The robbers had trouble balancing their legs. They have trouble moving and even some of them always slip and end up falling on the ground.
"This is the same trick I used against Taiji. If Taiji had been in trouble, then they shouldn't have had a chance" Darren said.
"Damn! We can't stand on this ice. Plus the torrential rain extinguished all our torches," grumbled the head-bound robber leader.
"Everything! Shoot your arrows! Shower him with arrows!" Connect the robber leader loudly.
Arrows flying in the air. But many of them were off the mark and ended up falling before reaching Darren.
"Campret. The rain made the arrows heavy. From this distance we won't be able to touch it" they grumbled.
Darren laughs. "Are you guys done?" Her speech. "It's my turn now!"
Darren closed his eyes. He looked up at the sky and cast a spell.
"Ice Elemental: Froze!"
An extremely cold frost flowed out from Darren's body. It froze all the falling rainwater, freezing it in the air.
The water turned into sharp little needles of ice. It can injure a person by giving him an unbearable, but not deadly, pain.
The screams of pain rang out to Darren's ears. That was enough to make him satisfied.
"Hows it? Are you guys giving up?" Darren.
Before any of the robbers could answer, a person with a mask suddenly appeared in their midst.
Darren didn't even notice his arrival.
"Who is he? Where'd he come from?"
"He just showed up. I don't feel his arrival."
"Cancellations!" Said the masked man.
Instantly all Darren's magic stopped him. The rain subsided, and the ice-ice melted.
Everyone there was stunned, including Darren. But he remained on his guard by placing his hand on his sword.
"Can you please explain what's going on here?" Connect the guy.
That person was wearing quite eccentric clothes and was wearing a mask that covered his face. His body was covered in shiny green armor and had dark green hair.
"Is he an adventurer? Seems not. He has a badge on his belt."
"Who are you?" Ask Darren.
"Oh, me? I'm just a police officer on patrol and happened to see this commotion. So I decided to take a look, "he answered. "I've answered your question. Now, can you please answer mine?"
"All right," said Darren. "The robbers stole this animal man from his owner."
"Eh...really?" Reply to that guy. "What did he say was true?" Ask while facing the robbers.
"No! He's lying!" Reply them.
"Alright, then," said the person with a sigh. "You guys got him" he said to the robbers.
"Eh?" Darren surprised. "Are you just going to believe my words?"
"I have a talent for seeing the flow of mana of a person," Reply that person. "As they spoke, I felt a stream of lies upon them."
"Ah, so this guy has the same talent as Rolf."
"But I feel something strange on you," the person continued, "Your Mana Flow seems unique."
"Is that right?" Darren said while scratching his head.
"But stop. I got a job. If you have a complaint or something, you can report it at a police station in the city" the man said as he left Darren.
"And by the way," Suddenly she continued, "Your magic was great. You better not use it."
The man left after handcuffing the robber gang.
Darren just stood there without saying anything.
"That guy." Only that word stuck in his head.
He then returned to the animals. But after seeing their numbers, he became confused as to what to do.
"I can't just take them off. They might get arrested again."
"Animal humans are very vulnerable to being slaves. Especially if they're caught out of no man."
Seeing those who were fragile and hungry, Darren could not bear to let them just like that. He thought of becoming their master until they could live alone.
"You guys!" He said firmly, hoping they would listen to him. "From now on, I am your master!"
"Oh no, am I talking too loudly? I might even scare them."
The animal humans also prostrated themselves in front of Darren. Signs they're starting to follow Darren.
"I don't want them to follow me with fear. At least I should make them trust me" murmured Darren. "But I have to behave like their master, so that no one will be suspicious."
"Are you hungry?" Darren asked with a smile.
"Let's hunt in the woods!" Darren.
All the animals are excited. They don't seem to have eaten long enough.
The location of Darren is still quite far from the city, so the natural environment is still quite extensive in the area.
"Hunting snow bunnies seems like a great option, given the sheer number of populations here" Darren murmured.
.
.
.
Shortly after, Darren managed to gather a lot of rabbit meat. He made several bonfires and burned meat on them simultaneously.
"Master is so great" said the female animal man.
"Ah, just plain," Reply Darren. "Call me Darren."
"Well, Darren-sama."
After the meat is cooked, Darren feeds all the animals there. They all ate until they were full and their energy recovered.
"Thank you very much, Darren-sama!" Say them simultaneously.
"Yes, equally," Darren said with a smile.
Seeing the laughter of the animal humans, made Darren satisfied. It's been a long time since the last time he made someone smile.
"I wish I could make Yuzuna-san smile."
After eating, Darren cleaned up his equipment. He washes his cooking utensils, and cleans the campfire that he has used.
"Water Elemental: Water Clod," Darren drained the water using his magic.
All the beastmen were amazed to see it.
Darren, who saw them all amazed, thought it would be good to teach them magic. Moreover, they would live alone, so at least they should be able to protect themselves.
"Come here, you" Call Darren. "Now you will learn to use magic!"
They were surprised too. But they're following Darren's orders.
After training them all night, Darren discovers that animal humans are very good at mastering magic.
Though this was their first time using magic, but many of them managed to master it well. Although some do not succeed.
Out of thirty-five people, twenty of them managed to master magic.
But their expressions after successfully mastering the magic looked glum. Darren was confused by what happened.
As he was sitting alone under a tree, the animal came to him. He looks worried and agitated.
"What's wrong?" Ask Darren.
"I'm sorry if I'm presumptuous, but what exactly is the purpose of Darren-sama teaching us magic?" His question. "Are we going to be a combat force?"
Darren recalled that some animal humans were also made into combat slaves. They were forced to fight in a war without pay. They sacrificed their lives for the war that humans created.
"Of course not" replied Darren gently. "I taught you so you could protect yourself."
The woman was surprised.
"Actually I want you to live free, without bondage. Live normally like a human being, pursue your dreams, and live as you wish" Darren added.
The woman was also moved. "Darren-sama, why are you so kind?" He said while shedding tears. "I don't know with what I should repay your kindness, Darren-sama."
"I'm not looking for a reward. It was all just my dream to make all living things equal" Darren continued.
"By the way, you're good, yes," Darren continued. "I see you care so much about that little boy. Though I'm sure that you have nothing to do with him."
"Ah, that..." She said, "I've felt what it's like to not eat for days. In the past, I often moved places because of trade. I always change employers and none of them ever give me food. They just gave me trash and leftovers to eat me."
Darren looked at his grim face. It seems like his past is very heavy.
"Then do you have a name?" Ask Darren.
"No. I'm not strong enough for that yet" replied the woman.
"Eh? I asked you a name, " said Darren.
"L-yes, I don't have a name" replied the woman. "It used to be in my village, there was a custom that forbade his people to have names before they could master magic."
"While I left my village three years ago. At that time I had no power at all, so I wandered without a name" the woman continued.
Darren surprised.
"Wait a minute, are you from the White Wolf tribe?" Darren asked while looking at him.
"Eh, how do you know?" Reply to the woman.
"This woman... Hayate's sister!?"
