When Love Should Determine

When Love Should Determine
Chapter 4

Today is Hamzah's last day of work, because the project he is working on is finished. That means Hamza won't get another job.

Of course Hamzah will not stay silent and stand idly by, he decided to go to sea with Iqbal, the older brother of Larissa who has his own fishing boat.

"Sister, tomorrow I'm going to go to sea with brother. My work is done, so I don't have any more work" Hamzah said as he watched Iqbal enter his room.

"OK!. We leave at three in the morning. I'll wake up if I leave!" answer Iqbal.

"Yes, brother, thank you!." Hamza then went into his own room. Then he took an envelope from behind the pocket of his work clothes earlier, then approached Larissa who was busy folding clothes. "Yank, this is my money yesterday. You keep it, yes. Please use it well" he said while thrusting the envelope earlier.

"Yes, yank. Thanks!."

"Oh yes, tomorrow I no longer work on the project, because the construction is finished. But you don't have to worry, I told brother iqbal to go to sea, and brother allowed."

"Yes, Yank. I will prepare for you. What time did you go to sea?."

"Around three o'clock in the morning. Later brother Iqbal will wake me up if I leave."

"All right!."

Silent moment.

"You're busy, aren't you?."

"What's up?."

"I'd like to have coffee."

"Oh, I'll make it, but I put these clothes in the closet first, yeah. You just rest!."

"All right! thanks a lot, yank!."

Hamzah also lay down on the mattress, while Larissa put the clothes she had folded into the closet. Then he went to the kitchen to make Hamzah a cup of coffee.

"Here, Yank the coffee!" larissa said while putting the coffee on the nightstand.

"Thank you!" hamzah answered, rising from his sleep.

Hamzah sipped the coffee, while Larissa continued other unfinished work.

...****************...

It didn't feel like they were married for a month. Larissa is able to set aside a little money to save, although not too much. And from those savings Hamzah plans to buy a motorcycle.

Hamzah also expressed his intention to Larissa. "Yank, I want to buy a motorcycle. How's it? you agree with me?."

"But our savings are not yet. Is it enough to buy a car?."

"So my friend told me he wanted to sell his motorcycle because he needed money. The price is also cheap."

"But what about his condition? is it still good?."

"So I see his condition is still good. I happen to be looking for that bike a long time ago. I used to wear it."

"You sure?."

"Very sure!."

Larissa sighed, giving in to her husband's wishes. "If that's up to you. But there's no harm if you check one more time."

"Yes, Yank. The plan is tonight I'd like to take Brother Iqbal to check once again."

Silent moment.

"Emh...Yank, can I ask you something?" asked Hamzah hesitatingly.

"What's wrong? just say!."

"Can't I borrow your necklace first. Just in case the money is less."

"Then you ask permission first with mom. Later if there is sustenance I will definitely change!."

"But, Yank..."

"I beg. I really want that motorcycle" Hamzah said expectantly.

Larissa took a breath. It was powerless to resist her husband's wishes. "Yes already. I'll try to talk to Mom. But I don't promise you that you'll allow it."

"Thank you very much, Yank. I'm really hoping for some good news from you!" hamzah said with sparkling eyes.

"Yes already! Now I want to make food first. It's time to open up."

Hamzah nodded his head in response.

Larissa passed to the kitchen to prepare an iftar meal, because it was the month of fasting.

Not long after Larissa after arranging the dish, the Maghrib adhan was reverberating, marking the time to break the fast for Muslims who practice fasting.

Larissa also invited Hamzah to break the fast together, and then continued with congregational Maghrib prayers.

After performing tarawih worship in the mosque, Larissa went to help her mother sell rujak, because during the fasting month like this they did open after breaking.

While Hamzah went to his friend's house that he said he would sell his motorcycle, of course this time accompanied by Iqbal.

When buyers began to decline, Larissa tried to express Hamzah's wishes earlier. And as expected, his mother disagreed with the plan. "No, I don't agree you sold the necklace. Your brother needs money, too. He wants to enlarge his boat."

"But, ma'am, didn't you ever tell me that this piece of jewelry I was wearing was mine. So what do I want to wear, right!"

"Fix, I disagree! Better now you lend your savings to your brother first. Later if there's sustenance, I'll buy you guys a better bike!."

Larissa was silent, she was very disappointed with her mother's decision. Because from a long time ago he always put his brother's wishes first. But how else, no matter how hard he tried, still his mother would not agree. She can only move on while hoping that her husband can understand her situation.

A few moments later Hamza came. He could not wait to hear if his mother allowed him to sell the necklace his wife was wearing or not. He immediately approached his wife who was relaxing behind the shop.

"Where, yank? Did you tell mom?" hamzah asked directly after he was near his wife.

"Already, yank!" answer Larissa flat.

"Keep, how did mom say? he agreed, right?" ask again with enthusiasm.

Larissa shook her head. "No, Yank. It doesn't agree!."

Hamzah looked very disappointed to hear the answer from his wife.

Momentary silence.

"Yank, I said Iqbal wanted to enlarge his boat. Mother asked to lend us our savings first to her. He said later the mother will replace by buying a better motorcycle if there is sustenance" said Larissa Lirih after a while of silence.

"But Iqbal never said he wanted to borrow money from us. Even when I checked the bike, he said nothing" Hamzah replied with a frown.

"Maybe he's embarrassed to say. He wants us to understand for ourselves. Especially this is what I asked for."

"It can't be, dong. If you want to borrow, say. How can we understand that he never said" said Hamzah annoyed. He did not like the way his mother-in-law and brother-in-law borrowed money.

"Tap, Yank...."

"If he wants to borrow money, tell him to talk! don't be this silent way. We also need money. Don't you feel sorry for me, you're on foot!" hamzah said a little emotionally.

"But mom promised to buy us a bike!."

"I'd rather buy it with my own sweat!."

Larissa chose to be quiet, not wanting to argue Hamzah's speech again. Because he knew, ' the more he denied, the more Hamzah was angry.

Hamzah also left Larissa who was hit by anxiety.
