Jose was still glued to his place. He stood beside Run, clutching the bridle. His horse was deploying its front legs without any control, difficult to calm down. The beast's danger-sign instincts frightened him. Run's restless voice was just like the sound of a horse that Jose always heard at night. Now Jose knew that the horses in the stables were indeed rowdy because of seeing this anomaly. This horror.
Five meters away from them, a woman dragged her feet out of the shrub. A foul scent emanated from his direction, missing from being blown away by the mountain wind.
Jose's still riveted. He blinked his eyes several times to be sure. That was Gladys. It's not wrong. Jose saw the girl's photo on the report Krip gave.
Gladys in the photo has brown curly hair on his back. His cheekbones are sharp and his eyes are small. But the girl who approached Jose was now different. This girl in front of him had a greenish-gray skin. Next to his cheeks bulging puffiness, covering the eyes until narrowed. His jaw opened, and his teeth were in disarray.
Even so, Jose still recognized him as Gladys. Even his clothes were exactly the same as the ones he had seen in the Bjork forest.
"God is Good" murmured Jose. His hand was still tightly gripping Run's bridle rope, preventing the beast from leaving. He did not want to be alone with the undead.
Gladys, the dead woman he found across the river south of Bjork, approached Jose with a step. The woman's head was tilted to the left side, her neck like it was not strong to support the weight of the head. Half his face was covered in dusty matted hair.
"Hello, Gladys," whispered Jose slowly, unsure of how to communicate with the person who should have been dead. That girl is dead, right? He's not too sure now. "Are you okay? Is there anything I can help you with? What...your head hurts?"
Gladys replied with a sort of snoring. His eyes opened and twitched, but his gaze was blank. A foul smell floated in the air due to the wind.
Jose tried to calm himself down. If the paramedics and the police are wrong and Gladys is alive, the girl needs help. If not, he needs help.
"Your name is Gladys, right?" ask Jose, make sure. He forgot the girl's last name. "The waiter at Sir William Bannet's house?"
Gladys took a step forward, staggered. From between her legs covered in a skirt, a large red blob fell in a plop sound onto the grass. The smell stings from there.
Jose squeaks. It was clear that the one in front of him was indeed dead.
Jose changed his priorities. Now the important thing is that he has to get out of here.
Jose shifted slowly to the left, dragging and running. Maybe the body just wants to pass. He did not mind giving way to women, especially those who looked strange and dangerous like this.
Gladys did not want to pass. He lifted his face up, sniffed, then turned to follow Jose dodging.
"Oh, O God, for all that is holy in the world" Jose murmured in horror. Neck goosebumps. He's never seen anything this weird. "The gladys? Are you Gladys or not? Gladys Lord Bannet's servant? Huh hello? You're not dead, are you? Is this some kind of joke?"
Run who answers in a snapshot. Gladys walked closer one step further. He looks shaky, but also strong. Both of his hands moved in the air.
Jose swore, cursing his shaky-thumbly questions. He stroked Run's mane, trying to remain visible as a brave master. If his horse starts to lose faith in him, Jose won't be able to return home before dark. The walk from this place to his house will take two hours.
But he didn't dare to climb Run now, fearing that Gladys jumped and ambushed him while he was off guard. Can he run? Will he attack? Chief Jose was filled with such questions.
After remaining silent for a long time and seeing that Gladys was motionless, Jose concluded that Gladys was indeed unable to move quickly. He looked at Run to climb it. Huge mistake.
The girl stinks. The skin is cold and soft, looking like it can come off easily if pulled hard enough. And his eyes ...
Jose used all his mental strength to lift his leg and kick Gladys into a bounce away. The girl got up slowly and unnaturally. If people usually looked for a pedestal to be able to get up, Gladys got up by pulling his body as if he was being pulled by a thread from above.
Run approached Jose obediently without being called.
A cold wind gushed past them, making Gladys' body stagger. The opportunity was used by Jose to jump and ride the Run, pull the bridle and make the horse approach Gladys and turn around, kicking Gladys hard.
Jose put his teeth together. Even though Run was kicking, it still felt like he was hitting the woman directly. The sound of a 'thud' followed by a broken bone is heard filling the silence of the cliff.
Jose let Run roar while his heart beat very fast. He did not immediately run away but observed the lying body for a few moments.
Though he sure heard the sound of broken bones, and the kick just now should be able to make someone vomit blood. But Gladys looks stronger than he looks. The body slowly stood up. His head drooped backward and his left arm dangled down. Shoulder dislocation. With such a crumpled body, Gladys dragged her steps closer.
Jose wanted to scream in horror, but he just whispered softly, "What are you really, anyway?"
The woman clenched her mouth like a fish.
Jose controlled Run backwards while paying attention to the location of the cliff and taking into account the arrival of Gladys.
The body staggered. And jump.
Really jumping, out of nowhere.
Jose was shocked, not expecting that. He swiped his feet on Run's body, making his horse roar aside, dodging. Gladys did not hit it, but instead jumped into the abyss behind Jose.
Gladys made a loud whining sound in the air, like a disappointed monster. His eyes looked into Jose's eyes as he floated down.
Jose just stared in horror. His eyes followed Gladys's tinkling motion which was affected by the force of physics, passing through him, the corpse being strongly ejected by gravity. Free fall from the cliff.
For a few minutes there was silence.
Run was still grumbling in horror for a while, but then regained his composure and snorted. Jose himself could only stroke the mane of his horse and whisper soothing words. The real words he spoke for himself.
His heart is still beating very fast. His whole body was shaking. His hands were weak and his head was empty. He thought nothing for a moment, only staring at the abyss with wide eyes.
