“I have plenty of time to listen to your story,” Doctor Ana said. He took a chair and pulled her close to the bed, then sat down in an attitude as if to listen to a bedtime story.
“Don't I have to rest?” Lorie tried to dodge.
He lay down and pulled out a blanket to cover his body, hoping that Doctor Ana would leave him immediately and not pry information on Raymond Dawson again. He lay quietly and waited until the sound of a closed door could be heard, then opened a little gap to peek.
A pair of round eyes that were staring at him with interest made Lorie almost scream in surprise.
“What do you do with a glare like that?” he shouted while rubbing his chest that beat fast.
“Watching you to sleep,” replied Doctor Ana while crossing her arms and raising her eyebrows. “But it seems like you are not too tired.”
Lorie took the pillow and threw it towards Doctor Ana, but the woman twitched easily and returned the pillow to its original place.
“You are very annoying,” grumbled Lorie annoyed.
“Oh, I'm sure Billy can be more annoying.”
Lorie let out a sigh and scowled her temple. He got up and leaned against the head of the cot, looking for a comfortable position before undergoing a question and answer session with the stubborn woman before him.
“How did you guys meet?” ask Dr. Ana. He really felt curious.
Seven years of knowing Lorie, not once did the woman look close or in a relationship with someone. He also never told who he was close to, or whether he was harboring a taste for the opposite sex. Then, suddenly now his feelings for Raymond Dawson were exposed by accident. Of course he was very curious.
“It started seven years ago.” Lorie started telling stories.
“Seven years ago?”
“Yes. We were not too close at the time. You're busy treating Mr. Alex and I'm busy looking after Kinara ..”
“Oh.”
“She is Kinara's senior sister. That year, he saved Kinara from an accident that somehow happened. At first I thought he was like Benji, one of Jericho's men, but apparently he was the mayor's son. Then when Mr. Alex got into a fight with Kinara, he put Kinara in a lakeside cabin.”
Lorie's gaze glared, as if she was traveling through time .. return to the past as if it had just happened yesterday afternoon.
“She's so cute, you know?” he added while looking at Doctor Ana who only responded by covering her face and shook her head slowly.
Lorie chuckled at her best friend's behavior and continued, “She didn't take advantage of the situation to separate Kinara and Mr. Alex. Even if he wanted to, he could have used a cunning trick that could have made them part. As long as Mr. Alex was watching the two of them from afar, I could see the sincerity and honesty within him. She liked Kinara with a pure feeling, not trying to tease her or sneak into her room quietly. The gentle attitude is rarely owned by a man.”
“Then you fell in love with him?”
“Oh, gosh .. I guess you never thought of getting married.”
“Hey, I am still a woman who wants a husband to lean on and sweet children to accompany me. What do you mean by saying like that?” Lorie pretended to glare and scold her best friend.
Doctor Ana lifted both her hands into the air and replied, “Don't mean anything. Merely, I myself would never .. or rather would not allow myself to fall in love with any man. Love is an absurd concept, you know? Just a stimulus from the hormone that gives the brain illusion so you ‘feel’ is in love, though it is only a form of legalization so that your conscience can accept when you are already gone and unite with a partner who ‘you love’ it to produce offspring ..”.
“Tapi—“
“Oh, to meet the biological needs as well of course, but it is a different case. Someone could have sex with someone else without ‘love’, and I belong to that category. After all, I prefer 'love’ with a computer or biochemical weapon rather than having to give up the rest of my life to serve strangers just because of the influence of hormones that make my brain become chaotic.”
“Hey, why do you make the description of love sound a little disgusting?” lorie protest.
“It's realistic, Sweetheart. Do you want to exchange body fluids with someone who ‘you don't love’? You want to give birth to a child for her without any emotional attachment?”
Lorie fell silent and thought for quite a while. To be honest, Ana's nonsensical explanation of love sounds pretty reasonable. The proof, though he admitted that he was attracted to Raymond, was that he could not accept it when the man slept with him drunk. He wants emotional attachment, not just the union of the body to meet biological needs.
“Um ... you are correct .. it is quite logical. So you think I don't need to fall in love with him?”
“It's up to you. If you think she's so cute and wants to fuck her, go ahead. That's none of my business.”
“Then why did you poison my mind with that absurd idealism?”
Doctor Ana laughed and got up from her seat.
“Sleep. Alex would scold me if he knew I was arguing with you, instead of taking good care of you,”.
“Hey! Back!”
“See you later in the afternoon, Lorie.”
“Basic is not responsible!” lorie grumbled after Doctor Ana disappeared behind the door.
He pulled out the blanket and lay with his eyes wide open.
Should he stop the effect of the damn hormones from making his brain more chaotic and keep thinking about Raymond Dawson?
