Everyone is very busy at home. Neighbors, families and distant relatives flock to the house to help.
They help make a typical wedding cake in the village, help peel onions or other kitchen spices for the day.
Everything was going well and planned. For the bride and groom, they are not allowed to leave the house until the wedding day comes. Their job is only one, stay home and do nothing. This is a tradition in their village and this tradition has been since many years ago.
In essence, they run everything according to the traditions of their ancestors in this village.
But there is something different today because suddenly their village chili and rice boss, Pak Daman, came home with his son, Adit.
Adit looked handsome in his best clothes today. That charming, parched face has attracted the attention of many girls in the village. However, his arrival was quite electrifying to make people ask, how did Adit and Mr Daman come to the house of the bride and groom?
Then, a rumor emerged in the village if Asri has an intimate relationship with Adit. Because they are in a boarding school and do not rule out the possibility of love there.
"Sir Daman, please come in." He rolled out a plastic mat on the cement floor.
Ask Mom to make coffee and tea for their important guests who have come a long way to visit.
"Thank you, sir." Mr. Daman has always been a friendly and generous person in the village.
He and Adit sat unruffled on the mat without awkwardness or embarrassment.
"I'm not going to talk anymore, sir. The point of our arrival here is to propose to Asri for my son, Adit." As soon as these words fell everyone in the house instantly fell silent.
Neighbors, relatives, or family stared at each other in confusion hearing an impromptu proposal from Mr. Daman.
"Adit want to marry my daughter?" I asked not to believe.
"Really, Sir. I want to marry the princess, Father." This is the answer from Adit.
Once again they were astonished after hearing Adit's words. The serious and convincing expression of Adit made them immediately believe that Adit was very serious to come here to propose to Asri.
I looked at Mr. Daman and Adit was unsure.
Mr. Daman knows about this news. How not, once Asri returned home, the merchant Romlah immediately announced to the villagers if his son would soon marry Asri in the near future.
"I know, sir, and that's why I brought my son here." Said Mr. Daman while patting Adit on the back.
Adit returned to the village at dawn after hearing from Ratna that Asri had stopped school at the cottage without giving a clear reason. Adit initially wants to meet with Asri and give him something but does not expect that bad news he received.
Though he still met and talked to Asri this afternoon. Adit felt a bad feeling. Not wanting to waste time he went to the male dormitory staff office to borrow a phone and contact his family in the village.
Mr. Daman said that Asri had returned home with his father, Adit was immediately relieved to hear it. But only a few seconds because the next words of Mr. Daman make Adit immediately numb.
Asri stopped from the boarding school and returned to the village to pay off his family's debts to the merchant Romlah. Asri inevitably had to marry the son of a Roman merchant who was famous for making troublemakers and drunk.
Adit was heartbroken, that same night he asked for permission to go home to his village and was only allowed last morning because the night was late.
And here it is now. Sitting in front of Mr. Asri with a seriousness that is not made up. He really seriously wanted to marry Asri and also wanted to save Asri from this forced marriage.
"Sir, please do not sacrifice the daughter, Father, to pay off the debts. I'm willing to pay all those debts as long as you cancel this marriage and accept my son's proposal." Mr. Daman gives a way out that Father and Mother expect from far away. But isn't it too late?
They made an appointment last night and you signed it on the letter of agreement that the Roman merchant filed last night.
If they break the agreement, they can be thrown in jail.
"I'm sorry, sir. I can't do that because last night I signed a letter of agreement with Miss Romlah. If I break it then Miss Romlah can sue me in court." He refused help which had by itself given a helping hand.
It was a pity indeed but they could not do anything because the contract agreement had already happened.
"Excession! Isn't this called coercion!" Mr. Daman is angry.
Though angry they could do nothing because they knew well who the Roman merchant was. She is calculating, stingy, and unafraid to spend money to free her son from prison if caught by the police.
