My Heart Was Wounded Deep
Chapter 16's

Rey leaned her head back on the chair.

"I don't know why you told me this."

"Don't know?"

"He's not my enemy!"

"really? Because I clearly remember you didn't want him back. You spent years terrified that day would come."

I don't want Rey to be defensive. "There's a lot of things I'm betting on" he said.

"I understand. I don't blame you. I just feel like I should tell you, because making it easy on him might encourage him to stay here when you'd rather he'd leave."

Rey has a hunch Kikan will stay no matter what. That woman is so stubborn." I don't care if you help her. "

" Good, thanks. And if this makes you calmer, she's telling me she doesn't want to trouble you at all."

"He said that?"

"I guess that's what it means."

"Why?"

"My guess, to show clearly that he can be commendable. That he won't ask for anything from you, not expecting anything, not even a ride from your friend. He just wants to get to know Jason, that's for sure."

Rey remembered how much her son had been silent all day." I thought Jason wanted to know her, too. "

" Are you not bothered by that? "

Rey sighed." He's been sixteen years. I can no longer choose for him. "

" Then we better hope Kikan's intentions are as good as he says. "

" You're right, "Rey replied

"Rey? "

Rey looked at Devan, "What?"

"She's a lot prettier than she used to be."

A jolt of anger infiltrated him, and Rey sat up straight. "That's why you want to help her!"

"Just calm. No," said Devan. "I was just wondering if you noticed that."

"Of course I noticed," Rey said. "I suggest that you have no ulterior intention of approaching Kikan, don't bother him." Rey soon passes away leaving her study, leaving Devan riveted alone.

"What about this?"

Rey grimaces at the blue dress Devan pulls off the shelf. He began to ask what had possessed him so he called Devan early in the morning and offered to go shopping. Just because Devan decides to play the role of a helper god, doesn't mean Rey has to go along with his plan. "I don't know. I don't even know what I'm doing here." he grumbled.

"I know." said Devan. "Kiss your son's mother that's why you're here. And you don't feel good about letting it get in trouble, when you have a lot of money"

"No, it's your fault" Rey said. "You're dragging me into this thing."

"Murrayed you? It's precisely you who suggested that we stop at the grocery store before coming here, and and buy canned food, minced meat, chips, and somehow more. Then get out of there with almost two full boxes."

The memory of Kikan sitting at Just Come Cafe probably with the only proper outfit he had, counting the money to pay for Jason and himself breakfast, made Rey shudder. But the problem is not just that. Spending a few things to help him start his life over is the smallest favor Rey can give, especially if Kikan is innocent. "The most reasonable food. That's probably what he needs the most."

"Clothes make sense too" Devan said. "So... Should we buy this?" She swayed the dress to attract Rey.

The store clerk approached, a woman named Maria by her uniformed name.

"It's one of our latest model dresses" Maria explained willingly. The model is elegant, so is the motive. And with a cool cotton material, every woman will love it. "

Rey thinks Maria knows better than they do, the girl she dated last year never wore such a feminine outfit. But now Kikan is a woman, and judging by what she wears in the cafe, her taste has become more mature.

Although this was not a perfect choice, Rey thought the woman would not be dismissive. "I think it's good too." It's been two hours they've been shopping and bothered to collect all sorts of other groceries. But they have to make the journey home, Rey wants this done soon.

Sighing in relief, Devan turned to the store clerk." We'll take this one"

The woman walks towards the cashier's desk when Rey stops her. "We'll take this one too" Rey said.

The officer put the dress in his arm. "There's another addition..?"

"Maybe shorts"

When Maria went to find what Rey asked for, Devan spoke quietly. "What about the underwear?" smile at Rey.

"Don't provoke my emotions." replied Rey.

"For people who initially seem reluctant to this idea, you look very excited to give Kikan the goods he needs.

" Nobody better know about this. "

Devan patted Rey on the back." It won't"

"Includes him."

"We'll knock on the door and run. He'll never know."

"We're not gonna knock on that fucking door, let him find what we left for him tomorrow."
