Isekai No Gakusei: Students From Another World
Human Meaning

Gulp. gulp. It feels cool and soft, but a little bland. Of water? Seems not.

"Whoah! What's this!?" Darren immediately got up and jumped on the bed.

"Relax Darren, this is just a potion" Ravenna said beside him. "I threw it in your mouth because I thought you were in critical time."

Ravenna stood up and took a glass of water to give to Darren who was just sober.

"You're running out of Mana. So you passed out, "Ravenna shoved a glass in her hand.

"Oh, so so. How long have I been unconscious?" Darren drank the water in the glass slowly.

"Maybe about three weeks," Ravenna chuckled.

"Prft!!! T-three weeks!?" Darren again spouted the water he drank.

"Bwahaha... No-no, I'm just kidding," Ravenna laughed.

"Huffs... Again the nature of your prank is crumpled," said Darren while returning to drink the water.

"I'm sorry, I can't help it, '" Ravenna wiped her own tears and returned to the topic. "Okay, okay. This time I'm serious. You fainted about three days."

"T-three..day?"

"Your situation is completely exhausted, and one of the adventurers said that you were in a critical state" Ravenna said. "For those three days, I've always given you potions but you've still remained unconscious."

Darren ducked a little. "Three days I passed out, and Ravenna kept being by my side. I have to pay for it."

"Thank you, Ravenna. Because you've taken care of me" Darren said with a smile.

"Yes, equally. I'm not alone anyway" replied Ravenna. "There's a female Lizardman who's also taking care of you. He and his sister often come and help me with my work."

"Female wizardmen. oh, that must be Riuku. And his sister, Takara."

"Oh, you know, too" Ravenna stood up and took Darren's glass. Filling the glass with water, he said in awe, "Truly, I am amazed by you, Darren. You can be friends with anyone, be it humans or monsters."

"Not to overdo it. I'm not a person to admire" Darren humbled.

"But why? You even ruined your own reputation just to befriend a monster?"

Darren turned towards Ravenna who was looking at him with a few tears on his cheek.

"Ravenna..."

"You helped monsters, sacrificed yourself for their safety, and you're now a fugitive. What exactly is your purpose?" Ask Ravenna again loudly.

"Ravenna, stop."

"Which man wants to ruin his own reputation for this kind of thing. At least, tell me you have a plan!"

"Stop, Ravenna."

"A plan that can restore your honor as a human being! I'm sure you have, right? Aye, right? You have a hidden plan, right?"

"ENOUGH, RAVENNA!" Darren shouted loudly.

Ravenna instantly glued in silence while holding the glass with her trembling hands.

Darren calmed himself down again. He took a slow breath through his nose, and resumed the conversation casually.

"Nothing," he said.

"Nothing?" Ravenna. "What do you mean there's nothing? Don't you want to be human anymore?"

"Being born, I am human. You're human too. Whereas those, who live in the rotten norms set by the government. They don't deserve to be called human beings" Darren said.

"What do you mean?"

Darren got out of his bed and walked slowly closer to Ravenna.

"What makes you human?" Ask Darren.

Ravenna just kept quiet, with a slight shudder with no intention.

"Every human has been born, right? They are born, grow, and live with the rights and obligations that grow with them" Darren said. "So do the monsters. They are born, grow, and live. They also have obligations, and certainly also have rights that arise with them."

Darren placed his palm on Ravenna's shoulder. He looked at her sharply and seriously. It made Ravenna cringe.

"Say, Ravenna. How does it feel when you know that your sister's life is threatened?"

Ravenna's expression instantly hardened. "D-Darren, why are you even talking about that?"

Darren took a breath. "Just answer that question!"

Ravenna answered. "Of course I'm scared."

Darren turned his body and started walking to the window. Outside, there were many children from the Lizardmen and animal humans playing together.

"You see them?" Darren asked as he pointed out the window.

Ravenna nodded.

"They are innocent children. In their minds there is only happiness" Darren said. "Imagine if you were one of those kids. You were playing with your friend, and suddenly a group of humans came with a murderous desire."

Ravenna swallowed her saliva. He began to know where this conversation would go.

"Maybe humans won't kill monster children, because they don't give enough levels. But..." Darren. "How did it feel when they found out that their parents were dead?"

Ravenna immediately glared in shock. As expected, Darren really had a sensitive topic to talk about. But, he could also feel how the feeling that was in Darren's words.

"Their innocent thoughts will change" Darren continued. "Hate and hatred will begin to emerge. Causes them to grow up with the thought that humans are evil and dangerous. They're gonna start killing people and making us their enemies."

"On the other hand, every human being killed, would make the reputation of the monsters even worse. Humans will increasingly think that monsters are evil and they must be destroyed."

"And in the end, the hatred between these two races grew even more. Making a long war not over."

Ravenna started nodding. He understands what Darren means.

"So actually, all we need is a chance to understand each other" Ravenna said as she frowned.

"It's good you understand" Darren smiled.

Ravenna asked the question again. "So, is that why you're doing all this?"

Darren nodded. "Yes" he answered briefly.

"But why did you sacrifice yourself?"

Darren took a breath. "My world-Ahem. "Hate, government manipulation, and racial differences. Often those things bring disaster."

Ravenna was shocked. He had said something that seemed to offend Darren's past.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know your childhood was hard" Ravenna said.

"No-no, it's got nothing to do" Darren replied. "I just don't want this world to experience the same things that it did in my hometown."

Darren leaned his body against the window. While looking at the beautiful scenery accompanied by a cool breeze, he continued his words.

"Difference is not something we should hate, but something we should be grateful for. Because it's that difference that makes the world more beautiful" she said. "We can learn to understand each other, learn diverse cultures, and learn to exchange opinions according to each perspective."

"Look at Ravenna," Darren pointed back at the children. "They come from two different races, but they can play together and still get along. If the whole world were so, then war and hatred would only be a mythical story in the future."

Ravenna.

"And my sister-he would love to live in such a world" he said.

Darren smiles. He nodded slowly while continuing to look out.

Darren began to feel that he had changed since his arrival in this world. Every day, there are always things that change him, even if it is trivial.

"Have I changed, huh? Have I changed for the better? N-What's even worse?"

Darren looked at his wrist.

"This hand.- This hand has been tainted. Cold, unwashable bloodstains. And I don't know when I'm gonna use it."

"How many more lives do I need to take to create a peaceful world?"

Darren continued to daydream until Kanrei suddenly opened the door of the room.

"Excuse me, Rave-Woah, Darren. You're up."

Darren raised his right hand to shoulder level. "Yes!"

"Goodoo. I came here to check on you" Kanrei said.

"What's wrong?" Darren asked, lowering his hand.

"Kaido and the goblin king want to meet you," Reply Kanrei while playing the door. "You better get there fast. There's something they want to talk to you about."

"Well, I'll be there as soon as possible."

"OK," Kanrei left the room.

Darren and Ravenna both live in the room. At first it was all relaxing, but suddenly Darren's face was riled up.

"Why, Darren? Are you still not feeling well?" Ask Ravenna.

"No. I just remembered something" Darren replied. "Shiro and Tora, I forgot about them."
