“Yeah, but actually quite dilemmatic,” Maria said, starting to be happy because Jose responded to his remarks. “Finally, if there is no news like this, people can still continue to hope. There's a chance that the guy's still alive, right? If he dies, his body will be found.”
Jose looked at Maria very seriously, straight straight into his eyes. Maria turned her eyes away, though she was eager to catch Jose's crown and asked what the young man was thinking.
“You're right, Mary,” said Jose slowly. His eyes changed. “They so hope.”
“Isn't that good?” Rolan replied, still with a friendly smile on his lips. “Hope makes someone alive! By thinking that their family is still alive, they can still live the day with a smile, optimistically.”
“That's the name of false hope,” sergeant Jose. “When they know the truth, their hearts can be broken and can no longer be treated!”
“Yang actually?” Maria frowned in surprise. “What do you mean? What is it really? You know something?”
“What? Know about what?” Jose asked back. His facial skin suddenly looked paler, but his eyes were flat.
“You said, when they know the truth, people will be destroyed. What do you mean?” Maria repeated.
Marco cleared his throat slowly, drawing the attention of the people towards him. His hands were interlocked, the fingertips touching each other to form a triangular mountain. “Jose thinks the missing people are dead because there is no news. He thought by not immediately announcing it, could make people so disappointed in the end.”
Jose smiled stiffly. “Honesty always means more!” he said a little loud.
“No, Jose. Well, then, his name is not honesty. That's a ngawur conclusion!” Maria said astonished, beginning to suspect that the unpleasant atmosphere must be due to the debate about the fate of the missing people. “As long as there is no evidence that states one hundred percent against a claim, it is best that the claim should not be made. We don't know the fate of those missing. Who knows we will find them somewhere, healthy and safe ..” But even when she said that, Mary could hear her own voice not sound convincing.
Healthy and safe? Can't that be proven, too?
Had Maria not thought that Jose might be ill or mind-blowing, she would have shaken the collar of the man. Even though Marco still disliked Maria, the man still kept his manners by still inviting her to talk about things that were common during the lunch. Rolan dominated the conversation by continuing to tell stories, ask questions, and throw jokes. Meanwhile, Jose himself was like a dead man. He ate in silence, only occasionally speaking when asked.
“Looks like you're sick, Jose! Quickly healed, yes!” maria said before slamming Jose's car door as the man drove her home.
Jose just nodded briefly, then drove his car away from the grounds of the Garnet family home. The shoes Maria wore were very expensive, leading her to stop taking one of them and throwing it at Jose's car.
“Actually he's why, anyway?!” he snapped in annoyance, no longer able to hold back the emotions entrenched in the heart. It felt like he wanted to stomp his feet and explode on the spot. “Actually lunch was for what, anyway?!”
“Why, Miss?”
Mary did not have to look to find out who was reprimanding her. He knows that voice very well. It was the voice of Susan, her personal lady-in-waiting.
“It's okay! I'm not going anywhere today, cancel all my promises!” said it.
Maria shook her head. His mood is not good today. He prefers shopping, reading, or taking a shower to keep his mind calm.
“Oh, yes, there are guests for Miss. Lady Lidya of the Jewel.” family Susan said as she accompanied Mary's step into the house.
Maria nodded in wonder. “Since when? Been a while?”
“No, just fifteen minutes ago. As per Miss yesterday's order, Lady Lidya we welcome waiting in guest room.”
“Good,” Maria nodded. She gave Susan the bag she was carrying while her feet lightly stepped up the stairs to the room. The sound of the knocking of the shoes rhymed over the cold marble floor, making him recall the sound of the pawns walking on the chessboard.
The room consists of two layers of space. When opening the door, what appears first is a wide room containing a piano, bookshelf, and a set of seats. Usually Mary invites her friends in and waits there if she is not finished. The room itself is in the deeper layers, always locked tightly if he is not at home.
As Susan said, Lidya was already in the front room. Women from the Jewel family are small, but Lidya is the most petite. She was only one hundred and fifty-five centimeters tall, fifteen centimeters shorter than Mary. Lidya's face is round with two fatty cheeks that always blush when she is happy. But this time Lidya was unhappy. His cheeks don't blush. His thin eyebrows swooped down with a sad touch. His round brown eyeballs look wet. When she saw Mary coming, she immediately got up and embraced her as a greeting.
“How? Any latest news?” maria asked as she kissed the greeting on Lidya's cheeks. “What police already move?”
“No news yet, but the police did finally want to move.” Lidya sighed softly.
Mary gave thanks, which was answered with a similar welcome.
“Your servant said, you finished your lunch at the Argent family home,” Lidya continued with a sweet smile.
Maria hopes her servant does not have a big mouth, or tomorrow there will be news that she and Jose will indeed get married. He nodded and straightened quickly, “You know, Argent and Garnet have been friends for a long time. His family member who became a doctor, Dr. Rolan, I used to play with him as a child. We just had a little reunion.”
“Yes, you guys do look familiar. Some people even think you're engaged.”
Maria rolled her eyes. “Do you think so too, Lidya?”
The girl just smiled a small smile. Despite not saying anything, the look in her eyes was enough to tell Maria that Lidya was thinking the same as everyone else.
“Absolutely you guys aren't engaged?”
That innocent question made Maria sigh. “Of course not! We're just friends. People don't seem to believe that a woman and a man can have a relationship that is nothing more than a mere friendship. We were friends since childhood. I've taken it like a sister.”
“Adik?” reply Lidya wonder. “Typically a male best friend will look like a big brother, right?”
