CHAPTER 61. THE CHILDHOOD STORY

Indira grabs her daughter-in-law's hand, “Varen! Reina is a good girl. Since childhood he never complained about us. We love her very much. So we hope you don't waste Reina.” Indira honestly expressed her wish to Varen. Only in this way could Reina be safe from Elora's interference.

“You were a bad husband and useless daughter-in-law when you became Elora's husband. But now we hope you can take responsibility for Reina. Be a good husband to her. We won't hesitate to take Reina back if you hurt her.” timpal Chandra.

“I won't hurt Reina. Never will and I promise I will look after and protect him.” Varen said quickly.

Varen was even surprised by the promise that had just been thrown out of his mouth. Somehow she said that but hearing her in-laws would take Reina away from her made Varen's heart feel uneasy.

“Reina is my wife. I will protect her and protect her with all my heart. You can hold my word.” said Varen confirmed his promise.

Chandra and Indira looked at each other and felt relieved. “Good. We believe but we will keep an eye on you.” said Indira.

Varen exhaled lightly, she was relieved to hear her in-laws words. Hearing Reina would be taken away made her heart unwilling.

“Varen, maybe you don't remember but we've known you since childhood. We also know your father, he's a very nice man. He used to entrust you to us.” said Chandra.

Varen furrowed his brows, he doubted the words of his in-laws. He had absolutely no recollection of having met Indira and Chandra Hasena before.

Indira nodded her phone like she was looking for something. He gave his phone to Varen. “You were a shitty kid. Every time your father leaves you at home, you always make Reina cry. You are very happy to disturb him, grab his toys until he cries.” Indira said.

Varen stared at the photo her mother-in-law gave her. The photo shows her young self fighting over a robot toy with a girl with a butterfly hairpin that looks younger than her. “This girl?” asked Varen while frowning.

“She Reina! You always fight over toys every time you meet and you always won't budge on them. Mama remembers first mama had to exchange your toys with pencils and picture books belonging to Reina.”, said Indira while smiling warmly.

Varen tries to remember about Reina but she doesn't remember anything from her childhood.

Indira shifts her phone screen, “This is the photo when you made Reina fall off her bike. Reina was too small to ride a bike but you forced her to ride a bike. After that you push the bike until Reina falls and cries.” Indira recounts. In the photo, a girl is seen crying because of her elbow wound and forehead.

“If this photo is when you were injured for saving Reina from a neighbor dog bite. Maybe the wound is still impregnated.” said Indira as he looked at his daughter-in-law's hand. He smiled when he found a bite scar on Varen's hand.

“So we've known each other for a long time?” asked Varen while touching the scar on her hand.

Indira nodded. “Iya true. Although you often make Reina cry, but she does not stop following you everywhere and you always take care of her. Mama remembers when your father's family took you away, Reina got sick for a week for missing you.” Indira said with a look of laughter.

Varen smiled at the picture of her injured being hugged by a crying girl.

“You and Reina have been close since childhood. No wonder you get along so quickly. Now Reina is your wife and your responsibility. We leave him to you but remember we won't hesitate to take him if you hurt him.” Chandra said.

“I will be and protect Reina well.” said Varen without hesitation.

“Good Pa!” sahut Varen's.

Indira also rose from her seat and hugged her daughter-in-law. “Thank you for taking good care of Reina. We trust him in you. We go first.”

Varen stiffened, he rarely got such a warm hug so he just silently stared not back at his in-laws.

“Do not hesitate to contact us if you need anything. But we hope you keep all our conversations a secret from Reina. Let him treat his heart first.” said Chandra Hasena while patting Varen on the back.

“Good, pa, ma.” sahut Varen nodded.

Chandra Hasena and Indira meet Reina in her room to say goodbye without waking her up. They kissed Reina's forehead alternately and left the house.

When the car drove Indira looked at her husband and said, “Pa, do we not need to tell him about the real reason for the match? About that debt?”

“For what ma? Whatever the reason is now Varen has become Reina's husband and our daughter-in-law. Uncle Saskara's problem is none of our business. Don't say anything but Varen himself who asked.” said Chandra Hasena.

“Good, pa.” Indira says.

By late afternoon, Varen was still busy doing his work because his wife was sick, he was forced to finish his work at home.

“It looks like there is a price difference in the purchase of the first and second building materials. Get the audit team to check it out but do it secretly.”

Varen was on the phone when Reina came out of the room with her pale face. “Do asap. Remember not to let this news leak.” Varen hastily disconnected his phone. He immediately got up and approached his wife and broke her down on the sofa.

“How are you feeling now? Still nauseous?” varen asked, looking at his wife's face while sticking her palm. Varen's face wrinkled as she felt Reina's still hot body temperature.

“Mama papa is home? Why are they rushing home?” reina asked in a trembling voice regardless of Varen's question.

Varen was stunned, he felt confused as to what to answer. There was no way she would say that her in-laws were rushing home for fear that Elora would get angry and run amok. “Papa makes grilled coconut for you. I warm it for a while.” said Varen then got up and stepped into the kitchen.

Reina's tears were dripping as her husband left. He felt sad to find his parents had left without waiting for him to wake up. “I shouldn't have slept earlier.” his murmur sobbed.

Before long, Varen came to bring him a grilled green coconut. “Minum!”

Without being asked twice, Reina grabbed a straw and drank the coconut water Varen held. As soon as the coconut water passed through her throat, Reina again shed tears of thought for her father and mother.

UHUK! UHUK!! UHUKK!!!

Reina coughed then released her straw while keeping her mouth shut. Reina lowered her face because she did not want Varen to know that she was crying. Reina was shocked when suddenly Varen hugged her tightly.

“There I am here. You do not need to be sad, I will always take care of you.” said Varen.

Reina also returned Varen's embrace and cried.
