Dark clouds had long been lingering in the sky, occasionally faint booms could be heard behind the low floating black clouds. Yian shivered instead of playing, fear running through his entire body to the point that the teenager's footsteps trembled all the way. At his side Shuo walked in imitation of the movements of the infected. No less afraid when one by one infected approach and smell his body.
They both held their breath. Let the infected pass.
"For whatever reason, it's scarier than being told to walk in a midnight grave."
"Don't be noisy. They can hear you." Xin Chen noticed the situation in front of him was very alert, he had to think of a way for them to arrive at the front fence, the time was only six minutes left. Meanwhile a large crowd had scattered all over the front road. It's hard to get through.
Yian pointed out a road flanked by a chest-high barrier. The one-way street is empty. They can take the road to get there faster. Without a second thought everything went straight there, fast and getting closer to the guardrail.
Xin Chen's blue eyes looked up, his eyebrows dropped as if not believing the weather could even betray him at times like these.
It's raining hard. They're still too far away. Neither Yian, Shuo, Lang, Three nor himself could do anything but continue on the journey. The blood and flesh of the corpse that covered the entire clothes now began to disintegrate along with the rain water that carried it into the sewers.
"Campus." Shuo gulped, realizing one after another a roar began to sound. The infected were looking around for the source of the smell, Xin Chen started counting.
"Three ..."
The spies began to focus on them.
"Two ..."
"RUN!"
The compact shout was accompanied by a stirring chase, hundreds of infected followed them along the way. Even more unlucky creatures that were much stronger than them also came chasing. Step Three who was slightly sluggish was overtaken, Xin Chen retreated quickly and bulldozed the herd. Letting others go first.
"Chen!"
Lang turned back, his eyes widening as he saw a missile darting towards the fifth-floor building that was a bit close to them. The young man immediately turned his head, his robe pulled. A few times he escaped, he was almost bitten.
Not thinking long Lang immediately went back to chasing Xin Chen, using his legs to kick the infected herd. He bit, clawed and slammed so hard.
"Get on me!"
Three, Yian and Shuo had been in a safe place while both of them were still running into the guardrail.
Xin Chen immediately went up, Lang ran as fast as possible before the thing exploded. Not having much time, he got into a deep enough gutter. Until finally a great explosion was inevitable. Some organs fall into the gutter. Xin Chen and Lang took cover, seeing flames accompanied by smoke passing above them.
A few minutes until things started to subside, Xin Chen and Lang went straight out. Seeing that Yian had been at the top, signaled for them to quickly be on guard.
"They're already here."
Yian reached out to Xin Chen, Lang went upstairs. His eyes surrounded the entire city that had been destroyed. Ruins scattered with bodies, some still alive despite the fire.
"Who?"
"The researcher."
Yian all pointed towards the herd of men in all-covered uniforms and the mask that covered the mouth. Xin Chen was stunned for a moment. They had met in an underground tunnel when they were about to enter the Wei Empire. And being the mastermind why he was, Luo Li and Lang were trapped inside the Death Labyrinth.
Nawat, for him. Because ever since setting foot in the Wei Empire there have been enemies following him. This is not good news for him.
Without stalling, the three immediately ran. Breaking through the approaching infected herd until they reached a slightly deserted area of trees.
Three kneeling, his breathing was only a few. Yian was the same, among them his weakest body was him. While Shuo was looking for wood all around, it seemed like they would need a spear to deal with some new species up ahead.
"About two kilometers from here, I've heard of a camp surrounded by pine trees."
"But the place is directly adjacent to the Central Military Faction and also the defectors."
"Central Military Faction? Defectors?"
The three turned around in order to come face to face with Xin Chen, it seemed that his new friend did not really know everything about the Wei Empire.
"Let me explain to you."
The three began to describe, "Central Military Faction, they were a military that was under the direct control of the Emperor. They kill a lot, their superiors no one even knows. But I've heard lately there's been a shock in their group. They controlled most of the Empire. And also working with researchers. Ah, political matters if I explain it can be until the night you hear it. The point is, never be bound by cooperation with them." Three raised his index finger, staring at Xin Chen deeply.
"They're not part of us" he said later.
"And defector. They're just a bunch of garbage robbing, stealing and destroying people. Most often it intersects with the Central Military Faction. Last time their base was destroyed, but they're still moving today."
Shuo added, "Don't forget the Night Protector. They usually move at night to find food and tools needed. They are our side. The ones who survived this great disaster in the Empire and formed an armed force that fought the infected, the Central Military Faction or even the Defectors."
At least Xin Chen had already understood the image of the group within the Wei Empire as they walked through the forests. The three still continued with all the explanations until two hours later they arrived at a place inhabited by tens to hundreds of people.
Three raised their hands. He knew some who were guarding at the front door. Two white men asked him to speak.
"Hey, Three! Howareyou? I thought you drowned with those bodies." He laughed wide. "Still looking for your wife's child?"
"of course. I brought our new comrades. Can you call your leader?"
"He hasn't been here since two days. If you are desperate, just wait here. Ah, I'm going first."
No one put on a suspicious face towards the five of them, just that Lang's existence was enough to shock them. The rest, they are welcome to enter into a housing surrounded by fences and protectors. There are settlements that are not so broad but enough to be inhabited by a hundred more people.
Xin Chen stopped when he saw the crowd in front of a house. Dozens of people are expressing emotions.
"He's been bitten, stone head! Dump him out immediately or am I gonna read you?" The man was almost four heads up, in front of him a girl lying in the seat of her mother who was crying sobbing. Around him dozens of people forced the woman to kill her own child who was believed to have been bitten while searching for vegetables outside.
"No way, my son is fine. He said himself, he scratched the iron wire when it slipped."
"But his body temperature is high!"
"Trust me, he's got a fever. That's just it ... Please." The woman held the leg of the man in front of her the most deflecting.
"Don't kill my son, I have no one else but him."
The machete has been lifted, it will soon split the head of the girl.
Xin Chen confronted. Three and others were astonished. The young man put his hand over the girl's mouth.
"Look, if she's infected, she'll eat my hand right away. Are they most sensitive to smells?"
As it went silent, Xin Chen's voice came back. "There's nothing strange in his head. He's still human. And the tear marks on his skin are not bite marks. The tear is straight, it must have been caused by a sharp object scratch."
There was the sound of applause from behind her back, a woman with three different types of weapons beside her waist smiled widely.
"A great analysis. He's correct. This poor girl is not wrong, so you want to throw it away? We currently need more comrades in order to fight together. Put down your weapon."
