Chapter 41's

Rey observed the wound on her finger bone. He returned to work after the incident at Black Coffee and has not told his parents about the fight, but the news has spread. His mother started calling him around dinner. Rey several times ignored her mother who tried to contact because she did not want to talk about the fight, did not want to face the anger of the mother, or answer her questions, which made Rey think about her own motives.. something he refuses to admit.

But it would be smarter if Rey responded immediately to her mother's questions. It was almost midnight and her mother and father were sitting in the living room.

" Why did you do it?"

" Please speak slowly" Rey said. Jason's sleeping and he's going to school tomorrow."

His mother spoke loudly. Rey's request to do so made her voice even louder. "Aren't you going to answer my question?"

Rey sighs. "If you've heard what happened, you know. Logan followed Kikan to the ladies' room at the cafe. He pushes Kikan into one of the rooms and destroys his computer. Kikan needs that computer to work."

"Working?" her mother's voice echoed. "He doesn't even have a job!"

"He's got the effort." Said Rey.

As usual when it comes to emotional matters, her father chooses silence. "What usaha?" Mother scoffs.

" He made a bracelet."

" Who wants to buy the stuff he made?" ask the mother.

Rey gritted her jaw. "A lot of people bought it... Jason's wearing one of those." So does Devan unless he's taken it off.

His mother looked at Rey. "If Logan destroyed his working capital, he should have called the police."

Rey laughed without looking happy. "Right, how far would it go to help him?"

"I don't know, but he should've handled it that way." Rey's mother insisted.

"The son of an ex-convict. He better not report to the police for anything. And I know the reason, what will the police officers do? charge Logan with bad deeds whose punishment is light, or even no punishment? force him to change computers? nay! all Logan will do is say that it was Kikan's own fault for dropping his computer. If he can convince his friend to support his version of the story, he even has a witness. If you're considering Logan's family's good reputation and no criminal record?"

" It's part of the consequences that must be borne if you kill" his mother said. "As an ex-con, you're no longer trusted, but in the version I heard, Logan didn't hit Kikan and obviously didn't mean to drop his computer."

Rey felt her muscles tighten. "I'm there, Mom!"

" I know it! look at your bloody nose!"

" It's gonna heal. Logan is wrong. And what about when Logan tries to push Jason with his jeep and force Kikan to jump into the trench? He got five stitches because of it!"

" Logan just wanted to scare Kikan, to make him feel what Lori was feeling at the last second, he didn't mean to bump into Kikan. But we're not talking about what would happen if Kikan was in the jeep with Jason, nor am I happy about it. Logan is outrageous, that's all, and the police have spoken to him."

Rey stand. "just that? Just getting there can police officers do?"

" The fact that Kikan went to the officers proves that he didn't hesitate to go to the police, as you might think. Anyway, in Logan's mind. Kikan not only killed his sister, but also made trouble for angering her. That might be what makes him jumpy again."

" Kikan didn't come to the police officer" Rey said. "I'm going there!"

"That's right." Rey stresses.

" It's not your duty to see the police officer." His mother said it as if she were telling a philosophical truth. "Kikan can overcome his own problems, no need to interfere"

" Mom, his height is only about 160 cm and he probably weighs only fifty kg. I won't let Logan terrorize her even if she loses her sister."

" I'm not saying you can let Logan do as he pleases. Because you involve the police, they can handle it. That's all. I don't want to see anyone hurt, but I don't want to explain to Karin why my son beat his son to blood!"

Rey grimaced at the choice of her mother's words. "Blooding? I didn't hurt her until that." Rey would have made Logan's injury more fatal, had it not been prevented. He has never been so angry in his entire life.

" Based on the report, you had to be pulled by some people to take it off."

Rey doesn't regret that. He was still horrified to imagine Kikan's gaze when his computer fell to the floor. He felt Kikan would get a punch in his jaw. "Logan went too far and I put a limit on him. That's all."

" He did go too far, there's no need to debate the matter, but what about the actions that went against him? his sister was killed by the woman you were protecting, Oh my God!"

Rey jumped to her feet. "He doesn't know that!"

" we all know!" mother said

" Mom wasn't in that car. Mom doesn't know what's going on. I didn't even listen with an open mind, Kikan's version of events."

" really? you're gonna let him change the past? lie and deceive you until you defend him?"

Rey was so upset that she raised her hand. "I'm not going to talk about this anymore.he hasn't asked me anything, except to take Jason to see him when he's in jail. And I feel like the cruelest human being ever did!"

" You made the right decision to do what was best for Jason. You're becoming a responsible parent. And Kikan doesn't have to ask for anything. In that case you were right, with your kind heart, to make it easy for Kikan to influence you to make that woman's life easier."

" Nothing is easy for him Mom! That's what you don't seem to understand. Or does she not care?"

His mother stood up. "I care about my best friend and his murdered son. That's what I care about!"

" What about the fact that Kikan's Jason's mother? that Jason wants to know his mother? that maybe, just maybe, we should trust that he's not the monster we created!"

His mother shook her head violently. "We've talked about this before. Jason's better off without Kikan."

Rey saw her father. "You agree with that, Dad? do you think I should just be quiet when a 100kg man hits him?"

His father stood up. he agreed with his mother, explained his mother who asked. But his opinion on the matter did not seem as strong as his wife's. Rey guessed, her father might sit there hoping she could go home and sleep peacefully.

" Maybe you should let someone else help Kikan. That's all we can say" his father replied.

"Who?" ask Rey. "Who else will help? the whole town hates him. They think he's a killer."
