CHAPTER 50. CONVINCE GRANDMA

Varen looked at the luxurious house in front of him. The magnificent building with European-style architecture that still looks solid has been standing since his late father was a child. The four pillars of the house that support the front of the house make the house look even more magnificent. Varen grinned bitterly as her eyes fell on the large window that surrounded almost the entire front of the house.

He still remembers what happened twenty-two years ago when he first set foot in this house. At that time his parents wanted to introduce him to his grandmother who had just returned to Indonesia. Enthusiastically, that night Varen brought his painting to Samar but after a long wait his grandmother did not see them.

As it got late, Verdi decided to take his son and wife home. But Varen insisted on waiting until his grandmother came out to see him. He was eager to give his painting to his grandmother, which he had only heard from his father's story. She never met her grandmother not even knowing her grandmother's face.

Varen cried so much that she hoped her crying would get her grandmother out to see her but her efforts were not in vain. With the spirit of little Varen hugged his grandmother's feet but what Samara did instead of welcoming her granddaughter's embrace.

He instead pushed Varen and asked the bodyguards to evict them from his house. While crying, little Varen left the painting to her grandmother's assistant in the hope that her grandmother would be happy with the gift. But when their car left and Varen looked back, he saw his grandmother's window open.

Little Varen smiled thinking her grandmother would stare at her. She wanted to see his grandmother's face but her smile instantly faded as she watched her grandmother's hand outstretch throwing away the gift she was giving. The feeling of pain and disappointment that he felt at that time was still felt until now as if the incident had just happened.

Varen took a deep breath trying to shake off her chest-stifling sadness. Because the incident and subsequent events make Varen reluctant to stay at his grandmother's house. She would rather live in a small bungalow owned by her aunt located at the back of this magnificent house.

“Good morning Young Master. Mrs Samara has been waiting for Mr in the park beside.” said Ezra disperse the daydreams of Varen. He immediately headed to the right side of the house and saw Samara sitting while reading the newspaper with a cup of tea in her hand. The old woman sipped her tea slowly while blowing.

“Good morning Nek.” said Varen approached her grandmother and hugged her shoulder. Although she knew her grandmother would not respond, Varen did so every time they met. As if to tell his grandmother that he loved her so much no matter how much she never returned.

“Sit. I find it hard to read the newspaper if you hug me like this.” Samara said in a cold voice. Samara did not even glance or look at Varen, her attitude was completely indifferent.

Varen grinned bitterly and let go of his embrace. He sat next to his grandmother so he could talk to her.

“What are you doing all the way here? Do you want to talk about that cheap lady?” guess without further ado without taking his eyes off the newspaper.

“Nek, the woman that grandma refers to is my wife and she is not a cheap woman. Please don't call my wife that.” said Varen who felt the pain in her heart.

Samara raised her face to look at her grandson. The words he had just heard reminded Samara of Verdi's words twenty-seven years ago. Their words were similar and said the same to her. Samara snorted in annoyance and sneered not expecting everything to be like dejavu.

Samara still remembers, Verdi insisted on defending his wife as much as Samara gave evidence and the vices of his wife. But finally Verdi himself who swallowed the disappointment of being betrayed by the woman he loved. Samara clenched furiously, her heart always filled with emotion every time she recalled the bad events that befell her son.

“For grandma, she's still a cheap woman! She did not hesitate to accept the money she offered and still wanted to stay with her husband! Hmh! Greedy woman!” Samara insisted with her bad thoughts towards Reina.

He believes that the woman is no different from Varen's mother. They are both duitan-eyed women who will do everything they can to get their wish.

“Really? Then why did he ask you to buy him expensive clothes, bags and shoes?” Samara smiled cynically believing that her granddaughter would not be able to give a proper reason for it.

“The stuff isn't expensive, grandma. It was just ordinary clothes and bags.” Varen said defending his wife.

“Cih! Since when does Martin sell quality clothes and bags?” Samara scoffs.

Varen becomes convinced that her grandmother is always watching her, and she even finds out that she bought Reina's clothes at her uncle's shop. His grandmother also knew how much the price and quality of the goods that Varen bought for his wife. Reina herself knew nothing about it.

“Alright, grandma. I admit, those things are expensive. But Reina never asked to be bought, it was my initiative to buy everything.”, Varen explained.

“Reina needs all that, grandma. She had nothing, all her belongings were shabby items and she did not carry much clothing when coming out of her parents' house.” explains Varen again in the hope that his grandmother will believe in his words.

Samara is back in focus staring at her newspaper, “Terselahmu, you want to say anything still to me she is a cheap woman and thirsty for money. A greedy woman who accepts money but still wants her husband. Cih!”

“Nek....” said Varen did not continue his sentence. He was confused how to give understanding to his grandmother so as not to think badly of his wife.

“Tell me what purpose you came here for. I don't have much time, I will have a guest soon.” said Samara who is still focused on the newspaper.

Varen looked at his grandmother with sadness, there was not yet half an hour he chatted with his grandmother but the woman had already kicked him out. They have not met for four months and Varen misses her grandmother very much.

“Please don't disturb Reina anymore grandma. Let him focus on his work. In a moment Felix will be gone so I desperately need Reina to replace him.”

Samara was silent, she neither refused nor agreed to her grandson's request. Actually Samara doesn't like to see Reina hanging around in her company. Moreover, he was around his granddaughter which made Samara even harder to keep them away.

“Our company in London is in desperate need of Felix, if grandma keeps bothering Reina then her job will be neglected. That will make Felix longer here so please let Reina work quietly without any interruptions.” Varen reassured his grandmother.

Samara silently did not respond with rejection or agree to her grandson's request. “Grandmother, silence does not mean I agree with your marriage.” he said then took a cup and filled it. Drink your tea, it's good licorice tea for the stomach.

“Thank you, grandma.” Varen's smile expands, she's sure for a while her grandmother won't bother Reina again.

Without a second thought he drank his tea, he was happy to get the attention of his grandmother, during tea, there was no conversation whatsoever that Varen did. Her grandmother preferred to be quiet while sipping her tea.
