Chapter 39. Two Knife Eyes.
Nindi could not cover up her surprise when she heard Ezra's words, as did Abbas and Keanu who were still sitting on their faces.
"Divorce?" nindi asked in disbelief. She knows if Ayun must have suffered so much from Evan and her sister's affair, she thinks maybe the woman's and her husband's relationship will improve when she asks Sherly to stay away from them. However, he never thought that Ayun would get a divorce.
"True," Ezra replied softly, his head nodding confirming Nindi's remark. "I know that mom is taking care of the files that need to be prepared, but she doesn't know how or how to process them. I'm the same, no one wants to guide mom, because all this time the one who takes care of all the business is dad." Evidently.
During this time, his mother only knew how to take care of the house and the family. For affairs outside the house, then his father all takes care of. Even if there is an important meeting at school, then the father leaves because he is afraid that his mother does not understand.
"But why would your mother want a divorce? What, is that decision right?" Nindi asked softly.
Ezra nodded back. "For what else do you survive when you're not in love? Even my father never defended my mother."
Ezra's words felt like two knives slashing their hearts. The first knife cut their hearts as parents, thinking about how the child felt when he saw his parents separated.
Then, the second blade is to cut their conscience because the divorce occurred due to the affair of a very close person. How could they be happy when they hear it?
"Since I've known that you're not too close to your mother, you mean just a husband and wife who live together. But, I just realized that it's all because she loves other women, while my mother has devoted herself to her. Isn't that so unfair?" lirih Ezra's. Tears have bred the river in the eyes, but with all their strength held so as not to wet the face.
Instantly the atmosphere became tight and tense. Both Nindi, Abbas, and Keanu seemed at a loss as to how to respond to Ezra's request.
They are not unwilling, but they are worried that the Ezra family will blame them, and return to bad thinking if they intend to include Sherly into the family.
"Sit down, you'll get tired if you keep standing" Abbas said with a drawn gaze toward Ezra.
Ezra stepped out his legs with a shunt and sat back in his place. He lowered his head, fearing to be so close to Abbas.
"I'll get a lawyer ready for your mother, will that be enough?" abbas said with great emphasis, making Ezra immediately raise his head, then look at Abbas with a dumbfounded look.
Nindi who heard the words of the father stared in disbelief. "But Pa, this-" He couldn't continue his words because the father gestured for silence.
"Prepare a lawyer for Swing, Ken. And get the lawyer to see Papa" Abbas ordered his son-in-law.
"Good, Pa." Keanu nodded his head without asking with the decision his father-in-law made, he was always confident in whatever the in-laws said.
Ezra immediately thanked Abbas who was willing to help his mother. Tears could not stand him, because he felt happy to be reunited with good people like them.
"I'm really very grateful to you, Sir. I will never forget this kindness of yours forever" Ezra said with a happy face. His pure gaze made Abbas smile.
"Call me grandfather, consider it in return for my help," asked Abbas, turning his face to the side, embarrassed.
Ezra fell silent upon hearing Abbas' request. He felt really very surprised, how could a person as rich and wise as Abbas tell him to call grandfather? He really felt inappropriate.
Ezra gasped when he heard Abbas's voice again. "Of course I would, sir. But I feel unworthy." He felt inferior, especially when remembering how his father behaved.
"All humans are worthy. So there is no need to think like that" Abbas denied. The position of man according to him is the same, no one is low and high.
"Well, Grandpa" said Ezra timidly. He used to call grandfather, but this time it felt special.
After he finished speaking to Abbas and all the middle-aged men's families, Ezra said goodbye to go home. He boarded a taxi after strongly rejecting Abbas's wish to drive him, there was no way he would bring the man back to a house like this.
After Ezra's departure, Nindi again questioned about the decision her father had taken, as well as saying the consequences they would receive if helping Ayun take care of the divorce lawsuit.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine" Abbas said gently as he rubbed the back of Nindi's hand, trying to calm his daughter down.
"But, what about mom, Pa?" ask Nindi. Since morning he did not see the whereabouts of his mother, even until now his father also did not hold a cellphone to contact the stepmother.
"Let it go, he's with his daughter. They must be happy when they hear the news about Ayun and Evan's divorce later, just look at it" Abbas said sharply. His eyes looked tense, and revealed that he was angry at this moment.
Nindi could only sigh harshly with what her father had already decided. He wishes that everything is fine, for Ayun and also for her family.
Upon arriving home, Ezra immediately searches for her mother into the room. However, his steps were forced to stop when suddenly his hand was strangled by someone.
"Where have you been, Ezra?" evan asked with a sharp look, holding his son's hand.
Ezra turned his face towards the father, then released his father's hand which was grasping at him.
"As for where I'm going, Father," replied Ezra sharply and with great emphasis.
"I am your father, Ezra. So keep your manners!" evan with the sarcasm. He then tried to calm himself down before re-igniting the commotion.
"Right, you're my dad. Adel's father, and also the father of the daughter."
