After completing his meeting with Count Otto, Berengar discovers that he now has unlimited free time; therefore, he quickly searches for Adela, who is, where he intended to spend the day playing around with her. He rarely had as much free time as he did while making this diplomatic visit; therefore, he intended to make the most of it.
After crossing the hallway looking for Adela, Berengar soon found himself face to face with Wolfgang, who did not have the most pleasant expression on his face. Instead, he looked at Berengar with an intense angry gaze, as if his heart contained Tartarus flames in its depths. Berengar could tell from the look on his face that Ava had said something; therefore, he met Wolfgang's angry gaze with a condescending grin.
Wolfgang, however, noticed Berengar's expression and immediately assumed it meant his mistake when he approached Berengar and tried to lock his collar, but before he could do so, he did, Berengar had grabbed the man's wrist and tied it to the wrist which forced him to kneel as he grimaced in pain.
Although Berengar was by no means an experienced grappler, he had undergone basic combat training in the Army during his past life, and therefore knew some tricks, which he could use to subdue opponents. As Berengar pressed down on the key he held firmly, he began punishing the man for his violent efforts.
"You know Wolfgang; it's impolite to attack your boss for no reason; you have to study your place!"
On the other hand, Wolfgang retorted verbally to Berengar, especially on his claims of superiority; if anything, in Wolfgang's eyes, he was superior because he was born in the Count position, he was superior, it is not a beginner who takes advantage of the crisis in the world.
"excellent? Don't make me laugh! You are just a lowly Baron who has risen through the ranks by profiting from the war that ravaged our land!"
Berengar's tongue was as sharp as ever; if anything, the words he spoke next hurt the man struggling in his grasp far more than the pressure from the wrist lock.
"However, I'm able to defend my land, where you hide in your wife's homeland, letting your brother fight for you. Now, why don't you tell me the reason that would cause a man in your position to attack me once you see my charming face?"
Wolfgang had no desire to explain his anger to Berengar, a man he considered a depraved and immoral tyrant. So he responded with vulgarity.
"Go fuck yourself!"
After hearing this stereotypical response, Berengar sighed before finishing the wrist lock, where he broke the man's wrist mercilessly. Berengar had learned his lesson about showing compassion to those who sought to harm him; therefore, he was ruthless with how he decided to handle the situation.
After a loud crack sound rang through the cold stone passage, followed by a wail that sounded as if it came from an injured pig, Berengar let go of the man and let him wallow in his tears on the tile below. Berengar stared coldly at the current Prince of Salzburg before warning the man.
"I'll remember your attempt to hurt me today. When I finally liberate your land from the Bavarians, I will make sure that your brother and not you named Prince of Salzburg. If you come again to me, you will find yourself buried six feet below, in an unmarked grave! Don't test me..."
With that brief exchange, Berengar walked away from the man lying in a fetal position while holding onto his broken wrist. Berengar did not think of his cruelty; after all, men like Wolfgang were neither clever nor strong enough to harm him. If anything, he was lenient in responding to the man's violent actions. A broken wrist is not at all a severe injury and will heal itself in time.
While Berengar walked out of the scene confidently, the Castle guards quickly responded to Wolfgang's wailing voice and dragged him to the Palace Physician. Meanwhile, Berengar continues his journey in search of Adela, and when he finally finds the girl, he sees her wearing a white and gold dress while playing the harp.
Wearing such luxurious clothes, with a calm expression on his face as he closed his eyes and put on the harp lock, almost made Berengar believe that he was actually an angel, not a human. Nevertheless, she knew such a thing was impossible and almost stood up and waited for the teenage girl to finish performing the song she was playing.
Adela was completely unaware that Berengar had arrived and was leaning on a pillar listening to the sound of his music, and thus continued for a while before stopping, where she let out a short sigh before opening her eyes and seeing her fiance staring with a smile full of admiration, and respect.
The petite beautiful girl with golden hair and gemstone-like sapphire eyes quickly began to blush in embarrassment when she realized her fiance had been listening to her the entire time; however, what happened next shocked her. As Berengar slowly began clapping before rising into full applause. The next words continued to add to his embarrassment.
"I have to admit that I'm a bit embarrassed as your fiancee. To think that you have such a talent in the art of music, and I didn't realize it all along. I must say that I doubt even an angel in heaven can perform in such a way. !"
Adela could barely see Berengar while in a state of confusion; her cheeks were as red as roses upon hearing his praise. It had been so long since she had last seen Berengar before she arrived in Graz that she was so worried about him, now seeing him with a blindfold, she said, she realizes that she has suffered in her absence while she remains locked in the Castel of Graz like some form of fairy tale princess.
"You've suffered so much during my absence, haven't you?"
Berengar wanted to bully through his statement, but in truth, life became a bit difficult as he lost the use of his right eye. As the young girl looked at him with empathy and compassion, she finally lost control of her hardened face and smiled bitterly as a grim expression covered her handsome and scarred face, doing that, she said, he nodded, which confirmed Adela's suspicion.
So she hugged Berengar tightly in an attempt to comfort him before looking at him with an adorable yet curious look.
"Can I see it?"
Berengar instantly knew what he meant, and because of that, he quickly released his grip before putting his hand on his blindfold and slowly lifting it from his head. Although his right eye was closed, it finally opened, revealing a whole but scarred eye. The ugly wounds that initially existed in the early days of the injury were replaced with vertical scars that connect the gap between the scar parts above and below his eyes.
Adela held her breath during the slow disclosure, but now that she had seen Berengar's wound, she realized that it wasn't as bad as she thought; therefore, it was, he let go of his breath before trying to comfort Berengar by praising his performance.
"It wasn't as ugly as I expected; I thought it gave your charming appearance the character of a tough veteran in battle!"
Berengar chuckled bitterly in response to his words before expressing his deepest thoughts.
"It's not appearance that bothers me; it's how difficult it is to function normally. I still can't climb to the frontlines of the battlefield like I used to. Instead, I should let my commander lead my troops into battle while I sat down from afar like a coward. Tell me, Adela, how can I be a great man who inspires people to follow him into battle if I'm not capable of such a thing?"
Adela finally understood what her fiance had been eating all this time; berengar was the type of person to look up to. Right now, a war raged on his borders, but instead of leading an attack, he sat down in Kufstein while eating a sumptuous meal while drinking the best beer and wine.
Despite this, his army had to endure an onslaught of enemies determined to take down his territory. For Berengar, there is nothing worse in this era, where fighting mainly takes place in close quarters than hiding away from a war zone that allows your troops to fight in your stead. To him, it was an act of cowardice, and because of that, he felt that he was a coward in his actions.
After hearing Berengar's worries about his current position, Adela smiled brightly as she told Berengar about what he really thought about her.
"What makes you great is not only related to your victories on the battlefield or how you lead your people into battle. But mostly because of the costs you incur to ensure that your people benefit from your conquest and wealth. You profit."
Adela paused for a moment to gather her thoughts and then continued her words about Berengar and how she and many of his supporters looked at him.
"What you've done to Kufstein, what you did to Tyrol, and potentially one day even the whole of Austria is something that no one else in this era can achieve. So you have suffered a minor setback, did you not tell me that Alexander suffered? many deadly wounds, yet he always recovered to lead his army to further glory?"
Finally, he finished his speech with encouraging words to Berengar, who he would forever remember in the depths of his heart.
"You will recover from this, and when you do, all your enemies will remember the courage and fortitude you used to rally your army to victory!"
After hearing Adela talk about him in such a respectable light, Berengar instantly felt like a burden quietly hanging from his heart finally released his grip on it. Therefore, she thanked Adela by hugging her tightly into her arms and kissing her forehead before praising her.
"You're the perfect wife, do you know that??"
This response instantly made Adela blush as she quickly looked around to see if anyone was watching the romantic show; upon realizing that no one else was nearby, he finally relaxed and enjoyed the moment.
