Chapter 7. Overturned

"Don't mind their gazes, Xiao Yin! We will be there soon" Liwei said as she watched Fang Yin continue to lower her face as she walked.

Fang Yin only answered him with a nod.

Actually Fang Yin lowered his head not out of embarrassment or disbelief but rather because he was afraid that one of the villagers would recognize him.

If they could look closely, they would know if the clothes Fang Yin wore were the best weave that normally only nobles and kings could have.

Fang Yin wished that they would not know about it and hoped that Liwei and Mao Zhan would give him a simple hanfu and give him the impression of being an ordinary person.

Mao Zhan, who was walking at the front, entered a spacious courtyard. At the front door was a sign bearing the name 'Mao Family'. That meant the house was where Mao Zhan and Liwei lived.

Fang Yin was still standing in front of the door even though Mao Zhan had already opened the door for him and entered first.

"Come in, son." Liwei held onto Fang Yin's shoulder and slightly pushed him to follow her into the house.

"Sorry to trouble you, Auntie. Did you live alone with your uncle in this house?" fang Yin asked as she looked around the room.

"No. There are our kids in the back too. Come with me, I'll introduce you to them."

Liwei led Fang Yin through the living room and opened a door that revealed a courtyard surrounded by several rooms connected to each other.

Mao's family home is very large for the villagers. It can be said they are rich people in his village considering other houses around him that look ordinary.

There was a faint sound of people talking in a room. Liwei brought Fang Yin into the room. Fang Yin held the breath he inhaled for a moment then exhaled it slowly, inwardly he wished the children of Liwei could accept his presence in the house.

"Mother!" call one of Liwei's daughters, get up from her seat and follow the others.

There were four children in the room, two boys and two girls.

"You sit. I'll introduce you to a new member of our family." Liwei asked her four children to sit down again.

The four of them complied and sat back on the floor.

"Xiao Yin, go!" call Liwei.

Fang Yin stepped in and sat down beside Liwei, facing off against his four children.

"He's Mao Chen, my eldest son." Liwei pointed at a young man roughly 17 years old.

Fang Yin looked teary-eyed at her because he remembered his older brother Gu Qian Fan.

Fang Yin bowed respectfully to Mao Chen and Mao Chen returned his respect.

"He's Mao Shen, my second son." Liwei again pointed to a son who was about 15 years old.

Again Fang Yin again remembered his second brother Gu Yu Wen.

Fang Yin bowed again to pay his respects to Mao Shen and Mao Shen replied.

"And these two girls are twins Mao Lian and Mao Niu." Liwei pointed at his two girls who were roughly the same age as Fang Yin.

As Fang Yin wanted to bow giving him respect, Mao Niu moved like he was pushing forward to stop him.

"There's no need to be too polite to us, Xiao ... Owen ...." Niu seemed to be recalling Fang Yin's long name.

"Xiao Yin" said Liwei.

"Yes, Xiao Yin." Niu smiled kindly at Fang Yin.

Another with Niu, Lian looked quiet and seemed indifferent.

After the introduction was over, Liwei asked her two daughters to show them where the bathhouse and their room were. The house did not have much empty space, so Fang Yin had to sleep together with Niu and Lian. Fang Yin was very happy that they received it well there.

Fang Yin's days within the Mao family were pleasant. She spent more time with Mao Zhan and Liwei than her four children. Fang Yin was often invited to go out looking for medicinal plants in the hills and valleys they used to visit.

In the house, Fang Yin was also asked to help Mao Zhan and Liwei concoct medicine. Their four children are not interested in helping their parents work. They chose to do other work that is selling medicinal plants and some recipes that are concocted by their parents.

Until one day, the whole family gathered to share the sale of medicinal plants they sold. That's what they usually do after the money from the sale has been collected a lot. The four children of Mao Zhan will usually often scramble when the division takes place.

That night, the seven of them gathered in the lounge where they used to gather. In the room was a table, seven of them sitting around the table. Without much further ado, Mao Zhan, the head of the family, placed a bag of money on the table.

The four Liwei children looked impatient to receive their share.

Mao Zhan seemed to be counting the gold coins and silver coins he took out from inside the cloth bag he had previously placed on the table.

Fang Yin was not too surprised by the amount of money that was before him. Although she was no longer a princess, in her ring she had more than 10 times the money in front of her. Unlike Fang Yin, Mao Zhan's four children did not blink at the sheer amount of money.

Apparently, this month's sales results are more than the previous month. They hope to get more from last month.

Mao Zhan began to sort the gold coins and silver coins into 7 different parts.

Fang Yin had yet to realize about the change in attitude of the four adopted brothers. He tries to behave as usual in carrying out his activities. Mao Zhan and Liwei looked even more affectionate towards Fang Yin because thanks to his help, they were able to obtain medicinal herbs of good quality. Not only that, Fang Yin also gave them special tricks in processing medicinal ingredients so as not to reduce their content when dried.

As Fang Yin went to help Mao Zhan and Liwei search for medicinal herbs, the four Mao Zhan children gathered to bring out their uneasiness about Fang Yin.

They planned to get rid of Fang Yin from their home in a sneaky manner. Both of her parents couldn't possibly allow Fang Yin to leave the house if they didn't make Fang Yin make a mistake that made her parents angry.

That afternoon, as usual, Fang Yin took out their search results and stored them well in a special room. There are several types of medicinal plants that have perishable properties if not immediately aerated. Everything was sorted out and treated in a different way by Fang Yin well.

Without Fang Yin realizing it, Mao Shen had since watched his movements and waited for Fang Yin to come out from there. After Fang Yin came out, Mao Shen immediately entered the room and reinserted all the medicinal herbs obtained that day. That way, the entire medicinal plant would be damaged and have no selling point anymore.

Mao Shen smiled happily and deeply felt his efforts this time would succeed. He immediately went to see his three brothers and told them what he had done. The three of them cheered when they heard the news and couldn't wait for tomorrow.

The next day, Mao Zhan did find the medicinal plants they had gathered were still in his shelter basket. At first he guessed that Fang Yin had forgotten her duty and wanted to get angry at her. Just as he was about to go meet Fang Yin, he suddenly saw some medicinal plants scattered in the usual place Fang Yin had stored them. Mao Zhan came to know if anyone had intentionally put the medicinal plant back in his basket.

Fang Yin was unaware of what was happening because he felt he had done his job well.

The four children of Mao Zhan looked disappointed when Mao Zhan did not scold him and instead invited him back to go look for medicinal herbs.

"Sister Shen, have you really done your job well?" lian asked after their parents went out with Fang Yin.

"I'm very sure. If you don't believe me, let's go check into that warehouse!" take Shen to his three brothers.

The four of them rushed to the warehouse and proved Shen's remark. Inside that warehouse there were no medicinal plants their search results from yesterday. They also did not find where the medicinal plants had been damaged, perhaps their father had disposed of them.

"Mom and Dad have really changed. They love that ugly girl so much more than us that they don't bother and ignore this big thing." Mao Chen looked so angry.

The four of them again set up a stratagem to trap Fang Yin. This time they asked Lian and Niu as the parties involved in the matter. They wanted to make Fang Yin seem to steal the clothes belonging to the two of them.

Although Fang Yin's return was still a long time ago, they immediately began his evil plan. Niu and Lian put their favorite clothes in the storage area of Fang Yin's clothes which contained the clothes that were also their previous gifts. The four of them were very confident that the plan this time would definitely work.

In the afternoon, Fang Yin immediately rushed to pick up instead before going to take a bath after coming from looking for medicinal herbs.

"Prepare, Niu, Lian! Our second game is about to start" said Mao Chen.

Niu and Lian begin to play the drama by pretending to be confused in search of her lost clothes.

Liwei who was about to go to rest, was troubled by the cries of her twin daughter.

"What's this?" liwei asked as she opened Niu's room door.

Niu complained about what happened to Liwei, his three other brothers chimed in and gave seasoning to exacerbate this problem.

Liwei listened carefully then smiled gently at the two girls.

"Guild a little bit on Xiao Yin! Poor that he no longer has a family. Maybe he just wanted to borrow it for a little while."

Liwei's reply made the bodies of the four of them seem to suffocate in disappointment. Again their attempts to get rid of Fang Yin had to fail.

Fang Yin who had finished bathing and heard all their conversations from outside the room since earlier, yet they were unaware of it. Feeling that something was amiss, Fang Yin thought about investigating what had really happened. It was too early for him to conclude that his four adopted brothers did not like him.

Fang Yin pretended not to know anything and behaved normally then immediately entered, when Liwei and his two sons had already left the room he occupied with Niu and Lian.

Niu and Lian pretended to be asleep when Fang Yin entered the room. They waited for Fang Yin to sleep to go out and have a discussion with his two older brothers. Seeing that Fang Yin was already motionless and sleeping soundly, the two of them snuggled out of his room.

Secretly Fang Yin who had actually not slept followed the two of them behind. It turned out to be true, the four brothers conspired to frame him. Fang Yin also only found out from their conversation if they had previously damaged the medicinal ingredients in order to slander him.

Mao Zhan was apparently also stealing hearing from a different place to Fang Yin.

Inadvertently Fang Yin's hand nudged a large urn that was by his side. Although the urn did not break but made a loud noise that invited the attention of the four brothers. They came out from where they were gathered.

"There's an eavesdropper here!" exclaim Chen.

Instead of feeling guilty, they instead showed their dislike for Fang Yin.

"So you guys ..." Fang Yin's words were cut off when he saw Chen's hand raised to hint for him to be silent.

"Yes, right. We don't like your presence here. Not for today, tomorrow and beyond, ugly girl!" exclaim Chen.

They did not know that Fang Yin's face behind her veil was extremely beautiful.

Fang Yin fell silent upon hearing Chen's words. After which, everything took turns expressing his dislike for Fang Yin. Fang Yin finally relented and promised them to leave there that night without bringing anything.

The four brothers also forbade Fang Yin to say goodbye to her parents in order to leave a bad impression on them. Fang Yin could not resist. Perhaps this was indeed the best path for him because during his stay in that place he was unable to cultivate.

In a hidden place, Mao Zhan heard everything. Actually he was anxious to hold back Fang Yin who was his precious asset, yet that was not his doing. She did not want her children to do any more recklessly to hurt Fang Yin outside of her supervision.
