A soldier bearing a legendary white field with a black cross on it marched through the city of Suhl; the Teutonic Order was close to Bavaria. After stopping at Suhl, and resupplying the army would advance forward through the Bavarian Alps and onto Tyrol, where they would flatten the Berengar lands to the ground. Or at least that's the plan. Currently, the Teutonic Order was deploying as many people from the city as possible into their army. Old or young, as long as they were able to carry weapons, they were stripped of the cities the Teutonic Army visited and placed into their ranks as levies.
In the middle of town, a scene is shown on its own when a thirteen-year-old boy is dragged from his mother's arms and dragged into a new levy line. The mother pleaded with tears to the knights who had taken her child, but for all her efforts, the woman was only rewarded with a quick kick to the belly, which she received, dropped him to his knees as he cried in misery. Throughout this city and every village, the Teutonic Order has found similar scenes like this have become the norm. The cruelty of the Teutonic Army under Lambert's command knew no bounds, and they even willingly slaughtered the families of those who refused to join their great crusading service.
Though this village was different from the other villages they passed before. When the cruelty of the Teutonic Order is displayed for the villagers to see, some of them begin to gather. The townspeople quickly formed a mob that began to berate the Teutonic warriors who forcibly took their sons and fathers from them. What began as peaceful protests quickly resulted in full-scale unrest. The townspeople began to push and push the soldiers of the Teutonic Order and throw the produce and dirt at them.
Things begin to spiral out of control when Lambert arrives on horseback; seeing the lowly peasants dare to defy his orders, Lambert gets off his horse and takes off his large basket revealing his charming face for all to see. The solution to this problem was simple; he would preach how God willed for the people of this village to start a holy war to eradicate the heretics in Tyrol. The Berengar Reformation had already begun to spread rapidly; the words of Berengar's rapid conquest of Tyrol had spread rapidly and had been regarded as a sign of divine retribution against Lothair's traitors. However, Lambert was more concerned with bringing down his brother and ending his rise to power than fulfilling his duty to end Berengar's heresy as a whole.
Therefore, he took a diplomatic approach and approached the angry masses, trying to calm them down with a sermon.
"Citizen Suhl, I understand your grievances, but our Order is a mission from the Pope himself! We need the help of every man and young man who is able to take up arms to bring down the wretched Berengar Heresy that has begun to entrench in these lands. .Only by beheading the serpent known as the Cursed Berengar can the will of the Lord be restored to these lands."
Lambert did not know that many of the town's inhabitants were later known as German Reformers, and they had great respect for Berengar. Thus, a brave young man who looked like a rich merchant or his only son stood before the crowd and began to defend Berengar in front of the Teutonic Order, who had been assigned to eliminate him.
"Who are you to declare Berengar a heretic? I have read the Bible, which he has translated into our language, and given the ability to all people, regardless of their birth, the ability to understand the word of God! None of the views and views of Imam Ludolf are contrary to the teachings of Christ as written in the scriptures, because many claims of the Catholic Church are not written in the words of the apostles or Christ himself! Berengar was a godly and enlightened man who acted against ecclesiarchy's corruption, and to that end, you all want to silence him! Are you innocent?"
"Go, you bad guys!"
With this action, something jolted in Lambert's mind, and he instinctively gripped the hilt of his sword where he quickly unsheathed his sword with a smooth slashing motion; he beheaded a child no older than eight years. The child's head slowly rolled on the floor as blood spurted onto Lambert's white tabard. A loud scream filled the air, courtesy of the child's mother, who had just witnessed her own son being decapitated before her eyes.
Horrified and enraged by Lambert's actions, the mob quickly clashed with the Teutonic Order's army; the; they no longer think rationally and have decided at a hot moment to uphold justice on this fully armed and trained army. Seeing that the mob had taken up arms against him, Lambert sneered in disdain and gave the command over the crowd's cries to the people under his command.
"The village is full of heretics, kill them all and burn the city to ashes! God willed!"
Despite watching their commander kill a child in cold blood, none of the Teutonic Order's fanatical soldiers cared, because, in their minds, the little boy was a heretic and deserved his fate. Instead, they all took up their weapons and started slaughtering the townspeople. Their victims could see the fanatical zeal contained in their eyes as the crusaders chanted their war songs over and over again.
"God wills!"
With that, the entire population of Suhl was slaughtered, their city burned to the ground, and the perpetrators confiscated their grain and livestock. In the morning there will not be a single living soul within the confines of the once haughty city; only blood and ashes remain.
