My Heart Was Wounded Deep
Chapter 39's

Kikan hates himself for being relieved at Rey's arrival, when the relief comes, he realizes how frightened he was. But soon after stepping out of the door Logan again pulled Kikan, banged his body against the wall of the toilet cubicle, and made the computer he was holding fall down.

Kikan knew his computer was broken once he heard it hit the floor.

" Oh, no!" His efforts depend entirely on that computer.

Kikan desperately tried to retrieve his computer, but Logan stepped on his hand, turning his leg as if hoping to break every bone of Kikan.

Then everything started to get messed up. Rey pulls Logan's collar, twists it, and hits the man in the face while a punch of his hand makes Logan hit the sink.

Logan's friend shouted, "what the fuck!" and trying to hit Rey. Fortunately one of Rey's friends, who is now standing at the door, stops her punch and drags her out.

Kikan initially thinks it's over, until he sees Logan back on his feet and attacks Rey. Leaving his computer where it fell, Kikan hit Lori's sister trying to block her blow. He wanted absolutely no one else to get hurt. But Nanda is one of Rey's friends. Pull Kikan away.

" Take him out" cried Rey, just before she and Logan had a fight.

Kikan has never seen Rey fight anyone. Rey has always been popular, liked by many people, and easy to adjust. Kikan doesn't believe Rey is now fighting boxing, and he doesn't want to be the cause of all this.

" Rey, No!" Kikan shouted "Stop!"

Kikan tries to break away so that he can urge Rey to get out of there. Logan's body is much larger, Kikan is afraid to see the consequences of this fight. But Nanda still held him.

" Don't bother him" whispered Nanda

" But he could get hurt!" Isn't that obvious? Why didn't anyone break up this fight? rey's friends detain a friend of Logan so this fight will be fair, but only to the extent of it.

" He'll be fine" Devan assured Kikan. "He was angry enough to hit anyone. I wouldn't even do that even though I'm much more experienced."

" I've never seen it like this" said another visitor, shocked. Kikan thought it might be Kelly, but he could not turn his eyes fixed on the two men who hit each other. Rey gets hit in the face, and her nose starts to bleed. It felt as if Kikan had been hit by a blow, and could not bear to watch it.

" I can puke seeing this," Kikan told Nanda. "I'm just gonna go."

Nanda must have known Kikan was serious by blocking his path so Kikan did not change his mind and went back inside Nanda to release him.

Although his knees were limp, Kikan continued to attempt to penetrate the crowd, trying to get out before finally vomiting.

That night the air was hot. Kikan lay on the bed looking at the glitter of the lights shining down from his mother's house, and barged through the window.listening to the whirring of the wind from the old fan he found in the backyard. This instrument emits a regular sound and rhythm, moving in a twist. The air flowing from this fan provided calm, but he was still unable to sleep. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Logan hit Rey's head and blood coming out of the man's nose.

Then Kikan felt nauseous again.

Kikan doesn't know. He did not know what happened after he left the place. Once out of there, Kikan picked up a bicycle and rushed down the road. He did not dare go too far. So he went to the suburbs, where he hid behind the hilly, tree-lined area. Kikan continued to be there for at least two hours, until he felt strong enough to travel several meters. When Kikan hid, Devan drove his pick up very slowly, as if he was looking for Kikan. Kikan sees Devan's pick-up prowess more than once, but he still doesn't want to talk to Devan, yet wants to know what happened after the fight. In case Rey's bone or jaw is broken.

She's doing just fine. Kikan muttered the word many times to strengthen it. But nothing seems to calm him down. He continues to imagine Jason seeing his father come home bruised and bloodied everywhere, then blaming Kikan. A place where no one wants his presence.

He must be hoping Kikan leaves town soon, just like Logan.

Maybe Kikan should go. It's not Logan's fault if he hates Kikan.he doesn't know that Kikan is innocent in his sister's murder. The story of someone seizing the steering wheel, Kikan knew how absurd it sounded. No one believed him at that time in court and no one believed him at this time.

In his attempt to try to stop the words that were on his mind, Kikan rolled on the bed. But vain. He's still agitated. It flashed in his mind to go down into the river and calm down. Then he saw a light still burning in his mother's house. Is he strong enough to meet his mother and tell her stories.

Kikan saw a pair of car lights turn into the yard.

Is that Rey?

Kikan guessed it was Rey, so he hurriedly moved towards the front door. He was so sure it must be Rey that he opened the door in a hurry, but he was shocked when he saw Devan's pick-up that was there, not Rey's.

Devan takes out Kikan's backpack and broken computer and hands him over. "Hey"

Kikan waited for Devan to approach him. "Hi."

" Are you okay?" ask Devan.

" Of course" Kikan did not ask how the fight continued in the coffee shop. He was too afraid to hear it.

" Nanda said you looked very disappointed when you left this morning."

Kikan stuffed his hands into the back pocket of his pants and raised his chin. "I don't like anybody, whoever it is, fighting for me."

" Anyone?" ask Devan. "Or Rey, when she could've been hurt?"

" I don't know what you mean" Kikan snatched to show that he didn't like Devan's remarks. "I'm not trying to win Rey's heart if that's what you mean. I've never even called her. I haven't been there, I haven't done anything." Kikan said.

" I'm sure you're not planning on going back to her, because you feel like that hope is too much. But that doesn't mean you don't care about him" Devan said.

"That's crazy... I care about her. Of course I care about him. At Jason's father." Kikan spoke in a huffed tone, as if there was a continuation of his sentence, and wished there was. There's nothing more dangerous than what she's ever felt about Rey.

Devan rubbed his chin while observing Kikan. "You don't wonder how the end of the fight was? "

"Not really." Kikan's lying.

Devan smiled for a moment. "He's fine, Kikan. He can defend himself, Logan's getting the worst of it."
