Alex Smith and Billy arrive half an hour later after being informed by Raymond. Alex only wears plain black T-shirts and satin pants that somehow still make him look regal and dignified. While Billy wears a pajama suit with a picture of a strawberry, but Raymond really did not have interest in laughing.
“How is it?” alex and Billy asked almost simultaneously.
“Dia ... like not recognizing me earlier,” replied Raymond slowly. He looked at the two worried-looking men before him and added, “Doctor Ana is still inside. May—“
Chequek.
The sound of the door opening automatically stopped Raymond's sentence. The three men turned their heads in unison towards Doctor Ana who appeared from behind the door.
“Oh, it's great that you guys have gathered here,” said the woman while rubbing her hands together.
From that appearance, Raymond could already guess that there would be bad news. He stepped forward and asked the woman's doctor.
“How is he doing? Is there a possibility of amnesia?”
“Ah .. yes ... I almost forgot that you are a doctor, Mr. Dawson.” Ana looked at the shabby-looking man with a not-so-good expression.
“That is indeed dissociative amnesia,” he added before exhaling helplessly.
“Amnesia what?” ask Billy.
“Dissociative amnesia. This condition refers to a loss of memory of a particular event or event that cannot be explained by ordinary memory loss conditions such as forgetting where to put car keys or glasses. This can happen when a person's subconscious wants to block certain information, usually events related to trauma or stress, or because of a severe head injury. In the case of Lorie, this is a blend of the two,” explains Doctor Ana with the simplest language possible.
“Can it be cured?” ask Alex.
“With some therapy, it should be able to.”
“Then what about his physical condition?” tympan Raymond.
“Pretty good, no significant enough constraints. Maybe there will only be side effects from concussion such as nausea and vomiting, more sensitive to light and noise, also sleep disorders and depression.”
“That sounds bad,” grumbled Billy. “What's good enough?”
“Oh, it refers to bone density and recovery rate of internal organ injury, Mr. Billy. The healing process is quite good.”
“Can we see him now?” alex and Raymond asked almost simultaneously.
“It's okay, I just want to meet him,” Billy said as he walked in. Alex and Raymond followed behind him.
“Lorie, do you recognize me?” asked Billy expectantly.
Although Alex did not say a word, but it was clear from his face that he also felt curious about Lorie's response. Meanwhile, Raymond made no sound at all. He knew he could guess that the woman half-lying on the bed did not recognize him earlier.
After observing Alex and Billy's faces alternately, Lorie's forehead frowned deeply, making the fine strokes on her forehead look like folds of a dike on a hillside.
The woman shook her head softly as she replied, “No.”
Billy gasp. As for Alex, despite still standing quietly, but there was a hint of shock in the look in his eyes.
“You are?” Lorie asked back.
“I'm Billy, he's Alex, we're your family. And that one is Raymond Dawson, your friend.”
The clear boundary created by Billy makes Raymond want to argue, but a moment later he realizes that the man's statement is entirely true. He was just a friend of Lorie, nothing more. It would seem awkward and strange if he were to refute that remark right now. Therefore, he could only put on a stiff smile as Lorie stared at him.
“I don't know.”
Those three syllables sounded cold and cruel. Suddenly Raymond really wanted to say that they were not just ordinary friends. They had slept together, even once, and he had been looking after the woman for 15 days. It was not a short time to ....
Ah, forget.
In the end Raymond could only sigh and reply, “It's okay not to remember. It's getting late. Rest up. Maybe your memory will be better tomorrow.”
“It's true! Quick sleep. Alex and I will be back tomorrow.” Billy said Raymond.
He reached out carefully to hug Lorie, then walked out of the room. Alex followed shortly thereafter, leaving Raymond alone still in his place.
In fact, God alone is how many words he wants to say. But in the end, he couldn't say it at all.
“Lorie ... I'll be back tomorrow,” the man said before turning around and leaving.
Ana helps Lorie lie down and injects a painkiller, then pulls the blanket up to the woman's waist. Their gazes met in the air and locked each other for a few seconds.
Lorie first blinked and averted her gaze as she muttered, “Thank you, Doctor.”
“Istirhatlah,” order Your Doctor while turning off the main light.
He signaled to three of his nurses to come out with him, while one stayed behind to keep watch.
After everyone left, there was only a long silence left in the room. Lorie took a slow breath and tried to close her eyes.
Everything will be fine ....
