POV Maiya
Reina was a good friend of mine since childhood. We spent a lot of time together. From the little things to the big secrets.
That day Reina told me that she got a scholarship to attend a favorite High School in the capital. Continuing college there too. It was no surprise considering he had been studying hard since childhood. All his hard work is now paid off.
Once he graduates from this school he will leave this city. Then what about me? I want to get out of this city too. I'll talk about this with Dad.
"Whatchu mean? You want to move to school out of town?"
"Yes, dad."
"Aren't you aware of your present values? Even without your father's help you won't be able to get into a good high school in this city, let alone in the capital!"
"But, dad. Let me try it first. How can I know if I don't try."
"If this semester's exam, you can get the best 10th place, I'll consider your request. But if you fail, you'll go to Dad's High School of choice. No more bargaining!" Dad immediately left to end our conversation without waiting for an answer from me.
There was obviously no way I could get into the top 10 in school. I'm not as smart as Reina or Arya. Not being in the last rank alone was already good. How do I get into the top ten? The exam is three days away.
At my friend's offer, I bought a leak of questions and answers that will come out in the exam later. Unfortunately, my intention was discovered by Reina.
Reina advised me not to cheat, but I ignored her. In the middle of the exam I was called the principal.
Someone has reported my cheating. Not just to the school but to my father. I scolded my father all-out. Dad always compared me to my three older brothers who made him proud. Compared to me who is only considered a troublemaker.
Thanks to my dad not getting kicked out of school. Instead I was locked up at home as punishment. The kids at school just know I'm sick. Dad won't let rumors about me spread and tarnish his good name as mayor.
The next day I had a fight with Reina. He was the only one who knew I was buying those things, it was only natural that I suspected him of reporting me to my father and principal. We had a big fight because he kept denying. I know I was wrong. But I'm disappointed he betrayed me by reporting me to dad.
Since he got the scholarship he started to change. I feel like he's getting away.
"Then, just make her lose her scholarship," suggested Yura, one of my classmates who was quite close to me. Yura also offered me to buy about the leak.
"How is it?" ask me who does not understand the advice he gives.
"If he makes a mistake or breaks the rules, his scholarship will be revoked, right?"
"That's right. But Reina was not a person who easily made mistakes let alone broke the rules. That's not possible."
"Then you do. You were the one with him the most. You know best when he's off guard."
"I? Nah! Nah! I can't do it!"
I, who was still carried away by the emotions of my anger, ate up the crazy idea without thinking about the impact. I thought it was a good opportunity to teach him a lesson so he wouldn't betray me.
I took her to the supermarket to shop together. Unbeknownst to him, I stuffed the store stuff into his bag using a handkerchief.
He was accused of stealing and taken to a police station. I didn't know that a classmate of mine who was in the same location as us knew what I was doing. He threatened me with a picture he took at the time.
My father who knew this did not remain silent. I don't know what he's doing, but the kid never shows up at school again. He's moving schools.
The least I thought of was Reina. He admitted to theft that was not committed. I know that behind all that there was a father's involvement.
"What did you do to Reina? I know you saw him before that. What did you tell him?"
"What do you think? I just asked him to admit everything. Or do you want everyone to know what you're doing? And make your reputation fall?"
"Dad, I don't want to mean it..."
"How many times have you told me, Maiya. Be careful with your behavior because everyone is watching you! Whatever you do not only affects you, but also your father's work and this family! You're not an ordinary boy! You're the son of a mayor."
Dad scolded me and locked me in my room. Dad also paid bail for Reina's release. Not just for me, but to keep his reputation. For him his reputation and the family's good name is more important than his own daughter.
After returning from school Reina had to experience bullying at school. And it was all done by the children on my behalf without my knowledge. If only Arya hadn't told me, I would never have known.
"I never told you to do this to Reina!!" I snapped mad at the kids who bullied Reina.
"But, Maiya, you sent us a message asking us to do it."
"I never sent you a message! Don't fabricate! Anyway from today per second you also stop your actions towards Reina, otherwise, I will destroy you all!" my threat.
Even though I threatened those children, it was all useless. The issue regarding Reina was widespread in the school even throughout the city. The student guardian also urged the school to remove Reina because it had defamed the school. We can no longer talk together.
I was confused how to explain this to him. He rarely goes to school. He always avoids me too. I know he's mad at me. She probably hates me and doesn't want to see me anymore.
Although I originally had this to keep him in this city and stay with me, as a result he got further and further away from me. My fault! All because of my selfishness. I'm the one responsible for what Reina's been through. If time could be repeated, I wouldn't do that stupid thing. Sorry, Reina!
A few days later I heard the news of his father's sudden death. His father died of a heart attack. When I came to his house, only one word was said to me.
"Pargis! Get the fuck out of here! I don't want to see you!" His face red with anger was drowned in the sobs of sorrow. I can't say anything to be forgiven.
In her eyes I was the one who had framed her, I was also the one who had led the suppression on her at school. Because of me he lost his scholarship and his father. Do I still deserve to be forgiven?
