“This house and land certificates?” ask her again.
“Ya.”
“So, you gave it all after our last conversation?” I frowned half not understanding what father said. He looks upset at me.
“Did you forget you had a father? Why give it all to him?” Dad pointed annoyed at mom.
Sure was! It was obvious that they were fighting here because of the inheritance. What else is it? What else do I expect?
“I'm his mother! I've been taking care of her all this time, and what are you doing? You never met us never even gave living expenses to Icha and Daniel! Not a dime! And now, as for the inheritance, you came straight with him and your sick son? Ha ha's. Geez, you are shameless ya.” I replied annoyed at the three.
“A—I have rights! All this time Icha still thinks of me as her father! And don't insult Hanna like that!” Bela Davin's father.
At first glance, I saw Hanna who immediately looked down sad and aunt Marisa embracing her son's shoulder with a sad expression as well.
I let out a long sigh, this family drama feels like there is no end to it. Always turning like that too. I understand what it means for a father to come here with his wife and child, a strategy to get some of the inheritance from Aunt Rose by showing them they are suffering and need more than their mother. While the stubborn mother did not want me to share it because she felt entitled after taking care of me all this time.
“I know, all this time you used Icha! You always scolded her, blamed her all, and now, you want her inheritance too? You're the one who doesn't know shame!” Dad cursed back.
“Mas Davin, patience mas. Don't quarrel, it's late at night, shame on the neighbors.” Aunt Marisa rubbed my father's shoulder, trying to calm him down.
Mother clucked resentfully at the woman without lowering her sharp gaze from father.
I feel so ashamed because Bayu has to see all this. What was he thinking seeing me growing up in their conflict? Absolutely disgraceful!
From the corner of my eyes, I saw Bayu leaning his back on the back of the sofa, then he hugged my waist from behind and pulled me closer to him. I immediately glanced at him which actually made him pull me back so we both sat leaning back, as if watching a live drama in plain sight.
“What are you doing?” Whisper me, move my mouth as small as possible.
“You only need to watch it, Boo.” Bayu replied without turning his gaze to the father and mother who were still cursing.
Sighing a deep breath, I finally leaned back with Bayu's hand that had already moved to embrace my shoulder, then this man called Lucy with his hand, I could hear her voice as she whispered. “Please make a drink for them, whatever it is, whatever is available in the kitchen.”
Lucy nodded and without making a sound, the woman immediately stepped into the house looking for the kitchen.
“Let them argue until cape, because if you're the one now talking, they won't listen to what you mean and just want to hear what they want.” Whisperer Bayu.
I nodded, not making a sound. Thrust me as if locked up, too ashamed of him for watching their quarrel, especially for taking issue with the inheritance.
I didn't really listen to their debates, my mind was busy floating around looking for answers to their demands, however, they were my parents, at least I knew them as family figures, she said,
mom and dad.
My eyes also occasionally glanced at Aunt Marisa and Hanna still with a sad expression, the two women sometimes glanced at us.
I could feel cold sweat appearing on my neck and forehead. In fact, I am still not used to dealing with mothers and fathers like this. Now I also feel my stomach a little sore from the stress of thinking about them. This is one of my weaknesses that I want to hide in front of Bayu, but this guy is in
beside me now.
“I'm still his father! I deserve my share! You've been charged by Icha, now I need more for my child's health costs!” My father's loud voice broke my daydream.
It turned out that Lucy had already put down six drinks, each for us, a teabag that was still warm. The fragrance smelled and a small smoke came out from all the glasses on the table. Apparently Lucy's actions managed to stop their debate for a moment.
I immediately grabbed one of the glasses, hoping that with warm water, my stomach ache would improve.
“Come! Please at drink.” I said because the four of them just turned to look at my movements.
“Thank you, Lucy.” I said before sipping this tea. Lucy gave a short nod and again stood beside Dika.
“Icha! Anyway mom won't leave this house before you tell her that the legacy you want to love all to mom won't be shared with her!”
“Can't do that! Legally, I am also entitled!”
“Law? You want to speak the law before us after all this time you abandoned us?!”
“Icha, how is this? What to do?” Aunt Marisa asked me.
“This is all my fault, if I am not sick, I will not trouble father and mother, I will have a steady job to make them happy.” Hanna's voice trembled, she looked down sad which was immediately given a mouthful of aunt Marisa's affection. Then Hanna suddenly looked up and touched Dad's arm to let him look at her.
“Dad don't fight constantly. What if I work too?” Hanna's proposal that makes dad more upset.
“Work? I'm telling you, you don't think about work, most importantly your health! You must immediately operate, if you have the certainty that your body is healthy, you want to find work, father must support.” Obviously father. His eyes looked attentive and affectionate. I can't remember when Dad looked at me like that.
“Dad don't worry! Icha I consider my brother, he must take care of me. I can go to work with him. I'll be fine with Icha. Right ‘kan, Cha?” Hanna looked at me expectantly.
For a moment, I didn't know what to answer but I sensed he was throwing a bomb at me. If I say no, you must think of me as an evil child for not thinking of her sick daughter as my brother, but if I say yes, they will sue me even more, maybe if Hanna relapses, maybe, I was blamed.
“I will definitely try hard to help you Cha. So you don't have to worry—“
“Then what is the benefit for Icha?” Bayu's cold-pitched question to Hanna silenced their quarrel.
“What benefits?” Hanna looked at Bayu.
The man then straightened his back before answering. “What is the benefit Icha should be in charge of your career?”
