From a distance, a bright light radiated into the night sky. The Spring Mountains look like a Christmas tree twinkling on a hilltop. No. gabe. The building looks more like the prince's palace in the story of Cinderella. And, Kinara really felt like the lucky ash-wielding warrior because her prince was now by her side.
When the wedding was held, all the nobles from the upper class came and congratulated. At that time Alex was still in a wheelchair. Maybe people laughed at her husband at the time for having to marry one of his servants, but this time he was pretty sure everyone would sneer at him.
It is certain that not only one person thinks like a granny, that he agrees to marry Alex just for money. In fact, only God knows how much he loved that man long ago. Kinara's mind was getting tangled. She held the edge of her dress and held it firmly.
Alex who witnessed the change in Kinara's expression and mood immediately reached out to clasp her fingers.
“Calm down, everything will be fine,” Alex said to appease his wife.
This time Kinara did not shake Alex's hand. She let her husband channel the passion and optimism he so desperately needed right now.
“Pardon my attitude earlier, I was just upset because ... because Billy ...”
“It's okay, I understand,” Kinara said with a faint smile, “Indeed you are very annoying, but I'm used to it.”
Alex laughed without a sound. “I think you'll be silencing me all night,”.
“You're not ashamed?” ask Kinara suddenly. She stared straight at her husband's shady bead with eyes like a rabbit caught in a trap.
“Why should be ashamed?” alex replied, not understanding the meaning of his wife's question.
“I'm just a waiter. People must be laughing behind you,” replied Kinara. She bit her lips with anxiety and nervousness. Most likely, all eyes would be on her and Alex when entering the main hall later.
Alex grabs Kinara's hand and kisses her gently. Apparently that's what his wife thought until the look of his face looks like cloudy.
“Don't think about Jessica, or granny, or anyone other than me. Okay?”
“What if people start asking questions, or gossiping ... or—“
“Shhh .. rest easy, it's not going to happen. Stay by my side and everything will be fine. I promise.”
“Alright ...,” replied Kinara. The smile on his face looks bland. I don't know why this time I thought something was going to happen. Maybe because I knew Jessica would be there. Or because the granny who still can not accept himself as a son-in-law of the Smith family.
Kinara leaned back in the chair and took a deep breath. The closer he got, the more anxious and nervous he saw the number of vehicles lined up near the main gate. The Spring Mountains were lavishly decorated. Hundreds of bouquets of white roses, baby breath, daisy, and peonies lined the gates, lined up to the terraces and entrances. Men and women in expensive and classy clothes clutched with each other, walking hand in hand towards the entrance. Everything looks like a king and queen full of charm. Suddenly Kinara felt his appearance was not good enough to come to this place.
“Hey, relax .. I'm here,” Alex said as he rubbed the back of Kinara's hand very gently.
Kinara forced herself to smile. He did not even know what kind of event would take place later. What if someone suddenly asked him to come forward to say something? He really didn't want to embarrass Alex.
“If you are really uncomfortable, we can go back home to—“
“No. I'm fine, don't worry,” sela Kinara fast. It will only make things worse.
Come on, Nara. You definitely can. The spirit!
“Huh! Come on, I'm ready to fight,” he said again as he exhaled repeatedly quite loudly.
Alex chuckles softly. “That's new woman.”
Kinara's body had already begun to relax when the car stopped right in front of the stairs. A bodyguard opened the car door and bowed respectfully.
“Wait a minute,” Alex said before descending. He walked to the side to help Kinara get out of the car. The man wrapped his hands around Kinara's waist possessively then walked side by side towards the entrance.
Just as Kinara had guessed, everyone who was walking immediately stopped and stared at her and Alex. Some people whispered openly before him. The three old ladies near the entrance even pointed at him. His breathing suddenly tightened. He really felt scared. Not because people laughed at him, but because those people would probably laugh at Alex again. He really is not willing.
The deeper inside, the more people passed by. The sound of laughter and conversation suddenly stopped as Alex and Kinara entered the main hall. Kinara barely recognized the room anymore. Rose petals are scattered on the floor. Bouquets of flowers and expensive displays. Not to mention all the dishes and wine neatly arranged on the dish table.
Kinara pretended to touch her cheek while looking at Alex.
“Why not say that the show will be this fancy?” whispered slowly.
Alex smiled and tidied up Kinara's sticking out hair child. “I don't know either. We go straight home if you are not comfortable,” the promise.
Kinara smiled and nodded.
“Good,” answer.
“Not mind them, just look at me. Let's just say they are all clowns hired by granny to entertain us,” Alex said again with a very slow lip movement so that only Kinara can hear it.
Laughter almost gushed from Kinara's mouth. He did not reply anymore, afraid that his laughter would really explode. Her face focused forward and continued to follow her husband. Until finally when they were about to reach the seat, a soft and very melodious voice echoed quite loudly, defeating the other voices in the room.
Kinara turned her head very slowly, then found the owner of the voice sitting on the side of the granny. Jessica looks like a very pretty peacock. Her charm and beauty beat the blooming rosebuds and peonies. The evening dress that the woman wore wrapped her makeup body perfectly. Her makeup was truly professional, there were no flaws at all. Growing up in a family, surely the woman understood all the rules and manners. Granny really likes it.
Alex ignored Jessica's words so that the woman's face blushed in embarrassment. Instantly the humming and whispering in the room grew louder. Alex moved his hand from Kinara's waist, tied his wife's fingers tightly and led her to where Granny was sitting.
“Alex,” greet Brenda, “May you be happy for this welcoming event.”
“Actually there is no need to bother, but thank you,” replied Alex while looking down and kissing Brenda's cheek. He completely ignored Jessica who was pecking at his grandmother's side.
“Granny,” greet Kinara with a clumsy smile. He didn't know what to greet in. If he followed Alex and kissed the old woman on the cheek, he was afraid he would dodge or say hurtful things. So Kinara just lowered her head and stood beside Alex awkwardly.
Brenda looked at Kinara from head to toe many times before finally saying, “Sit.”
Alex pulls out a chair for Kinara, then helps hold her dress so as not to get stuck while sitting. The sighs and sighs of restrained breath sounded in the room, making Kinara even more convinced that his every move and Alex were being noticed by everyone. It made her body feel tense and stiff again.
“Dad and your mother were driving around to greet colleagues,” Brenda explained without being asked. He pretended not to see the affection that his grandson was displaying. “If you want to get around also—“
“No need. I'll just sit down,” Alex replied before her grandmother's speech was over. He did not want to make Kinara even more uncomfortable.
“Good. Since you've come, I'll start the show soon.”
Kinara simply smiled and sat quietly in her chair during all the welcome words and other things that she did not understand too much about. To him, as long as nothing bothered him with cheap questions or sharp innuendos that made the ears flushed, it was more than enough.
“You want to drink? I'll get you,” bargain Alex when he sees his wife sitting restlessly.
Kinara nodded quickly. He needed something to distract him.
“Thank you,” he said when Alex got up from the chair.
“My pleasure."
Alex smiled and rubbed his wife's shoulders before going to fetch a drink for his wife.
Kinara circulated a glance, everyone had started to behave normally. Only one or two people were left staring at him clandestinely while occasionally pointing. Not knowing what they were talking about, Kinara did not want to know. After observing enough, he realized that there were only about six officially dressed bodyguards standing at some point. Lorie and Billy are nowhere to be seen. Looks like Alex had Lorie standing guard outside, while Billy ..maybe the man was still upset about the incident at home so he didn't show her nose.
Had Billy or Lorie been here, this would have been a little more fun.
“Hallo, Sweetie. Where is Alex?”
Kinara almost jumped when she heard the greeting. He looked up and found that Alex's parents were already standing in front of him.
“Mom, Dad,” greet Kinara as she wakes up and hugs Beatrice Smith and greets Jonathan, “Alex is taking a drink.”
“Sit,” says Beatrice. He sat down next to Kinara. “Sorry just came to greet you. There are so many acquaintances that we have to meet.”
“It's okay, Mom. I see,” Kinara replied with a sweet smile, “Sorry also did not directly look for you, Alex forbid me to go anywhere.”
Beatrice chuckles softly. “I'm glad to see you two progressing like this. This makes me even more impatient to be able to immediately fondle the cute grandchildren.”
Kinara's face immediately flushed upon hearing those overly outspoken words. He doesn't know what to answer.
"It's a shame,” Jonathan said to his wife, “You scared our daughter-in-law,” he continued with a laugh, making Kinara do not understand whether his father-in-law was defending him or even sednag join teasing him.
Where is Alex? Why so long?
Kinara stole a glance towards her husband leaving earlier. If he only took a drink, shouldn't he be back by now? He turned to where Granny was having a conversation with a couple who seemed to be the mayor and his wife. There was no Jessica there, but she usually stuck around the granny like an irritating caterpillar.
“You want to catch up with Alex?” beatrice asked, as if she could understand the uneasiness of her daughter-in-law.
“Um, yes ... if Mom doesn't mind ...”
“Go. Your father and I will wait here.”
“Thank you.”
Kinara got up and walked in the direction her husband left earlier. Her feeling is really bad. He ignored all the shame and fear of the scorn of those around him and continued to tread steadily. She was determined not to stop before she found her husband.
