No Father Should Execute His Own Son

Berengar was standing in a room alone with his mother, Gisela. Baronness was already quite satisfied with Berengar's relationship with Linde and was currently confronting his eldest son about his mistake. She looked at her son with a scornful expression on her graceful face. He was slightly taller than her, however, this did not prevent him from glancing into her gemstone-like sapphire eyes. There was a degree of arrogance in her baby boy gaze that caught the mature beauty off guard as she lectured him.

“Until now, I have endured your little adventure with that vile woman because I thought you would be fed up with her company, and I could use it as an excuse to get rid of vixe* for good. Now I can understand he dug his paws into you two brothers."

Berengar could not help but laugh at his mother's words; he made it seem as if he was being manipulated by Linde when he was actually an obedient bu*ak. This laughter did not assuage his mother's anger as he continued glaring at his own mischievous son.

"What's so funny?"

Berengar knew that his mother was furious with his behavior, but he would never let her get rid of her favorite toy. Therefore, an evil grin spread across his lips as he sneered at his mother's ferocious look.

"Linde didn't stick her claws on me, as you said. In fact, the situation is just the opposite. She complied with my every wish and wish like an obedient little girl. It's true that he approached me, but I was the one who dominated in this relationship. I have no plans to get rid of her any time soon, as she has proven to be an excellent concubine. Plus, as I'm sure you'd guess, the child inside him is mine. has."

She had no problem revealing this information to her mother, the woman had long suspected this to be the truth, and she knew the woman would never betray her. Blood was thicker than water, and regardless of his opinion of Linde, he would not embarrass his family's reputation by making such information public.

However, Gisela's reaction was beyond her expectations; she slapped Berengar's cheek and punished him for his behavior.

"Do you know how embarrassing you are! You have deceived your own brother and impregnated his fiancee! He will never forgive you if he knows this fact."

Berengar held onto his cheek, which was flushed from the impact; he felt humiliated by the attack but could hold back his rising anger. After all, he would never hurt his own mother. After calming himself down, he sighed deeply before revealing the truth of Lambert's scheme to his doting mother.

"It was an appropriate punishment for the crimes of my seemingly pious younger brother ..."

Gisela looked at Berengar strangely; in her tone Lambert had done something unforgivable to her, but he would never have imagined that the two brothers were so estranged that they conspired against each other's lives.

Berengar took a few moments to set his mind as he paced the room, trying to figure out the best way to tell his mother about his own brother's direct act of betrayal. After a while, he stopped in the middle of the room and looked at his mother with a grim look.

"He tried to kill me... On three separate occasions that I know of, two of them barely made it."

Gisela was shocked by the news and faltered as she knelt while holding her aching heart. Berengar saw her doing so and quickly rushed to support the woman. There was a few minutes of silence between the two as the loving mother thought of various things in her head. With this news, a lot of confusing things in the past started to make sense. In the end he would not just trust Berengar's words and end up breaking the silence when he managed to recover his determination.

"Can you prove this?"

Berengar nodded his head with a serious expression on his face; his mother knew that the child was not lying with the look of his eyes. However, he would not believe it until he saw the evidence himself. Therefore, he demanded to see her immediately.

"Show me the proof!"

So Berengar opened the door and took his mother to his room, where he took out a ledger, a letter, and a written and signed testimony from Ser Ingbert. Berengar had gone to great lengths to hide and secure these items. Therefore, it took him a while before he could bring them into his mother's hands. These three items contain key authentication about all three attempts Lambert made on Berengar's life.

When his mother read all the evidence Berengar had gathered against his brother, he sat on his bed in silence for a few minutes. What Berengar said was true, and the evidence he held in his hands was enough to convict Lambert on charges of attempted brother murder and treason. It took some time for the woman to regain consciousness before she asked Berengar the most important question in her mind.

"Why don't you bring this to your father's attention?"

Berengar's expression softened as he looked at his mother with great pity and empathy. He could not imagine the pain and suffering he was going through, knowing that his second son had attempted to kill his older brother not once or twice, but three times it could be proved. Therefore, Berengar knelt down and held his mother's trembling hand with his own while looking at her soft, teary-eyed eyes, and voiced his deepest thoughts on the terrible questions asked by his loving mother.

"No father should execute his own son ..."
