Chaptre 45. Over to the past 2

Homer glanced at Mike who was looking at the sky. It is clear that Mike has not forgotten his past at the Eliazar Mansion, although he looks ordinary, as if he is no longer bothered by the name Rudolf Eliazar.

"Have you talked to Derek?" Homer tries to dive into Mike's current feelings towards that bitter past.

Mike shakes.

"No. He once asked about my past before he came to the Langton family, but .." Mike slicked his shoulder.

"You never want to talk about it."

"Yes. I think this is better."

Mike's answer made Homer stop asking questions. They fished in silence until Homer finally felt tired and wanted to sleep.

The old man tidied up his fishing gear and rolled out a sleeping bag on the side of the campfire.

Mike did the same. He took care of his fishing gear that didn't get any fish tonight. Then add firewood to the campfire he made. Mike glanced at Homer who was already lying comfortably in his sleeping bag and Mike held his own sleeping bag on the other side of the campfire before laying his body down comfortably.

"I don't want to interfere with your decision, Mike. You deserve to do what you think is right. It's just ... The Eliazar family was not just Rudolf. There are your great-grandfathers and great-grandfathers who are people with great merit and tested loyalty. The Eliazar family were supporters of the Langton Clan from the very beginning. Your great-grandfather gave his life for the Langton family's safety."

Mike turned his head and saw Homer looking at the night sky above. The old man looked back into the past.

"Rudolf made a terrible mistake by betraying Erland. But only he betrayed. Eliazar's other family had nothing to do."

"Stay, Uncle .. he's an Eliazar."

Homer silently heard Mike's tone of voice sounding bitter.

"Be at peace with your past, my son. Lift back the glory and the degree of the Eliazar family. One of the main families in the Langton clan."

Mike closed his eyes, then slowly lay on his back to Homer and the campfire.

The story of his father's betrayal revolves again in Mike's head. When Erland who had learned of Rudolf's betrayal came to the Eliazar Mansion.

Erland came up with a few bodyguards and cornered Rudolf with the evidence he had thrust out. It had gone on for a very long time and cost the Langton Clan many years. Rudolf even finished off a few people known to have started investigating about his work.

The noise in his father's study room made Mike want to look, then come to the room.

His eyes widened when he saw Erland's bodyguards coldly pointing a weapon at his cornered father.

Feeling clueless over the dispute Mike tries to beg Erland to talk and release his father.

"Come ... Mike." Erland ruled over him with her wise and shady voice. Mike shook his head and asked Erland to get the bodyguards out.

"My son .. please ...." Mike vividly remembered Erland's pleading voice. Erland loved Mike as much as her own son, they were close and her father was Erland's confidant, but the heat and killing in the room made Mike really clueless.

"Send them to leave. Erland!" rudolf shouted, he narrowed in a defiant manner.

"No. I'm giving you a chance to make up for it, given the services of the Eliazar family. So give up, Rudolf." Erland's voice was calm and resolute.

"Repens it with what? Confined in a dungeon with the******** that you sealed in there? Wait for bland food and a little water as a sign of your generosity every day in that dark and stuffy prison ... Hakh!. .. I'm an Eliazar! I'd rather die than be insulted you made a slave or be punished with the sign of a traitor you put on my forehead!"

"Uncle ... Dad ...." Mike turned his head towards Erland, then towards his father in a widened manner. Then without realizing what was happening, Mike was already in his father's arms. One arm of his father hugged him from behind, but what made Mike shocked was a gun directed by his father to Mike's temple.

With an angry shout the Erland guards prepared to pull the trigger from the weapon that had been pointed at Rudolf ever since. But Erland's raised right hand made them hold back.

Rudolf chuckled at Erland who looked at him furiously.

"You love this child like your own son. Now get them out!" Rudolf smiled defiantly, as if he was about to pull the trigger soon.

"City ... I-ihh ...." Mike was horrified. Can't believe his father made him a shield and threatened to shoot his own son. Mike glared at Erland who looked into his father's eyes.

"You think I'm kidding?" As the word ended, Rudolf moved his gun against Mike's thigh and shot straight away.

Mike spread wide, a sense of surprise and disbelief smeared his eyes. Erland retreated slowly with two hands raised in surrender. He looked over and ordered his guards to come out.

"Come out .. get out of here."

"But Mr ...." One of the guards objected. But Erland shook her head.

"He is my son ... Go!" With that one command all the bodyguards came out.

Blood flowed down the thigh and soaked Mike's trousers. He felt nothing at his feet. But in his heart, he felt an excruciating pain. Her father shoots her and Erland does whatever the man's orders are to protect Mike's life who isn't her real son. At that time Mike's tears unwittingly melted. Both of his hands held the arms of his father who held him tightly.

He looked into the eyes of Erland who harbored fear, fearing for Mike's life which was then a bet. That fear was also seen by Rudolf. He knew Erland would do anything to keep Mike from getting hurt.

"You can't get out of here" said Erland coldly.

"Of course you can. Michael will be my shield, and you must order your men aside!otherwise I'll pull this trigger one more time for his head!"

Mike's eyes widened, "Dad," he whispered hoarsely.

Erland looked at Mike with a pity face. He knew Mike was devastated to learn his father was doing such a shameful and so lowly thing.

"You know .. they're still going to shoot because I'm safe out of your reach. Some of my men are outside the mansion's door. They won't hesitate to shoot you or your son."

Erland's speech made Rudolf aware his shield was less powerful. He grinned and ordered Erland closer.

"Then you're the only one on which I shoot, Langton!"

Rudolf violently pushed Mike and ordered his son to tie Erland's hands behind his body firmly.

With a nod and a bracing smile, Erland let Mike tie his hands, then Rudolf kicked Erland's calf to step out. Along the way they were seen Rudolf's men and Erland's bodyguards brandishing guns. But seeing Erland who had been held captive with a gun on his back made Erland's bodyguards retreat.

Arriving near the waiting car, Erland looked back, glancing at Mike who was following with a limp not far from there.

A second later Erland tried to escape from Rudolf's hands. The move made Rudolf pull the trigger and shoot.

In slow motion Mike recalled as he shouted to see his father shoot Erland, but a second later the man also fell with his head pierced by a bullet. A sniper shot him in the head. The mansion was apparently surrounded. Erland only needed to lure Rudolf out as a last step if the man remained defiant.
