Behind The Lies

Behind The Lies
After Magrib

Everyone gathers for dinner. The house was increasingly crowded with the presence of Iyash and Marissa. Initially Granny Alma and Juragan Hartanto accompanied Rania, granddaughter of her sister Granny Alma who had died. Then came Edgar who asked permission to rent a place there because he was doing research. However, Alma's grandmother refused the rent and allowed Edgar to stay there.

When everyone was about to start eating, Iyash was silent, even the plate was still empty and filled with nothing. He was not hungry, since noon he had already missed his lunch.  But it seems everyone has not realized the situation that can not eat with the right hand because it is still supported by arm sling.

“Yash, you don't eat?” ask Grandma Alma.

“Wear your left hand hard, Nek,” complained Iyash flat while glancing at Marissa. He doesn't want Marissa to forget the duty to take care of him, he wants to make Marissa continue to feel guilty.

Instantly Marissa stopped chewing, even her hands were restrained in front of her mouth.

“But you have to eat. Here Grandma bribe,” invite Grandma Alma.

“No, no need. Granny eats only,” says Iyash.

Marissa was pensive and ashamed of herself. Again he realized that Iyash was like this because of him and he was asked to take care of the man. He is indeed a sensitive person and never shut himself from the surrounding situation, only sometimes he deliberately forgets it.

“Kak Iyash ate with Icha aja,” said the woman while sliding the plate near Iyash. “Let Icha the bribe, Nek.”

“You sure?” ask Grandma Alma.

“Iya. Icha wash your hands again. Let me later use spoon.” Marissa got up, but Iyash held her back.

“Why wash your hands again? You mind if I eat right out of your hands?” challenge the man.

Marissa. “Not a problem,” does not want to lose.

“Ya is fast, I am hungry.”

Marissa sat back down. “Dasar bulged,” murmured while plucking rice along with one pinch tempe bacem.

“What are you doing?” ask Iyash.

“Ngak. Fast feeding.” Marissa stuffed the rice into the man's mouth, then she added a pinch of goldfish, and chunks of chayote. “Old chew.”

The woman then filled her stomach again. He doesn't care if his hands are Iyash's mouth. He was hungry and fortunately he was not a disgusted man.

Edgar himself was uncomfortable seeing how Marissa treated Iyash. It was so sweet that the two of them did not acknowledge each other.

While Grandma Alma even smiled at the closeness and treatment of Marissa to Iyash. Hasa was right that Marissa was a sweet child. He remembered Hasa's phone call after the magrib. The youngest son asks permission to match Iyash with Marissa.

“Mother agrees, ‘kan?” Hasa ended her blessing request with a question. “Marissa is a good boy, since Restu died, Hasa is responsible for raising him.”

Grandma Alma was crying. He remembered how Iyash's once cheerful changes, then became as cold and frozen as now. Ten years Iyash survives and waits for Aruna who will clearly not return to him. Alma's grandmother did not know that Aruna was alive. Even Iqbal also did not know because when Aruna returned to Indonesia, he was carrying out Umrah worship, then continued to travel to Turkey.

“Bu,” call Hasa on the phone.

“What Iyash wants? You guys tried to match Iyash with Adisty, ‘kan?” ask Grandma Alma.

“Iya,” replied Hasa. “Iyash does not want, he said Adisty is not his type.”

“Continue this how?”

Grandma Alma smiled.

“If mother agrees, Hasa will not delay it again.”

“Do we talk about this first with Mr?”

“Iya. You can tell my dad about this. Hope you guys agree.”

“Iya, I'll let you know again if you've spoken to Mr.”

“Good, Mom, thank you.”

Now that Grandma Alma knew that not only was Marissa good, she also felt that her sweet attitude could change and soften Iyash's hard attitude and she also believed that Marissa could melt the cold attitude of her youngest granddaughter.

No taste Marissa has three times to dip rice and fill the plate with side dishes. He had never eaten so much before. Maybe Iyash is actually the one who ate a lot. Or maybe it's because he's hungry and he feels like he's racing with Iyash.

“Izin smoking.” Suddenly Marissa heard Edgar's voice. He just realized that his goal here was for Edgar, but why he was busy with Iyash instead.

Edgar left the dining room. He smoked a cigarette with a cup of coffee that was not warm anymore. Before eating, he asked Lastri to make him a thick black coffee.

As Edgar leaves the dinner table, Marissa is pensive and unaware that her hand is stuck in front of Iyash's face. Iyash grabbed Marissa's wrist and pointed it at her mouth.

“You don't think about how rice gets into my nostrils?” the man scolded while chewing.

“Sorry.” Marissa returned to her position.

“Marissa,” call Iyash because the woman was even bowed while staring at the rice grains that are only three mouthfuls more.

The woman turned her head and went back to feed Iyash. “Quick spend. I need to talk to Edgar,” whispered.

However, Iyash did not want to hear that. He doesn't like to see Marissa purposely approach Edgar blatantly. According to him, Marissa must be a little expensive to sell, as Marissa did to him.

Iyash deliberately chewed it a long time, so that Marissa remained nearby, even though the food was only two more bribes. However, he wanted to hold Marissa back even longer.

“Quick, Brother,” pinta the girl slowly.

“You yourself said that I had to chew it long.”

“Now accelerated,” said Marissa while taking the last feed. However, Iyash's mouth was still full of food earlier.

Marissa took a breath.

Iyash saw Marissa's breath. Maybe he should give Marissa a chance to complete the task from Miranti.

“Finally finished also feeding the bears,” Marissa said when she managed to give the last steam to Iyash's mouth.

Iyash has heard Marissa call her a bear from Alaska. He doesn't care about the call. It's up to Marissa.

While Edgar was pensive under the dark sky. Not long ago came Juragan Hartanto. He stopped smoking, then turned to the three-legged man.

Slowly Juragan Hartanto sat down, then put his cane on the edge of the chair. “You already know Iyash?”

Edgar nodded. Of course he didn't know his own sister. His heart could only be sliced away at this reality. However, with his being there, Edgar was already strong enough. If it happens to others, like Aruna, Gusman and Ganjar, maybe they will choose to avoid reality and look for something else in his life. However, not with Edgar, he had long awaited this moment.

“Iyash Grandma Alma's favorite granddaughter. Grandma waited too long for Hasa's granddaughter. I don't know how many years since Hasa married Ira,” said Juragan Hartanto.

Edgar's chest rumbled, suddenly his breath felt stuck in the throat until he could not respond to the words of Juragan Hartanto. He just wanted to say that Iyash was lucky to be surrounded by so many people who loved him.

Juragan Hartanto smiled at Edgar. “Iyash doesn't look like Hasa, she instead looks more like her mother.”

Edgar smiled clumsily.

“Kakek actually even saw you look like Hasa when young. Weird yes.”

Edgar coughed at the words of the Hartanto master.

“Maybe a coincidence. But, this is really strange, whereas maybe you have never met Hasa.”

Edgar could not respond to Juragan Hartanto. He wanted to cry and scream. Just realize he realized it wasn't appropriate. All this time Miranti raised him to be a strong man.
