Chaptre 40. Forbidden

Mike's paled face and his gray eyes that lost focus made Lucius frown.

"Mike's? What's up?"

Old Lucius could only hear the answer from the gray-eyed man.

"You're sure Rudolf gave your father the information?"

"Yes. My father told me everything. I was a teenager at the time. But all the information my father could keep and tell me because he knew it would be hard to find Marinna if Erland and Arthur had interfered. I'm his only successor. His wish was to find his daughter and he wanted me to continue his search."

"Where is your father now, Lucius?"

Mike's question was greeted by silence and sadness that loomed on Lucius' face. The man took a deep breath.

"My dad's coma, Mike. Survive because of the life support medical devices attached to his body. I just want her wish to find her daughter fulfilled. Find them ...."

The two men dissolved in each other's minds. Lucius recalled his father lying in a hospital bed with a breathing machine connected through a tube to his lungs, as well as all the tubes connected to his father's body to help him stay alive. Lucius had no idea how long he had to find his sister until her body finally succumbed to her illness.

Mike dissolved into his own thoughts about Rudolf Eliazar. He asked Erland Langton that the name Eliazar no longer be mentioned in the Langton Clan. A request that Erland immediately obeyed on condition that Mike forget his intention to leave the Langton Clan. The events of decades ago when he was very young but still imprinted in Mike's memory very clearly.

Rudolf Eliazar was Mike's father. Mike never wanted to acknowledge and say his name again. The name was off-limits to Mike and the entire Langton Clan. His father was the right-hand man of Erland's trust at the time. But greed and a thirst for power led Rudolf to betray and sell corporate secrets to Erland's enemies.

But as clever as Rudolf played, he was trapped and his betrayal discovered. Erland asked him to confess and make amends, however the Eliazar family was the one that had been together to build the Langton Clan from the very beginning. From the time of their great-grandfather.

"My father said the man who sold him the information died a few weeks later."

Lucius' voice penetrated Mike's consciousness. Bringing him back to the conversation with Lucius. Mike was not surprised, as he was there when Rudolf was killed.

"Yes. Eliazar was killed by snipers near his car after the man tried to shoot Erland."

Lucius widened his eyes at Mike's words.

"You know? You knew her?"

"She's dead, but I know someone who's been close to her. I'll go to him and get information."

Mike's answer made Lucius nod.

Reggie stood in a row with three other girls who came with him to the Sanchez Mansion. They are the new servants who will work in the mansion.

A woman who seemed to be given the responsibility of arranging the servants to inspect the neatness and cleanliness of the newly arrived girls.

"Your long hair is disturbing. Tomorrow you have to get it completely rolled up neatly, no one dangles out one bit!" He gave Reggie orders.

Reggie bowed respectfully.

"And you're a spotted girl! You're gonna work as a waitress not as a model! I don't want to see your long nails!"

"Ba-good Madam. I'll cut it off in a minute."

Reggie hid his smile. The spotted girl is Elina, she has a spot like a brownish speck on her nose. The short, friendly girl had become Reggie's friend in no time.

They are given directions about their new job and are invited around to recognize the places they should clean while working.

"Elina and Rose will be in charge on the second floor. Make sure all rooms on the floor are clean, neat and shiny. I don't want less than that!"

"Good madam." Reggie and Elina's compact answer made the madam nod in satisfaction.

Reggie changed his name to Rose. Makes her feel more secure and disguised. Two girls who come with them get a kitchen assignment, making sure the chef gets whatever help he needs.

"Now clean up your things. Liz will take you to your own room."

Madam's orders immediately got a nod from Liz, the servant girl who had been following them.

"Follow me!" The bossy tone of Liz's voice made Elina sneer. Reggie just smiled a little.

Elina and Rose were given the same room, with two small beds to the left and right of the room, a closet with two doors where Reggie and Elina put their things.

"I don't like that woman. He looks bad."

Elina's words made Reggie stop putting her clothes and personal objects into the closet.

"Who do you mean Elina?" Reggie looked at him asking.

"Si Liz's. From the beginning we came, the girl acted like she was the boss!" Elina grunts as she goes to Reggie who puts her things back in. He followed Reggie into the closet next to Reggie.

"I'm gonna cut my nails, I don't want to be scolded madam."

Reggie smiled and looked at the window above his bed. He looked out, staring. Remembering the figure of the big man with gray eyes who was always warm looking at him. Suddenly Reggie was feeling very sad.

I very ... very .. miss you very much.

He groaned slowly in his heart.
