Ch. 75 - Friends
Xin Chen who lost his concentration then regained the fatal attack that hit his body, the Sword Spirit in Xin Fai's hands now became the greatest threat to Xin Chen. The man was a few steps more shrewd in playing the sword than he was, if Xin Chen had only learned spirit control for a few years then Xin Fai had already studied it for decades.
The difference was clearly visible between the two, Xin Chen distracted Xin Fai for a moment. But the Fire Goddess just suddenly moved towards Lan An. Making Xin Chen panic was not playing. He did not want to let the man face the Fire Goddess who could instantly burn one city in just one strike.
Xin Chen's efforts were fruitless, the woman dodged the Black Line chasing her and giggled with laughter at her failed attack. Xin Chen clicked a few times, he still had to face Xin Fai behind him. The wind blade chased Xin Chen from behind. But that power came to a halt as the spirit shield held him back and disappeared into ashes.
The giant black fog moved in pursuit of the Fire Goddess, before the woman launched a huge explosion that instantly burned one place, Xin Chen first protected Lan An with a spirit shield.
Xin Chen used that spirit power to move Lan An to a place far away from the enemy and immediately followed while preparing an all-out protest.
"Uncle?! You shouldn't be here! You're just putting yourself in danger"
"You're safe, Chen. I'm really relieved."
"It's not time for that. You-"
"You want me to be like everyone in the Shang Empire? Not thinking you can interfere in your affairs and take refuge in fear at home while expecting you to win against the Demon Sword and Dark Dragon?"
Xin Chen was at a loss for words. His mouth was tightly clenched. There was a lot she wanted to say but unfortunately all of it was stuck in her throat, Lan An's worried face at this moment made her lose her voice.
"I can't let you fight alone when you scream for help. That right? It's just, you guys only dare to wish for each other. Don't want to involve others for fear of their lives being threatened."
"Uncle Lan, please listen to me. The situation here is not good at all. You're hurt real bad. And facing them you need a spirit power like me to move freely in the air."
"Chen'er, you know." Lan An snorted resignedly. It seemed that his body was not able to withstand the deadly temperature in the Valley of the Gods that wanted to melt him every second. But the man tried to calm down and widen the smile, his typical smile that always looks stupid and easily deceived. Lan An could see Xin Fai's face from a distance, so similar to the face of this young man in front of her.
Recalling a nostalgic time when they were teenagers and exchanging laughter with each other.
"I had a bad dream when I arrived at Fanlu City. Maybe I was dying then, I had not dared to meet Xin Xia. She must be crying now that she knows I'm back here to see you and my best friend."
"Nightmare?"
"I dreamt you were killed at the hands of your own father. With a black sword and your face was so frightened. You're alone here, no one's helping you because Xin Zhan left. But relax, I'm here for you."
"And for the last meeting with my best friend."
Xin Chen did not realize that his blue eyes began to glaze over, just like when he was a child and trapped in a dark room. Frightened and alone, then Lan An suddenly came and laughed while taking it out. Then pat her back. The man treated her so well.
His blue eyes opened wide, finding Lan An moving backwards protecting his back from the attack and precisely making the spirit sword stick into his chest.
As the great power surged drastically, the spirit power split giving rise to a strong wind. Lan An painstakingly took a breath. The surprised Xin Chen could barely respond.
Lan An had just sacrificed her life. Xin Chen wanted to immediately save the man but the Fire Goddess suddenly came fighting him.
"Chen'er, don't save me this time."
The word sounded faint until suddenly a red flame scroll trapped Xin Chen within it. Xin Chen forced himself to come out but absolutely could not. Although he was burning inside, the fire was no different from the metal tons thick and did not let it out in any way
The Fire Goddess laughed out loud, "One life will be sacrificed. Let's see how ruined this young man is going to be."
Lan An did not respond to the ridicule and focused on looking into Xin Fai's brown eyes deeply, "Hey, comrade. You still remember me?"
Lan An endured that excruciating pain, enduring the scream that had barely escaped her lips. So that his best friend does not underestimate him, even in the seconds before his death.
"You hurt your own children, you idiot. They are innocent. Even when you want to hurt them, they still want to help you. Remember, let go of something that controls you. And remember ... We were once friends. I won't let you be sad one day for killing your children today. Even if I have to sacrifice my own life."
The man took a deep breath. "Xiaxia is very much waiting for your return. I even thought you seemed more important than her own husband, hahaha."
Xin Fai's eyes were still the same, her countenance had not softened at all and was still filled with fury that was out of nowhere. Lan An did not want to stop talking, she was looking forward to this time to meet her best friend again and say all the things that had been troubling her mind.
"Your sister hasn't smiled since you left."
Xin Fai stiffened her resistance, Lan An increasingly tightly grasped the hand of Xin Fai who was now stabbing the spirit sword deep into her chest cavity.
"Your wife has a disease that puts her at risk of losing her life."
He said with tightness, blood started seeping in Lan An's body. The wind was still blowing all around them. And slowly Lan An began to sense that his spirit would be drawn by the sword.
"Your son Xin Zhan always cried when I saw him alone in the forest. But he smiled so widely as to face the many people who depended on him."
"And your second son, Xin Chen. He disappeared for seven years and never appeared. Of all people, he may be the hardest hit on your departure. Now, do you understand everything that happened as a result of your decision that day?"
