CHAPTER 55. KEEP TO THE PROMISE

“Varen. It's me, Reina!” reina said when the connection was connected.

“Reina! I---”

“Can you pick me up now in the hospital? I passed out and now I'm in the hospital. Sorry I just told you.” said Reina.

“Reina i--”

The flashback

Minutes earlier after Verdi exited IGD. He was clutching his mobile phone which kept on vibrating. She felt guilty towards Reina who kept lying to her by hiding her identity.

But Verdi was confused as to where to start telling the truth. Reina was very sincere with him and it was Verdi who feared that his wife's heart would be hurt by his dishonesty.

Dreeettttt dreeetttt dreeeeettttt

Reina's call came back in and she was determined to tell him her true identity. Verdi swiped the green phone icon on his phone screen.

“Varen, it's me Reina--”

“Reina i--”

“Hiks...hiks..I want to go home. Can you come get me? Hikss...hikssss..” isak Reina.

“Why are you crying? Reina---” Verdi stepped up to enter IGD but she remembered her appearance as Verdi. “Reina---”

“I want to go home to Varen! Please pick me up! Huhuhuhuhuhu...” her cries are getting louder.

Verdi stammered at the sound of Reina's crying, her hands hanging in front of the doorknob of the treatment room. Verdi turned off his phone and ran to the parking lot. Maybe now is not the time to be honest. Verdi did not want Reina's condition to get worse because of her honesty.

Flashback off

Felix approached Reina who drowned her face on both knees. She was worried to see Reina who was suddenly crying.

“Reina, why are you crying? Does anyone hurt?”

Reina shook her head while still hiding her face. “Please leave me alone."

Felix was hesitant to comply with her brother-in-law's request, but he stood still looking at Reina's trembling shoulders. Felix was about to touch his shoulder but Reina's voice had come back.

“I need time alone. I beg you to leave me alone here.” pinta Reina firmly.

Felix clenched his fingers that almost touched Reina's shoulders. “Good. I'm waiting in front. If there's anything you just call.”

Felix went out to comply with his brother-in-law's wishes. He turned the door handle and closed it slowly. As soon as he came out, there was a sobbing of Reina that was sounding increasingly heartbreaking.

Reina looked up and looked at the phone in her hand with a pushy look. She was feeling depressed at this moment and all she needed was her husband's presence.

45 Minutes later…..Varen ran towards the IGD's cage. Because he had left with Felix then he had no change of clothes and was forced to look for clothes first.

“Why are you here? How's Reina doing?” Varen asked in surprise when he saw Felix standing in front of the IGD room.

“Reina asked me to come out. Come inside. He was crying.” Felix replied.

Varen turned the door handle and he saw Reina sitting while looking at him, Varen walked over to his wife.

“How are you doing? Why are you crying?” asked Varen looking at Reina's puffy face.

Varen nodded to remove the remaining tears on his wife's face. The two looked at each other, Varen stared at Reina's brown bead and vice versa. Reina grabbed Varen's hand on her cheek and pulled her body down. Reina hugged Varen very tightly.

“I want to go home.” the door with a hoarse voice.

“Good. We go home yes, don't cry anymore.” said Varen. Then he went out to take care of Reina's return. After completing the administrative payment, they went home with Felix.

Along the way there's not much they talk about. Reina leaned her head against Varen while holding her husband's hand. Varen embraces Reina's shoulder while occasionally peering at Reina's face through the rearview mirror in front of her.

Although his wife's eyes were closed, Varen knew that Reina was not sleeping. Reina's hand was so strong that Varen felt her hand go numb.

Felix looked at the street and focused on driving. Sometimes he looked back through the rearview mirror in front of him and exchanged glances with Varen.

“Down us at the intersection only.” pinta Reina with hoarse voice.

“Hah? Junction?” rework Varen and Felic together.

Reina woke up from her husband's embrace and looked at Varen with a smile. “I need some fresh air. I just want to walk to the house.” he said.

Varen glanced at his watch which already showed it at eleven o'clock in the evening. “Reina, it's almost midnight. You are also not feeling well.”

Reina squeezed Varen's hand while looking at him with teary eyes. Asking Varen to follow his wishes. Finally, Varen felt helpless and could only sigh slowly. “Alright.” he said softly.

A smile appeared on Reina's face.

“Please drop us at the intersection only. Thank you for driving us.” said Varen again.

“No problem really. I'm happy to be able to help you both.” said Felix then stopped his car right at the intersection of the road that leads to Varen's house. Then Varen got out of the car first and he helped Reina out. He took Reina's bag and tore it up. Because it was almost midnight the streets looked deserted.

There are only a few rice stalls on the side of the road that are still open and some vehicles that pass by. The streets look empty.

“Let's go home.” Reina said as she stepped in with her right hand tied to her husband's left hand.

“Wait!” Varen.

Reina turned her head and suddenly Varen let go of her hand. Reina's heart immediately felt like it was a loss. But a second later, Reina was surprised when Varen put her jacket on.

This incident reminded him of the first night they spent on the streets.

“Other times I will bring you a coat.” said Varen as he pulled up the zipper of his jacket and folded the long sleeves of the jacket in Reina's hands.

“Lain times.” grunts Reina in a slow voice.

“Why you?” varen asked, looking at Reina's grim face.

Reina shook her head in a doldrums,

“Last-lately I've heard the word too many other times. So I repeated the word.”

“Oh really? Sorry then I promise I'll bring you a coat every time I pick you up.”

Reina did not respond, she held Varen's hand again and stepped back. Silence was happening between them. Only the sound of their footsteps and the sound of passing vehicles.

The closer the house, the more the atmosphere of the night feels very quiet. Varen turned his head and looked at Reina's focused face looking ahead.

He wanted to break the silence but he was confused what to say. Varen is not a man who is good at talking especially to women. Feeling that she was being noticed made Reina look over.

She smiled sweetly at her husband, and the smile on Varen's lips expanded. Her chest was pounding because of the sweet smile Reina gave her.
