Not the Perfect Wife
175. S2 - Cancer

Nayla enters the doctor's office. There appeared a male doctor who was recording something in his book, with beside him a helpful nurse.

"Please sit down, ma'am," said the nurse.

"Thank you" Nayla said with a smile. Even though he is not okay now.

The woman's body felt cold. His clothes were already soaked with sweat. His two hands intertwined, trying to channel the unease he felt.

"With Nayla's mom?" ask a doctor named Jefri.

"Yes, right, Doctor."

"Come, come with me to the next room! We have to do some checks."

The doctor with the help of a nurse performed several examinations. Nayla had refused when she had to undress, to do USG, but the sister tried to understand if this was for her good and health so, it's okay.

Although heavy, the woman was finally willing to do the doctor's request. When Nayla finished, she returned to her seat. Waiting for the doctor to check the results.

"Sorry, where's your family?" ask the Doctor after returning with some sheets of paper in his hand.

"Work, Doctor."

"Did no one drive you?"

Nayla just shook her head. The doctor breathed a few times and exhaled slowly. He was confused what to say to his patients.

"Doctor tell me, am I ready to listen?" nayla said as if she knew the doctor's doubts.

"Look, Mom. After we had some tests on your body, it turned out to be true as I thought before, the mother had breast cancer and had spread to the lymph nodes and also the bones."

Nayla's world collapsed instantly. Even though he had expected all this before, still hearing the doctor say it directly made his life spirit crumble.

"Have you never felt pain before or anything else?"

"No, Doctor. I didn't feel anything before" Nayla replied. "Then can I still recover, Doctor."

"Seeing your current state of pregnancy, chemotherapy is not recommended for treatment, so for now it may be only painkillers that I can give. My advice later we're forced to have to get your baby out prematurely and continue with your treatment."

"What do you mean, Doctor?"

"I mean, your baby is forced to be born at seven months of age or the term is premature. So later at the age of seven months or two months we are forced to remove it and the mother can undergo chemotherapy."

Hearing the doctor's explanation further made Nayla's head rupture. It was too horrible on every path that would be taken, but he could not possibly just remain silent.

"Is it okay, for my son?" nayla asked with a look at Doctor Jefri. Hope this is the best way for her and her baby.

"It's okay, Mom. Many babies are born at seven months of age and they are healthy. Later we can consult first with the obstetrician and check the condition of the baby Mother Nayla. If possible then we'll have surgery as soon as possible."

In her heart she hesitated a little. She was afraid something would happen to her son. Moreover, Nayla also knows a lot about premature babies. The woman has been reading such articles since her pregnancy.

After this Nayla will find out for herself about the premature baby and also about his illness. He was sure there must be something the doctor hadn't told him.

In the afternoon Aydin came home from work. Nayla had sent a message, if she had gone home first with the reason of bored being in the boutique. The woman did not go there at all.

"Assalamualaikum," said Aydin when entering his apartment unit.

"Waalaikumsalam, has Mas gone home?" greet Nayla with a smile.

"Here you go, honey."

Nayla kissed the back of Aydin's hand which the man replied by peeping the woman's forehead. Embrace the body of the wife to sit in the living room.

"Why did you go home alone? 'And I told you, don't go anywhere yourself."

"Good, if they do, so I can calm down when you go there."

Nayla snorted annoyedly at her husband's words. Aydin just smiled looking at her.

"Oh, yes, dear. When is baby's checkup schedule?" ask Aydin.

"There's still one more week, Mommy."

"I can't wait to see how it goes."

"I'm also impatient." Nayla saw a smile on Aydin's face. How could she say about her condition when her husband's face looked so cheerful. It would definitely hurt the man a lot, but if Nayla did not say it, Aydin would also definitely still be hurt later, upon knowing it from someone else.

"Why are you looking at me like that, honey?" aydin asked with a frown.

"It's okay, I'm just happy. You look so happy."

"There is nothing happier with the presence of a baby. She's the most beautiful gift of my life, but you're more than anything."

"If you have to choose. Mas, choose who? Me or baby?"

"What are you talking about, honey? That's never gonna happen. I cannot choose between you, for you are my life. I don't know what my life would be like without you" Aydin replied. "Why did you suddenly ask such a thing?"

Aydin looked at his wife intently. He felt that there was something strange about Nayla's question. The man suspected that something had happened to the woman.

Nayla was wrong. She didn't want her husband to be suspicious, she was already trying to cover everything from Aydin. There will be a time when Nayla will tell you everything, but not now.

"You and baby are okay, right?"

"It's okay, Mom. I'm just asking."

"Are you all right?"

"Yes, I'll see the doctor just ask the gynecologist, when we check later." Aydin nodded, confirming Nayla's words. I hope the feeling isn't right about Nayla.

"Well, do you want to take a shower or eat first?" ask Nayla.

"Prand first, dong, dear."

"I'm ready for warm water first, yeah." Nayla will move. However, Aydin prevented it.

"No, I can do it myself." Aydin immediately passed entering his room to clean himself up.

While Nayla looked at the back of her husband who disappeared behind the door. A drop of tears re-wetted her cheek, immediately the woman wiped so that the husband could not see.

'Hopefully what I've decided is the best. I don't want you in trouble, choosing between me and baby. This has been my decision and I hope you also understand my choice.'

Nayla will move to the dinner table to prepare food for her husband. Suddenly his back hurt to make him sit back. The woman endured her pain, she covered her mouth so as not to make a sound.

This situation really made him tormented. It felt more painful than her shadow all along, with Nayla's limping steps walking towards the guest room and into the toilet so that her husband would not see her.
