Chapter 74 Promise

The palace witches are ready to fight Gerald's army. Rose stood in front to pin them down.

Gerald has arrived at the palace. The palace magicians had already prepared fireballs to attack the leader of the rebellion. Rose gave a warning to attack.

However, all of the palace witches had fallen because of the ice magic Rose had secretly launched. It is totally unthinkable that their leader, the betrayer. The end of their lives only came there. The nobles who relied on money to become palace magicians are gone.

Gerald easily entered the palace. Without a meaningful enough fight. He immediately headed for the throne room to meet Braun.

Rose defeated several palace knights. I hope Leticia and Judith are okay.

A room filled with knights brandishing swords. The sword was directed at the knight who protected a woman. 

Dean fended off and evaded the attacks from the palace knights. Leticia noticed the surroundings looking up as they let their guard down. The sword swing was about to injure Leticia. The First Empress could avoid it. Dean immediately attacked the knight killing him. 

That knight sword was near Leticia. Leticia picked it up. The knight who was there smiled wryly insulting Leticia. They all attacked Leticia and Dean simultaneously. Leticia dodged and counterattacked them. Dean drew a sword at his comrades-in-arms. However, no palace knight could be called a friend Dean.

Leticia and Dean can turn things around quickly. The First Empress wiped the blood splashed on her cheeks.

Dean's down. "What are we going to do about the Queen?"

"Protect me to the secret way out. Charlotte must have used that path to escape, ", Leticia said.

"Okay, Empress."

"Thank you, sir."

"I must thank the Empress for choosing me as a personal bodyguard over others from the nobility." Dean shakes.

Leticia remembered something. "That's why thank Rose. He's the one who made me choose you, sir."

"Empire Witch Leader?" A name Dean never expected.

"True, he convinced me to choose you. To be honest I was at a loss choosing which knights were reliable. He believes that you are a loyal, great and trustworthy person. Thanks to him I picked the right person." Leticia smiled wryly.

Dean was trying to dig up his memory. He had never met Rose before coming to the palace. How could Ross yaking about himself? Then was Rose interested in Dean before he became a knight?

"Sir?" Leticia resuscitates Dean from his daydream.

"I'm sorry, Empress. Did the Imperial Witch Leader ever tell you anything about me?"

"If it never is." Leticia was trying to remember.

"Thank you, Empress. Sorry, take up your time. Let's go. I'll protect you." Dean thought they weren't safe.

They came out of Leticia's room towards the Emperor's palace. That's where the secret passage is. The secret path led to the forest behind the palace. There was placed a guard so that if something happened to urge the imperial family to escape safely. They rushed over before Charlotte made it out of that way. 

Their path to the Emperor's palace was not easy. The palace knights were already stationed along the way by Braun in anticipation of Leticia escaping. Dean beat them one by one. Leticia protects Dean's wide-open back.

They had already arrived at the Emperor's palace. Many knights were standing guard at the door leading there. Dean attacked them. His sweat was pouring out and his body was already getting tired, but he had to stay strong to protect his Master. Leticia helped him.

Dean's arm scratched the sword of one of the knights. He could still defeat them with his remaining strength. That door is safe. Dean started to gasp.

"From now on let me come in from here, sir," Leticia ordered worried about the state of her bodyguards.

"No, let me protect you up that road, Empress." 

"I am still strong. My honor will be tarnished if it cannot protect you and escape, Empress."

Dean is still forced to protect Leticia. Leticia admired and appreciated his determination. In the end, Leticia gave up.

Dean smiles. Then they continued their journey towards the secret passageway which was at the end of the passageway near the Emperor's room.

More knights are standing guard there. Dean broke through to attack them. The clashing sounds of swords filled the hall. One by one the knights of the castle fell. However, Dean's injuries are getting more and more. 

Although there were still knights there, but the secret path was in sight. 

"The Empress quickly got in there!" shouted Dean.

Leticia knew what Dean meant, she intended to confront the knights here. Even with his bravery. 

"Thank you, sir," Leticia replied softly. 

Leticia immediately ran to the end of the hallway while being protected by Dean. He shifted the head of the statue that was on the side. The secret door is open. Leticia went in there. He turned around for a moment, hoping Dean could survive. He continued his steps to meet Charlotte.

Dean finished off the remaining knights. Due to the tiredness of possessing the body, he was unable to avoid the swing of the sword hitting his back. The pain immediately spread. Dean stood still to strike back at the knight.

Stay one on one. Dean clasped his sword tightly. His view is a little blurry. Blood flowed in his hands. But he still managed to defeat his enemy.

Attacks were launched but they managed to fend it off. The knight saw a gap in Dean. He managed to hit Dean's side of the stomach.

Dean strikes back by unsheathing the sword into his opponent's stomach. He won against them all. Unable to master his fatigue anymore, he collapsed. His sight is getting blurred.

Dean remembers his childhood. He used to meet little girls who had no parents. They promised to meet in the square every afternoon. I don't know why he forgot the girl's face.

"What are your goals?" ask the girl to him.

"I want to be a knight in the palace who can protect his Master," replied the excited Dean.

"Then you'll get out of here" said the girl sadly.

"That's for sure, but every once in a while I'll come back here." Dean tried to cheer the girl up.

"I will miss you" said the girl.

Dean's heart was racing. He has liked that girl for a long time. He also knew that the girl liked him, but they were still small. Maybe one day their feelings change. However, if the girl was willing to wait for him and their feelings remained the same, Dean would be happy.

"If I go back and become a great knight. Will you be with me forever?" 

The girl's face was red. He knew it was a statement of love. The girl nodded. Smile on his face. 

Now Dean smiled remembering that. However, his smile soon faded.

The girl did not come the next day. For a week the girl did not come. Dean was worried something happened to the girl asking people who might know her. However, no one knew the whereabouts of the girl. Perhaps the girl had died of starvation or was living happily with someone else. 

Dean gave up on never coming back to that place. He tried to forget the girl by actively practicing being a knight. Finally the goal was achieved. There are still unanswered questions about Rose.

Dean's eyes opened wide while recalling the little girl's face. The girl's face was smashed with Rose's. Turns out that's the reason.

Dean regretted not recognizing her. Rose recognizes Dean and asks Leticia to make him a bodyguard. 

Dean's eyes are getting heavy. Awareness fades. Then he closed his eyes hoping that he would never take Rose off again when he met her.
