Episode 34: Olympics
The morning sunlight entered through the window glass in the room of the participants of the mathematical olympics. Cassie and I were in one building, but the place we competed was different. Before starting I took the time to learn to repeat the material first. Then I went outside to get some fresh air.
“Hah…
Cool...” I said while breathing a sigh of relief. “About what Cassie is doing
do it now, yes.” my inner curious.
I walked along the corridor. Mathematics, mathematics, and mathematics. That's what keeps haunting my mind. I accidentally bumped into someone from the other participants.
“Sorry.” I said slowly to him. “It's okay.” reply then see sign name of participant hanging on my neck.
“Mathematics?” ask him curious. “Iya.” answer.
“Adelard Lavient.” says spelling words while glaring at my sign. “You didn't use this?” ask him. “Oh yes, I left it in the room.” he replied. I became curious about his name. “Alright, for I have known your name now it's my turn.” he smiled.
“My name is Gav—”
“To all participants expected to go to the competition room.”
Suddenly the sound of an announcement rang out loud and cut off our conversation. Then we immediately parted with a curiosity that had not disappeared from my mind. During the competition I didn't see him in this room. It seems he is not a participant of this subject.
We spent a full day at the Olympics. One by one the participants began to be eliminated. Fortunately I still escaped until this moment. Sometimes I think about Cassie's current condition. I also hope we can get the best results.
The evening sky had revealed itself. The sun gradually disappears from vision. It was getting dark and we were finally done competing. The participants returned to the starting room to rest and improve before the Olympics closed with the announcement of the winner.
“Tiring day.” my blow tired. Shortly thereafter we were ordered to enter the hall.
“Third rank achieved by.. Chilansa Adeena from SMA Esthyria.”
“The second rank was achieved by. Cassie Elaina of SMA Snitheria.”.
I was surprised to hear it too. “Rank two?” I was confused not to believe. Last year Cassie was able to reach first place.
“Is all this because of me yesterday?” Then the reading continued.
“The first rank was achieved by.. Gavin Ryszard of SMA Rhyodena! Congratulations!”
I didn't notice I was still thinking about how Cassie felt after this. “Eh? Gav— Gav... Who?” racauku was confused and shocked after realizing it. I asked one of the contestants beside me. “Tadi whose first rank, yes?”
“Oh that, Gavin Ryszard.” replied. I started to realize it when the contestants came forward to take the award. It turned out that he was the one who met me this morning.
“People I met this morning got the first place?” I muttered not to believe.
After that the reading continued with the winners of the mathematical olympics. I got first place. Previously there were contestants from the same High School as Gavin in the second rank. The Olympics closed and we went back to school first. Cassie's gloomy face was disappointed. I tried to hug him and calm him.
“Sorry to disappoint you.” Cassie with her head resting on my chest. My clothes are wet with tears. “Nothing.” I said while stroking his head. My mind is still wondering with the figure of the person who got the first rank of mathematics earlier.
“Who is that guy? New first time I saw it.” my inner wonder.
