The sounds of screams, faint conversations, and gun eruptions overlap, followed by ground tremors that occur due to missile explosions. Lorie scanned her surroundings nervously. Although he had tried his hardest, he could not see where all the noise was coming from. The dense darkness made him breathless.
The thick rancid aroma accompanied by a sticky feeling that flooded his body made him even more panicked. His breathing roar was hunting like a locomotive engine that snapped repeatedly, forcing his heart to work to its full potential.
“Lorie.”
Raymond patted Lorie's arm slowly when he saw Lorie's heartbeat on the monitor screen increase drastically. The woman's forehead was filled with sweat that slid one-on-one through the temples and disappeared between strands of hair that were squeezing on the pillow.
“Lorie! Hey ...” Raymond wiped the sweat on Lorie's face and patted her on the cheek several times.
Lorie jerked up with a breath of breath. Unknowingly his hand gripped tightly onto Raymond's arm that was nearby. He blinked and looked around like a lost person, losing the orientation of space and time.
“Hey, do not be afraid .. you are safe, do not be afraid ..” persuade Raymond while gently rubbing the back of the woman's hand. He did not complain at all even though Lorie's nails stuck tightly on the surface of his skin to cause reddish strokes and deep indentations.
Slowly, Lorie's heartbeat and breathing rhythm stabilized. He let go of the check and leaned against the head of the cot. The nightmare haunted him every time he closed his eyes, and it began to erode his common sense. Sometimes he cannot tell the difference between reality and the flower of sleep.
“Minum.” Raymond thrust a glass of cold water towards the woman.
Lorie opened her eyes and stared intently at the man who never got tired of coming even though he had already chased her away repeatedly.
“What are you doing here so early?” ask him in a hostile tone.
“Check at you,” Raymond replied casually, as if not affected at all by Lorie's apathetic attitude. He pushed the glass closer to Lorie's lips.
“Minum. This will help make you feel better,”.
Lorie put on an annoyed face and took the glass, then drank the contents to the end.
“Good,” said Raymond as he took the glass back and put it on the table.
“Why are you still here?” lorie asked when she saw Raymond standing on the side of her bed. “How many times have I told you to leave?”
“I told you already, visit you.”
Lorie rolled her eyeballs and sneered. He really couldn't stand it.
“There are many nurses and doctors here. This attitude of yours makes me suspicious, do you want to take advantage of me when I don't remember anything? I even doubt if I have an annoying friend like you,” grunts.
Instead of being angry at the accusation, Raymond smiled at the woman before him. This was the first time Lorie had said such a long sentence since she regained consciousness. And that's a good sign.
The man pulled the chair to get closer to the bed, then sat quietly.
“If I want to take advantage, I've done it when you haven't realized,” reply.
“I don't want to talk to you. Go,” said Lorie.
Lorie looked at the ceiling and did not care about the man.
“Lorie, maybe you don't remember, but I'm sorry .. I ...."
Drrrt .. drrrt .. drrrt ....
The sound of the vibration of the phone brought Raymond's speech to a halt. He reached out from his pocket and took out the object, stunned for a few seconds before touching the green circle that was moving up and down on the screen.
“Alice,” sweep.
“Halo, Darling. I was in the hospital to see Lorie. Is he conscious?”
“Ya.”
“How good! I brought her breakfast. Wait, yeah. I'm coming soon.”
The call was interrupted before Raymond could reply. He looked at Lorie awkwardly and rubbed his face to cover up any helpless expression that might be seen. Lately Alice is getting better and more creative, making her feel more guilty to her fiance, as well as to Lorie.
“Your love is coming again?” ask Lorie.
“Hum. Dia—“
“Raymond! Lorie!”
The two men simultaneously turned their heads towards the brunette girl who entered excitedly while carrying two parcels in her hands.
“See what I brought for you guys!” again with bright eyes. “You sure haven't had breakfast, ‘kan? This is the most delicious omelette and bacon I've found. You guys should try it.”
The girl placed her luggage on the table and opened it. In an instant the scent of eggs and bacon filled the air within the room.
Raymond got up and walked up to his girlfriend while saying, “Thank you, honey. I'm a little hungry.”
Alice smiled widely and groped in Raymond's arm, then without warning she tiptoed and landed a kiss on the man's lips.
“I miss very much,” muttered slowly, then hurriedly glanced towards Lorie shyly.
“Sorry, I forgot there is Lorie here,” she whispered again with a pink blushing face.
Raymond smiled faintly and rubbed Alice's face. He did not dare to look back.
