Lan Zhuxian raised his hand. From a distance the guards of the headquarters that were in the tower were able to pick up on the signal Lan Zhuxian had given as a sign that they were not enemies.
Immediately the man shouted stopping the archer squad from attacking the group. It was only when the horde advanced to just a few tens of meters away from the troops that they could see Lan Zhuxian the number two of Unit One walking forward.
Followed behind him with many of the other Four Surveillance Units.
They were surprised not to play when they saw the faces they were so familiar with. The Demon Sword and its two sons who were descendants of the famous Xin clan since the war were met in the Valley of the Gods.
"Is this really ... Are-"
The guard force even stormed itself. They see it clearly. It really is a Demon Sword. And it means that the war has ended and brought victory to the Shang Empire.
Undeniably, the men in that place were moved.
They can safely return to their families. Twenty-one of them, almost half of them were on the ground. Unbelieving, but at the same time, speechless.
"Live the Xin Clan!!!"
One voice echoed in the middle of the guard line, in unison followed by another. Their eyes glazed over to welcome Xin Fai's return, and the return of two young men who had now been battered.
Xin Zhan's robe that was once so white changed into a seedy one full of tears. Xin Chen himself, his hair was to the point of disheveling.
Once there, they all gathered at one point. Xin Chen's goal was to stop at the headquarters first because the horses they had brought were not enough to bring the entourage to the center of the city. Therefore, Lan Zhuxian gave a proposal to take out the horses provided at the Headquarters of the Four Surveillance Units.
The rest of them are free to fill the stomach or rest, the possibility of enemies coming is very small. The guards immediately spread out preparing everything.
The night came so fast. The cool air makes the leaves that grow dry in the soil dewy.
The bonfire lit up brightly, the night was so quiet that the sound of tree branches could be heard clearly. Though all the members of the Four Surveillance Units were there. Duck. I felt great sorrow after the war.
"Our fallen friends deserve honor. They are heroes. Fighting in the way of justice, death will not separate us all. Because our souls will continue to burn in the Valley of the Gods."
Sighing deeply into the heart of the young man who had just let out that voice, he sighed deeply hoping that sorrow would not constantly plunge into his heart. It only made his other partner grow sad.
"Senior Bai, former Third Imperial Pillar. He died with pride in his heart. We must restore what was taken from our undead hero; honor."
Xin Chen recalled very clearly, like he had just seen her yesterday. The times when he went to the man's house, the board house he lived in with his wife and young son. No more fancy robes of his greatness, back then Bai Huang had thrown away his sword.
Because of a painful incident where the man was humiliated by a noble family. The hot metal scar on the man's back was a wound that would never go away. Unknowingly Xin Chen clenched his hands, unable to bear to imagine the faces of the Imperial Pillars that were on foot in the palace while the person insulted by the Empire was precisely the one who was betting his life here.
And he would definitely punish those elite parasites with his laws. Just waiting for time.
Guilt enveloped Xin Chen's heart, his fist loosening when he remembered an innocent little boy. Bai Luo, Bai Huang's only son lost the father figure that was supposed to guide him. Then his wife will be a widow.
"Chairman, what's wrong?"
"Today many children have lost their fathers. Many women have lost their husbands. What can we give them back? I don't have any more face to apologize to them ..."
"Second Young Master, you have brought victory to all of us. That's more than enough."
"Only for one father, many children lose their father." Xin Fai walked out of the tent, removing the cloth from his face. The man's face was not clearly visible because it was so dim.
But Xin Chen knew there was sadness in the look in his eyes.
"That's not true. You are a father to everyone" Xin Chen said. "Thousands of people begged me to take you back to the Shang Empire."
All Xin Chen's words were honest as they were. Not once did he speak to his people who were shouting for the Demon Sword to return. And for their sake anyway, Xin Chen fought desperately.
Xin Fai sat next to Xin Chen who was seated forming a circle circling the bonfire. No one sits highest or lowest. Because in the Four Surveillance Units, they are all the same.
"What I can give back to their children and their wives is an honor to the man who has abandoned them. After I take care of the matters in the City, I'll come back here and perform a tribute ceremony for all the members of the Four Unions of Reconnaissance who have passed away."
"And Dad ..." Xin Chen looked at him, pleading. "I will ask Emperor Qin to build a monument in memory of Bai Huang's services. People have branded themselves as murderers. It was a slander spread by rotten nobles."
"You're asking the man who gave the order to kill your own father?" Xin Zhan's voice rang out from a distance, it seemed that he had just finished taking care of some things in the other tent.
No one dared to answer Xin Zhan, his words did sound piercing. Because it was like that from the beginning. If he's okay, there's no problem. Another story that the dark-eyed young man was angry, his speech was like a heart-wrenching razor.
"The rotten man seems to know only to give orders and protect himself with his wife inside the palace." Xin Zhan was still unable to accept the fact that the Shang Empire had turned around to attack him after what Xin Fai had done to the Empire. That's hurtful. His father's decades-long struggle vanished only because the man had lost his memory.
"Dan'er ... Sit here," Xin Fai called out to pat her empty next door. Xin Zhan followed still in his regretful look.
"The job of a leader is to direct and protect all of his people. Taking risks to harm the people is not an option. But removing threats and distress is imperative. Regardless of who the threat itself is."
"But-"
"This time I can accept father's thoughts." Xin Chen interrupted. Making Xin Zhan inevitably have to understand.
"What are we going to do after this? Anybody have a proposal? For the Four Surveillance Units to come?" Xin Chen asked the rest of the members, the discussion started until late night came. Of those sixty more people, Xin Chen was able to deduce a few things.
One of them is a place of respect for the members of the Four Surveillance Units who have died. Their names will be written along the wall devoted to the 'Wall of Respect' Headquarters. And if possible, their relics will be taped there. The plan could not be realized now because they did not have the materials and also quite a lot of members.
Just then before everyone fell asleep, Xin Chen ended the conversation with his plan.
"I will send out troops as soon as possible after arriving at the center. Build this Wall of Respect as beautifully as possible. We don't have their bodies to bury, but with this Wall of Respect they'll get a better rest."
"Good, Chief!"
