
"There's a witness - a witness, Jas."
"That friend who incriminated him? The friend he told us about"
"Via has no motive."
Jason's riled furrow became clear, "Didn't mom admit she was driving, and there was someone else with her at the time.?"
"No witnesses saw his friend take the wheel" Rey replied.
"Why haven't I met that mom's friend named Via?"
"He moved out after the court ended."
"Why?"
"Because he graduated high school, he moved to college like his other students."
"Papa didn't move for college."
"My situation is different, son."
